First time skiing in Hakuba, first time in Japan ... I chose 'Bohemians' simply because of the good reviews – I had no idea where it was or how convenient it would be for our stay. I was travelling with the family and had so many questions, but Gas answered them all very patiently. He runs an amazing hostel/guest house and went out of his way to accommodate us. I loved the diverse mix of people who were there at the same time as us – breakfast and dinner times were in particular really social and there was a lovely communal vibe.

Our stay with Akira-san was a true testament to exceptional hospitality. He went above and beyond as a host, tending to us with incredible patience and providing an unforgettable cultural experience. For dinner, he prepared a traditional Japanese irori (囲炉裏, 居炉裏) and shared wonderful stories about himself. Afterward, he built a bonfire so we could sit outside and watch the stars. To top it off, Akira-san let us try his private sauna, which was a lovely way to relax in the peaceful night. In the morning, we were surprised with a delicious homemade breakfast served right next to a beautiful view. Facilities-wise, his house is incredibly homely, comfortable, and spotless, with a notably deluxe bathroom.
