We loved the warm community space set up with games and books in the hotel lobby. The 24 hour lounge with food and coffee was icing on the cake. The complimentary refillable water bottles, bikes, umbrellas and coin laundry were great amenities to have.

The staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel was a bit far from Gion and Kyoto station, but it is in a very peaceful area close to a small stream. I opted for the Japanese breakfast, which was delivered to my room by a friendly member of staff. The food itself was delicious. I also enjoyed using the cyprus bathtub that came with my room. It was the perfect way to relax after a long day of walking around Kyoto. The location is quiet and beautiful; perfect for someone looking for relaxation and taking in the sights of Kyoto. I would definitely recommend this establishment and I hope to visit again soon!

If you're into temples, shrines and castles, Kyoto has got plenty but the city is really spread out. Kyoto station is also big. Bus and subway on the north side go all over town. One subway to the main station being the Karasuma line. You have to change lines often. The buses go everywhere. These are the two you use to get to sites. Working it out it out is not easy. I walked a lot to begin with and probably saw more than using buses and subway lines. I used walking tours which you pay for, but I got good information from it. Kyoto is a cultural experience but you need time to see it all.

Beautiful surroundings, not many tourists, cable cars to both sides of the water bridge were great, I went on a hike on one (although they want you to pay for the bus, it was a bit much, so I walked to the temple). I walked across the water bridge about 3 times, great walk, and a great solo trip even for women alone. I recommend it. I did also one day trip to boat villgae Inu - amazing. Recommend to go on the boat with locals.

We stayed one night and spent around half of two separate days in Ine. We loved Ine Cafe with its outside waterfront section, as well as Wadatsumi, a seafood restaurant serving freshly caught fish from the fishing boats we could see from our hotel window (and from almost everywhere else in town). The boat tour with a surprise seagull feeding session was also a highlight! Otherwise, there are some cute stores and cafes to explore along the main stretch, and a viewing point selling souvenirs at the top of a hill overlooking the town--all very walkable. Ine is so small that we kept bumping into the hotel staff and chatting about our day, or the town itself, which we found very charming and a great opportunity to get to know the area's history and feel its specific Kansai charm. However, this was all in Japanese, as was our boat tour, and I wondered whether much English is spoken generally. A day trip or overnight tour is enough to 'do' and 'see' everything, but Ine is really about soaking up the atmosphere, enjoying creature comforts, and contemplating the shifting scenery as the light and weather change--a longer stay would be perfect for a workcation or writer's retreat, for example, but likely a little difficult for young kids.

I found good fresh food, and a special coffee shop to satisfy my cappuccino habit. When I needed help, people were very kind and helpful. Nature and ancient structures created wonder. Travel was sometimes confusing. Too many tourists ever; and I was embarrassed at lack of respect for sacred sites. Kyoto truly has something for everyone. Beware of walking on the streets. It was safe- but people push in front without any eye contact. Once you figure out how to navigate this, you become a cog in the walking machine.

I especially recommend it to travelers from overseas. If you are sightseeing in Kyoto, Nara, or Osaka for a few days, staying at this facility and using Kameoka as your base will be the best way to travel to Kansai. Like taking a day trip from your home. If your schedule is 2 nights and 3 days or 3 nights and 4 days, it is definitely a good deal even if you add transportation expenses. You can't stay in a house in Kyoto or Nara.

Having lived and worked in Japan for two years, 25 years ago...

Having lived and worked in Japan for two years, 25 years ago, I still missed many corners of the beauty of Kyoto and its food and art scene. Apart from the well known Gion neighborhood, the Kyomizudera temple and a day trip to Nara, we discoverd many other lesser know temples like the Ginkaku-ji temple and the connecting 1 mile philosopher path to the Nanzen-ji-temple or the Senbon- Torii (one thousand gates) temple, true to its name and especially inspiring after dark or at dawn. Many years ago I visited the old imperial place but I skipped it this time as i found it less inspiring that these temples. Local kaiseki cusine has a different feeling from Tokyo as it is rooted in Kyoto own Obanzai style, that is cooking with simple ingredients and minimizing waste. It is also affordable, picking the right restaurants, for example Gion's Ishibekoji Mamecha. We spent four nights but probably six nights would have been perfect for a richer insight.

Miyazu which includes Amanohashidate, is one of three natural sites in Japan. The land bridge spans across the sea is fun to view from the observation points (on both sides) and you can actually bike (20 minutes) or walk (50 minutes) one way across. A small town with lots of charm and beauty.
