Everything was absolutely fantastic, a 10/10 for a couple. The place is simply stunning, out of a fairy tale. The daily private onsen available was an amazing perk after a full day of skiing. The shuttle to the ski station stops right at the front of the hotel. The daily breakfast served privately in the room was absolutely exceptional, with freshly baked pastries. Super hotel. We first stayed here back in 2019 and even thought the ownership has changed the hotel’s still very welcoming and is a great place to stay. This time we had one of the cabins in the forest rather than staying in the main hotel. The apres-ski in the lounge is a nice bonus. They offer a shuttle to Happo-One and Iwatake and back & the ski-bus to Hakuba 47 stops at the end of the driveway, so it’s easy for skiing. The staff couldn’t be more cheerful or helpful so all in all a very nice Christmas break.

Very beautiful even when there is not much snow left. It must be great in January and February when it snows heavily. A private stay in the middle of the forest and mountain. Very beutiful view!!! First time staying at Hakuba Alpine Hotel, and it definitely won’t be our last. This will absolutely be our go-to place whenever we’re back in Hakuba. The hotel is owned by a wonderful gentleman whose family has run it for over 100 years, and you can really feel the care and pride in the way it’s operated. He was incredibly accommodating and even helped us book a taxi to the station on our last day when it was early and too icy to walk. The location is fantastic — most things are within walking distance, including Happo-One Ski Resort, plenty of great restaurants, Lawson’s, the bus terminal, and more dining options nearby. Breakfast was generous and kept us full for hours, and the onsen was the perfect way to relax after a long day on the slopes. We stayed in a tatami room — the mattress was a little thin, but it was all part of the experience and we made do. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and would happily return again. Highly recommend.

The chalet is just beautiful, plenty of room for a family, comfortable beds, no complaints at all. Can also use the services from the hotel just across such as the taxi shuttle, assist with making reservations, trips to supermarket etc. Staff were very helpful and friendly, made us feel very welcome. Location is great - short walk to the Kokusai lift (and Evergreen ski school), plus many restaurants and ski hire nearby). The hotel offers a shuttle to the lifts in the morning and back in the afternoon but no big deal to walk if you need to. We had a minor issue with the dishwasher and someone came to assist within two minutes ! We absolutely loved our stay and will be back.

Definitely need to come back to this city. We missed the hike to Happo Pond because the trail was temporarily closed for a week, and the weather was a bit cloudy during our stay following the typhoon. Even so, the city was incredibly peaceful and beautiful. I absolutely loved every moment here and can't wait to return.

Well, this Japanese resort had the edge on the European Alps for snow this Christmas (despite early snow in the Alps). The resort runs were bare when we got there but conditions at altitude were very good, and enhanced by a massive dump of snow mid-week. There are plenty of Onsen bathing options - perfect for relaxing Apres ski and whether public or private they cost very little - I wish I could have visited more of them! Snow monkeys climbing the pylons in Happo-One a definite highlight!

We would highly recommend Hotel Restaurant Traumerei to anyone looking for a top notch stay in the mountain area. In May, Hobaka is absolutely beautiful but not as busy as the winter season (it is a ski resort in winter). The place is approximately one hour away from Nagano. Several buses leave the Nagano train station for Hobaka every day and the train station information center has English speakers who are very informative.

We stayed near Tsugaike Kogen. It's a nice small town. The main drawback is that there is very limited affordable (i.e 1000 to 2000 yen per person) dining options and no supermarket. We had to drive down to echoland for dinner.

I love this location. you can get everywhere without a car because there are many shuttles, taxis, and buses. the hotel staff will drive you for free at this place. also you can walk to some nearby places if it is not too cold for you. make sure you bring waterproof shoes and cold weather socks and clothes. renting snowboard gear can be cheaper than bringing your own.

The choices of different resorts was great.

The choices of different resorts was great. Having grown up skiing Vermont and New York, we ski expert runs and tree skiing, but not backcountry so much. There are plenty of those types of runs at Hakuba. We only got JAPOW powder on one day where powder was up to the knees, and to be fair, it was a lot of work! I can at least I got to experience it. The other days it really felt like tree skiing in Vermont. We got lucky with the weather as well, temperatures were -5C to +5C in mid-February and lots of blue skies. One reason we chose Echoland as our location to stay is because we did not rent a car. The hotel picked us up at the train station on the day of our arrival and dropped us off at the Happo Bus Terminal on our way back to Tokyo. The hotel also offers free rides to 4 of the resorts - we used the service to get rides to Happo One and 47/Goryu. The other ski days (Cortina/Norikura and Iwatake) it was only an eight-minute walk to the bus stop at the bottom of Echoland. The buses were generally packed, and it was bit confusing on where to pick up the buses at the end of each day to get back to Echoland. The online app helped and we figured it out eventually. Ranking the four - 1. Cortina, 2. Iwatake (JAPOW day), 3. 47/Goryu and 4. Happo (very limited visibility on the day we went). The downside for us was Echoland itself. Tons of restaurants, but there are no supermarkets, 7-11s or pharmacies in Echoland. It is a pretty long walk to any of these places without a car. Also, we were surrounded by Aussies during our time in Echoland, so if you want more of a true Japanese ski trip experience, you may wish to stay elsewhere.
