Dona Generosa and her husband Rui are amazing. We loved every minute of our stay. The swimming pool is lovely, the location perfect and very calm. Pipoca the dog is so sweet! We were surrounded by donkeys and the beautiful Alentejo views.

Very quiet location, in the middle of the montado; large rooms with comfortable beds and storage space for your stuff; superb well-equipped kitchen ; large swimming pool; large well-designed living room for the family moments ; support for any required (the WC broke and in half an hour someone was coming to fix it)

Our stay at Casa Az-Zagal Hotel was absolutely wonderful. The hotel itself is like a step back in time, with each room styled uniquely to reflect the charm of a traditional Portuguese home. It’s full of character but still manages to be incredibly comfortable and inviting. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Gonçalo, the General Manager. He showed us around and shared the hotel’s history, which added so much depth to our stay. He was friendly, approachable, and clearly passionate about the place, which really set the tone for the entire experience. The hotel’s atmosphere is incredibly peaceful, and the pool area, though small, is beautifully designed - a perfect spot to relax and take in the serene surroundings. But let’s talk about the food - because it was the absolute highlight of our stay. Trust me, as someone who’s a serious foodie and has eaten at countless restaurants, this is not a compliment I give lightly: it was the best food I’ve ever had. The head chef is not just talented but also incredibly warm and passionate. Each dish was a masterpiece, rooted in traditional Portuguese flavors, and the chef took the time to explain the story behind each one. We even had a great chat and discovered he’s a Manchester fan (great taste!) Every bite was an experience, and the meals are something we’ll be dreaming about for years to come. Casa Az-Zagal is a truly special place. From the welcoming staff to the peaceful setting and the unforgettable food, it’s a stay we’ll always remember. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels both authentic and luxurious, this is it - you won’t regret it!

Beautiful and peacefull typical Alentejo place surrounded by olive trees and mountains. Nice outside breakfast with daily fresh Alentejo bread and a swimmingpool to cool down after visiting the nearby villages, winery's and castles. Miquel gives you all the information you need incl restaurant tips in a 10 to 30 min distance from low to highclass quality food. We had a great Alentejo time. Thank you Miquel.

Nearly everything was great. The house and the stay was beautiful and you even get a key to a park house in Évora.

I stayed at Villa Extramuros for two nights, and it was hands down the best place to stay if you're looking to unwind, reconnect with nature, and explore the beautiful surroundings. The location is perfect – peaceful and immersed in nature, yet just a short drive from Évora and Estremoz, two must-visit towns full of charm and history. The atmosphere is incredibly relaxing. It’s the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle. Highly recommended for couples, families, or anyone looking to slow down and truly enjoy the Alentejo region. I can’t wait to return!
