Jazz and his family are great hosts, their hospitality is unmatched. One evening, Jazz invited all guests to a free dinner at the homestay with typical Sri Lankan food, deliciously cooked by his wife. Afterwards, we played cards and had a good time together. Whatever we asked for- he could help: He arranged surf lessons, a safari through Kumana national park, laundry service, taxi, and even had great recommendations for restaurants close by. We can highly recommend the Tropicana homestay to everyone who wants to have a good time in Arugambay and connect with local and international people. Rooms were also clean and comfortable.

Beautifully decorated hotel, with one of the most gorgeous bathrooms I have ever seen. Comfortable bed. Very nice staff and boat safari. Good breakfast and dinner. Peaceful and secluded, with all the amenities necessary. Nice pool overlooking the lake + smaller pool.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Whisky Point Resort, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone!! A special shoutout to Mufaris and Murthala for their outstanding and precise service—they went above and beyond to make our experience unforgettable. The highlight of our stay was the incredible food and drinks. The iced tea was the best we’ve ever tasted, and the pizza was absolutely divine! Every bite and sip transported us to a place of pure bliss. Whisky Point Resort truly feels like a little paradise nestled within an already paradise-like island. The serene ambiance, combined with the warmth and hospitality of the staff, makes this a must-visit destination. Thank you for such an unforgettable experience. We’ll be back for sure!

The rooms are little shacks by the beach which gives a charming vibe to the hotel as a whole. The inside is not very modern but is clean, with comfortable beds and AC. The staff is very caring, friendly and helpful. The food there is delicious and comes with a nice view. Lastly the hotel provides all kind of services to lift you stay such as laundry services, tuktuk services (if you need to go to arugam bay) or connexions to book surf lessons or a safari tour.

Wonderful property and host! Iqbal and his staff were so warm and welcoming! They went above and beyond making sure I felt comfortable and enjoyed my stay! I was welcomed with delicious pineapple juice and a pastry. I ended extending my stay because it was such a warm and cozy place to spend a few days at the beach. Beach access is a few meters away. Iqbal also arranged surf lessons to peanut farm and I couldn’t recommend them enough! Best surf coach I’ve ever had! The room was very clean and spacious with hangers for wet clothes and storage. The hammocks outside each room are a very nice touch and relaxing. Each morning, the breakfast was very good and tasty! Lots of fresh fruit! Whatever you need, Iqbal and his team will take care of. Had a lot of nice chats with Iqbal. He will be missed! Wish I could stay for longer. Will definitely be back to this cozy piece of paradise.

A family of five. We had the most wonderful time at Stay Golden. Angie and Rihan, the charming couple who owns the place, have created a small microcosmos with everything we needed. Other than going out to surf, we barely left the complex. Rihan gave the kids surfing lessons and pointed the more experienced surfers of our bunch to the right surfing spots. Thank you!

Charitha Rest ligger i Ampara och erbjuder boende med trädgård, gemensam lounge och terrass samt gratis WiFi. Charitha and his family were great hosts and extremely attentive to all our needs (ready to go above and beyond). The food was delicious, the room was large and clean with an air conditioning that worked almost too well, there is a seating area in the garden from which you can hear birds and witness monkeys walking along the electrical wires. The property is walking distance (30 min) from Owagiriya Natabun Viharaya (Buddhist temple ruins) and as we were on our way Charitha kindly gave us a lift, as well as to another destination later during our stay. Both the father and mother are absolute sweethearts, and are more than happy to sit down with you for a chat (I had a little well needed Sinhalese crash course). From what I can see they are building more rooms/bungalows and a restaurant in the back, but as of February 2025 it truly had that quaint local feel I look for when I travel.
