This place is so special - a beautiful building run by wonderful women who were so friendly and welcoming. They even shared some homemade umeshu with us which was so kind. I had a big room to myself and even though the sound carries through the building, everyone was quiet and respectful so I slept very well. I would love to come back.

Most important, it is in the center of town with a drugstore across the street and dining less than five minutes away! Also, the owner made us feel very welcome. We will definitely stay here again.

They also have a nice cafe there. When I arrived, during check in, their children were there doing their homework in the cafe. Thus, it made me feel at home, and being glad that what I paid would be going to directly support a family, and not shareholders of a large hotel chain. The hostel is very clean, and I could have the privacy I needed with their setup of private rooms, yet benefiting from the hostel atmosphere experience. Very comfortable single bed, better than some hotels I stayed here in Japan. Laundry was free and they provided detergent. They recommended a very good izakaya in the vicinity. Finally, their garage provided a safe place to store my bicycle.

As i have said in my google review, i think this is the best homestay you can find in Yakushima. This is my second time staying with Taguchi and Hitomi san and as the 1st time, they are so nice and accommodating. They gave great suggestions ** i walked and climbed some difficult trails and it took me a total of 14hrs in2 days ** my legs ohh...hahha...and they also offered to pick you or send you to the port for your trip. They did their outmost best to make you feel at home which I said it did make me feel very welcome ^^ Clean and cosy...the room is big and the house is well designed.
