The Strand is one of Queensland's best kept secrets! Some visitors travel along the Bruce Highway through Townsville and miss out on a top spot to stay and enjoy. We enjoyed the C Bar, Coffee Club and Juliet's. Great place for families to stay - plenty for kids with the water park and pool, as well as room to ride bikes etc.
We were there for #CYA2017 Conference (where I shortlisted for YA and MG). Fabulous conference with a huge program of writing and publishing professionals. Must do if you are there in July and have a passion for all things writing. Checked out 'What's On' in Brisbane and visited the Gladiator Show at the Museum, it was good (the museum was better - and free). Saw 'The Woman in Black' at the Brisbane Theatre. A scary, entertaining play that is well worth a look. Visited an interactive and futuristic digital/robotic program at the Queensland State Library (another freebie well worth doing and hugely entertaining). Had a lovely breakfast at Olio. Enjoyed the sun on the river at Southbank, and that was just in 24 hours!
We actually live in the outer suburbs of Brisbane and have travelled overseas, but we find nothing can beat Brisbane for a peaceful and enjoyable mini-holiday. There is plenty to do around Brisbane - even on a tight budget [think City Hopper ferries/buses, lovely walks, cinema, good range of dining options]. We love walking along Southbank and through the Botanic Gardens. Also enjoyed the ferry ride to beautiful University of Queensland, and the night time view from the Wheel. Loved the walk on the pedestrian bridge from Southbank to Botanic Gardens and, if you can't quite make it across without a coffee, then there is a lovely young man with a coffee cart on the bridge!
The city was so clean and modern. Anyone at any of the shops were friendly and had great hospitality. The food was good anywhere you went. There's so much to do in Brisbane or right outside of Brisbane. Queensland is the best!
Great to stay a few days there if you are visiting Queensland - good for jogging, cycling and seeing museums, and with many lovely restaurants too.
We stayed at the Hillcrest Guest House, beautifullly refurbished old Queenslander, which included great breakfast options! We walked into town and checked out the historical landmarks, fishing off the netty at the end of Main Street, walked to the Museum which was great, the Grassy Hill lookout was a great workout hill climb and the sunset from there looking back to the Endeavour was amazing. So many places to explore in the 4wd, and the drive home along the Bloomfield track through the Daintree was stunningly beautiful
It's a small boutique town nestled between the sea and the rainforest. Close to all the world heritage sites people come to far north Queensland to see. It's pretty touristy though and the main street is basically full of hotels and shops. Still there is a laidback and relaxed feel and charm to the place.
Quiet and friendly, Rockhampton is still a big country town. The river walks are delightful but need further development. Close to the coast and historical Mt Morgan. Mt Archer and the botanical gardens are worth a visit. The best steaks in Central Queensland.
The Gold Coast is beautiful. The beaches are amazing. We stayed at main beach. The tragic was light. Wasn’t busy like the other parts of Queensland. Highly recommend
Airlie, like so many other tourist towns in Queensland is clearly suffering from a severe decline in tourism. Cafes closed, restaurants and shops gone. The hub of the marina with modernized facilities is great though. No uber yet apparently although we walked everywhere so for us it didn’t matter. The boardwalk joins the two ends of town with an easy stroll past the lagoon which is lovely. Shute harbour has gone largely due the damage caused by Debbie, which clearly caused a lot more damage than most of us realize.

Apple Blossom is a large Queenslander house with two large bathrooms, one with spa. There are reverse cycle air cons in all bedrooms and main living area as well as a wood fire in the living room. The back deck is huge and the views over Stanthorpe are lovely. It's like being at home but better. There's a laundry with washer and dryer, dishwasher and all cooking facilities in the kitchen and a parents retreat in the main bedroom. It's a lovely, rather large house with ample room for a family and extra guests. Love the place!!!!

The grounds of this property are great - very tropical and exactly what you want when visiting North Queensland. The pool is very large and although we didn't use it, it was being enjoyed by many families. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room itself was a good size for two persons, with a separate four person dining table and large couch. While it is possible to walk into the centre of Port Douglas, the property was well serviced by the local shuttles and only a short drive away. Good bar option.

We arrived around dinner time and the owners were very hospitable and welcoming offering us a welcome drink and some yummy nuts after a long day travelling. Much to our delight we were also upgraded to the spa suite which was very nice and a great way to end our trip in far north Queensland. The breakfast was so yummy and filling made with all local produce which was nice to eat outside on our verandah in the sun. Lovely staff and oscar and lucy the pooch welcoming committee

The room was clean and spacious. Our balcony overlooked the pool which was nice. Bed was extremely comfortable and the air con was heaven away from the Queensland heat. The restaurants are so close. I recommend Taps - funky hip craft beer bar with a bunch of fun games for free and incredible food. The beach is really close and everything you could want is walking distance. It's a simple hotel but perfect for a weekend away.

We loved our stay at Dreamtime! This hostel has so much character and felt like home! The staff was incredible and helped us book tours in advance of our arrival. They also offered fun dinners at the hostel - great value, great food, and great fun! Overall the staff at Dreamtime went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience in Cairns. It was a perfect and authentic welcome to Far North Queensland!

The property is a beautiful old restored Queenslander, meaning that it only has minimal occupants at one time. The twin room was a perfect size & Peter (manager?) couldn't have been more helpful. There is a great kitchen area with free tea & coffee as well as parking & a pool. All for a great price & within 600m from the city centre & right across from the main shopping plaza.

Lovely host and great location just off of Brunswick St in New Farm. The property is a beautiful renovated Queenslander. The bedrooms aren’t large but the lovely backyard area makes up for it. It was a lovely 15 minute walk into the CBD, including a nice view of the CBD with river views.

A classic Queenslander house, the bed was really comfortable and the fruit platter had a great selection of tropical fruits. Nothing was too much trouble for my host Russell, who was friendly and attentive when needed. It is also an easy walking distance to the city center.

The Queenslander was perfect for our three nights in Port Douglas. It was VERY clean and a short walk to the main street and the beach (5 mins). Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great pool. Great value for money, would definately recommend.

This is a lovely locally run business in a fantastic location of Port Douglas. The staff were helpful about the local area and were kind. I really enjoyed that this place was run by Australian people from Queensland and the area.

The unit was so huge and well equipped. Unfortunately I had nobody to share it with! It’s an easy walk over the dune to the beach. Very clean! Peaceful part of the Queensland coast
