A unique and very beautiful place to stay. It's a Buddhist meditation centre but not exclusive to that purpose. I have booked the place just to sleep and it was more than that. It was a relaxing experience in the beautiful mountains around it. The people were unbelievably helpful, kind and friendly. The room was super clean and nice. Despite being June it wasn't hot inside thanks to the cooling system. Breakfast was included in the price and also the meditation. I suggest it to everyone. Even if you are just visiting and looking for a stay near Madrid. Amazing!+++

We stayed in one side of the house and it felt very homely, very tranquil and very relaxing. There are many things that add to the homeliness - a stove, an old sewing machine, a very large chest. Even when it was hot outside (32 degrees or so), it was cool inside our place. This made it great for sleeping. The neighbourhood is quiet. The bathroom is very clean and the shower is strong. We cooked a steak one day and we had pretty much everything we needed to fry one up on the barbeque (perhaps one or two sharp knives might me nice). Overall, really great place and we enjoyed our time in Mataelpino very much. Conchita was our host and was extremely friendly and helpful. She even picked up up from a neighbouring town where we bought some groceries and a few days later brought us to another town, so we could visit a castle we wanted to go to. Conchita and her son Macro were very warm, friendly and always ready to help with something. Would highly recommend La Puerta Verde to anyone who wants a tranquil break in the mountains. One note, Mataelpino is very small, which is it's charm, so you will have to stock up on a few groceries in another town. Conchita was very accommodating in facilitating this for us. There are, however, 4/5 restaurants to choose from. In sum, great place and great host in a charming and tranquil town in the mountains.
