We have mixed feelings about this stay. First of all, we were surprised that the host never introduced themselves. We still don't know whether we were communicating with a man or a woman, and although the listing says they speak English, they mostly replied in Portuguese. We had to use a translator every time we communicated. At check-in, we had trouble getting access. The gate was locked, and we knocked, called, and sent messages for quite a while before the pool maintenance person helped us get in touch with the host. To their credit, the host apologized. The last downside was that the property outside and garden are under constant video surveillance. The listing mentioned security cameras, but it didn't make it clear that they record you while you're on the property. I asked the host about this, and they explained that it's for security purposes so the police or security company would have video footage if anything happened. It was very uncomfortable knowing that someone could be watching us the entire time. It felt like we had no privacy. At check-out, we struggled to put the key back into the lockbox, and the host immediately messaged us saying we could just leave the box and not worry about it. At that point, we knew for certain that they were watching us through the cameras. If you don't mind the surveillance, I can highly recommend this place. The house is fantastic, the pool is wonderful, and the garden is beautiful and very cozy.
