We stayed there before and after a 4 day jungle trek during the low/wet season. The bungalow was located on the river, right at the edge of the jungle. There are frequently macaque and Thomas's leaf monkeys in the trees and jumping on the roof. You can leave non-food items on the patio (like clothes drying after the jungle), but the host advised us to keep the door locked when we aren't around to keep them from coming in. We specifically chose somewhere without AC to acclimatize to the temperature and humidity, but ventilation inside was good. Porters met us at our taxi to carry the luggage through the village and across the bridge, which was appreciated.

Best place to stay in Bukit Lawang!! Beautiful location right on the river, surrounded by nature and beautiful views, a retreat from the busy-ness of town. It is only a short motorbike ride into town, and you can walk ~10 mins to get to an alfamart/indomaret. I did 2 days jungle trekking with Andi who was a great guide. We saw lots of orangutans and other wildlife, and he shared a lot of great information about the jungle. I went with a group and he was very attentive with the guests and everyone's different needs and comfort levels with the hiking. Dika, Dedek, and the rest of the family were so friendly and happy to answer any questions or help with anything, and make an amazing breakfast which is included. Andi arranged a car to and from the airport. Wifi was functional most of the time, which was helpful because I spent a lot of time working remotely in the restaurant. Bed in my room was very firm and comfortable, which is important to note because some different guesthouses where I've stayed have had very squishy, sinking beds. Bathroom has good showerhead water pressure, a western style toilet, and bidet. They provide toilet paper if needed. Towels also provided. Screens on windows prevent mosquitos from getting inside, and there is a fan inside the room for when it gets hot. Overall, a beautiful place to stay and a family business that makes you feel like family. Highly recommend!

The beautiful clear water of the Toba had been tempting me from the day before and it was the first thing I did on the morning of my birthday. You can practically jump into the water from your room balcony (please don't. It's metamorphic and you'll die). But it was as stunning a view one can get, and the fact that this is so affordable makes it feel like a dream. Food was fantastic. I was traveling with my sister and she's vegetarian and so was the restaurant. Great dishes. Location top notch. You obviously need a scooter to get around and completely immerse yourself in the serene and breathtaking views of Toba. So yes, definitely get a scooter. Definitely stay here. And definitely eat at Jenny's, whcih is about 3km away. Ali and Katie (the owners) were super friendly and warm and welcoming and we've made friends for life. Can't wait to come back. (also, the pictures on booking.com don't truly reflect the actual size of thr room. It's MASSIVE. You actually get 2 full rooms, not 1. Pleasant pleasant surprise!)

Lukas, Irawan and staff gave our family a very personalized, fun and accommodating experience in an already magical island. White sand beach with crystal clear, warm waters housing schools of fish and coral for snorkeling at the shoreline. I loved the homecooked meals - local foods, fish and taste. They created a special lobster candlelight dinner on sunset beach for Father's Day, played games/soccer with the kids, homemade stone oven pizza one night, movie night on the beach, a trip to explore a hidden jungle cave (magical!), learning tour of a local clinic and village tour ending in karaoke. Very few mosquitos. +Wifi- good. We were able to fully unplug & extended our stay to 5 nights.

The river, the views!! We all loved the placed and we will absolutely come back, the stuff was super nice and the activities we did were amazing!!! Our tour guide was very gentle, helping us with everything we need it, the tour to see the orangutans was a dream come true and the hike we did even though was very difficult ( we choose the difficult path) it was so magical no one want it to finish, we decide to choose a tour were we sleep in the jungle for one night and we just wish that we could’ve stay more, there were monkeys everywhere we were so high in the mountains that we can see the clouds near us, a totally mystical experience. Thank you all we will keep this places for ever in our hearts
