The staff were incredibly helpful from way before our arrival helping us plan the best route there from Tokyo and even afterwards helping me in finding a missing item I left on a bus in the area. They went above and beyond. The rooms were spacious, quiet and clean and they had shuttles to the ski lifts which were very easy to use and not too far from the town for restaurants.

We stayed near Echo Land just near Hakuba in the Hakuba...

We stayed near Echo Land just near Hakuba in the Hakuba Valley. We skiied Happo One, Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike Kogen. It was great to have a car for the 5 of us to get around to different resorts and to find interesting places for dinner. We arrived by train from Matsumoto (flight from Sapporo) and left via bus to Nagano (for the Shinkansen to Tokyo). If there were only a couple of us we could have taken the nearby buses around and to the neighboring resorts, however a car made it easier.

Well, this Japanese resort had the edge on the European Alps...

Well, this Japanese resort had the edge on the European Alps for snow this Christmas (despite early snow in the Alps). The resort runs were bare when we got there but conditions at altitude were very good, and enhanced by a massive dump of snow mid-week. There are plenty of Onsen bathing options - perfect for relaxing Apres ski and whether public or private they cost very little - I wish I could have visited more of them! Snow monkeys climbing the pylons in Happo-One a definite highlight!

Great location directly opposite chair lifts and Gondola. Easy to ski in/out. Hotel was great. Recently refurbished and well managed . Staff were excellent and friendly and offered great service.Good bar and cafe as part of hotel made the stay more pleasant. Rooms are roomy by Japanese hotel standards but are a little functional as opposed to comfortable. Beds are very hard and not very comfortable.

The location was very convenient.

The location was very convenient. Not quite ski in ski out but just across the street with a couple of access areas from the slope. There are lots of eating places, a convenience store and little shops down the road. We enjoyed a good variety of items for breakfast every morning that fueled us up before hitting the slopes! They had a small selection for their dinner menu which did not disappoint!! If you plan on eating dinner, make sure you come hungry! We had the hot pot one night and the bbq on our last night they were both sooo good! One thing I would recommend is that you contact the hotel for a ride from wherever you’re getting dropped off. It’s quite a walk up a hill with your luggage and gear. We learned that the hard way. Thankfully, they gave us a ride to our bus station on the morning we checked out. Overall great experience! Super friendly owners and attentive hard working staff.

We stayed near Tsugaike Kogen. It's a nice small town.

We stayed near Tsugaike Kogen. It's a nice small town. The main drawback is that there is very limited affordable (i.e 1000 to 2000 yen per person) dining options and no supermarket. We had to drive down to echoland for dinner.

I love this location. you can get everywhere without a car...

I love this location. you can get everywhere without a car because there are many shuttles, taxis, and buses. the hotel staff will drive you for free at this place. also you can walk to some nearby places if it is not too cold for you. make sure you bring waterproof shoes and cold weather socks and clothes. renting snowboard gear can be cheaper than bringing your own.

This was my second trip to Hakuba and I enjoyed it better...

This was my second trip to Hakuba and I enjoyed it better then first time. I used Nagano Snow transfers from Henada and they dropped me at my hotel door ZU-Thones. Skied at Happo, Iwatake, 47/Goryu mountains and enjoyed all of them. Shuttle buses were on time as usual and food was great at all the places I ate at. Transfer back to Henada was seamless as expected with usual stop at Myoki Farm and servo. Hot chocolate with rum from the food truck in Happo central that serves the crepes is a great way to finish each night. The crepes are excellent as well.

Great slopes lots of beginners and intermediate runs. Lots of eateries but limited apre ski activities This resort is only accessible via bus and there are queues The restaurants are small and fill up so not a lot of choice
