EVERYTHING, it’s a gem in the Cabot Trail, we had the best time. Holger and his wife Betty are the best hosts taking care of all details to make sure we had an amazing stay. The hotel, the common areas and the rooms are so unique and the surroundings are so beautiful and peaceful. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was a wonderful and delicious experience. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Quiet country setting only 5 minutes from town with fewer guests for a homey atmosphere. The owners were on site and spent time talking to us about things to do and the history of the area. Michelle (the owner) thought of everything - water in the fridge, cups plates and napkins and cutlery, and mosquito repellant so we could sit outside at night, the treats from the local bakery were an added touch. Would definitely stay there again.

Touring through the Maritimes I have deliberately looked for unconventional and quirky place to stay in beautiful places. Feeling very smug about this one - the Birch Plain Tower fits the brief ++. The location is remote but on the main Cabot Trail road and a vehicle is absolutely essential. The site has 4 cabins plus the Tower set in woodland bordering the sea with a short walk to a breath taking private beach. Very stoney - don't expect sand but beautiful and so peaceful. Ton, our host was very welcoming and helpful and cooked a fantastic breakfast for us - have the pannenkoeken, delicious! The tower itself is self contained with it's own facilities. It is above the comfort station for the other 4 cabins. I didn't realise this until we got there but it really wasn't an issue. It is the Rolls Royce of comfort stations and our fellow guests were very quiet and respectful of each other's space and privacy. The tower is an amazing structure, it's bijou but very well thought out and does feel a bit like staying in a tree house - exactly what I was after. Be assured the stairs to the sleeping area. although steep, are 'proper' stairs and not a ladder. We had such clear nights we kept the blinds open and watched the stars. Fantastic value for money. We had 3 nights in the Tower and were so sorry to leave. Magical place. Thank Ton & Yvonne. I really hope we'll be back one day.

We went to the Freight Shed for a late lunch.

We went to the Freight Shed for a late lunch. We wanted halibut. It was expensive so we were surprised at how small the piece of halibut was. We went home and were still hungry. We went to the local ceilidh in the evening. We invited friends expecting to sing and dance and enjoy an evening together. It ended up being a crowded concert. Even though it promised song and dance, we only got music. The musicians were very good but did not know how to use the microphones. One spoke too close to the mic and it was painful to hear. We left at the break. It was not the fun evening we had expected. They should call it a concert, not a ceilidh.

Lots of interesting places to visit , everyone is super friendly and welcoming. On the way to Inverness, the beach is one of the best places. The lighthouse in Cheticamp isn’t worth the drive in the gravel road, and not the nicest lighthouse, there are many others.

We LOVED our accommodations, the quiet and the beach!

We LOVED our accommodations, the quiet and the beach! Most restaurant food was very good. Loved whale watching and the gondola. Would have like a continental breakfast as there were no restaurants within walking distance. Also, restaurants close too early and many ran out of food so decided to close! 150 people at the pizza place (because no place else was open with availability) on a Sunday wasn’t fun.

Everyone in this small town was friendly. Purchased some groceries in the small supermarket, had coffee and dessert at Main Street Restaurant. Would have liked to lunch there. Menu looked amazing. Got our lobsters at the wharf on Wharf Street.

Good spot for sunsets. Very small town off the Cabot Trail.

Good spot for sunsets. Very small town off the Cabot Trail. Therefore very few restaurants. They also close early in the shoulder season so good to keep in mind. The main restaurant was Belles and it had a good selection on the menu. The lobster roll was okay and the seafood chowder good.

The staff are so nice and helpful.

The staff are so nice and helpful. Their restaurant on site was so convenient after a busy day, food was delicious. The beds are comfy. The grounds were nicely decorated with lots of places to sit to do some star gazing. The wifi can be spotty at times and is not their fault due to the area they are located. It is a beautiful and peaceful spot to stay surrounded by mountains. Very quiet. Loved our stay and will go back again.

It is gorgeous but even more remote than I realized. Options for food and bathrooms are few and far between and have limited operating hours. Plan accordingly and it will be perfect! The Dancing Moose and the Clucking Hen were both terrific with the offerings and the quality of the food.

This was a unique communal camping experience but it is not, as they call themselves, a 4-star resort. It is definitely not for everyone and I would highly recommend more clarity on the Booking.com site. My review should be on there.

The Cabot trail is a must see!

The Cabot trail is a must see! This time we drove it in a counter clockwise direction and it was spectacular! We ate at a diner in Margaree . The owners name is Roddie and he is so interesting to talk to! Food was fantastic! The only thing I’d avoid is the potholes in some of the roads! LOL!

Baddeck is a quaint little town and the perfect base for exploring the Cabot Trail. It has a charming, small-town feel with lovely views of the Bras d'Or Lake, and everything you need — restaurants, shops, and accommodations — is within easy walking distance. Its central location on Cape Breton Island makes it ideal for day trips around the trail, and it's a peaceful, welcoming spot to return to after a day of sightseeing. One thing to note: the town is very quiet in the evenings, and most shops and restaurants close early, so don't expect much nightlife. That said, it makes for a lovely, peaceful stroll after dinner. Highly recommend it as a home base for a Cape Breton trip.
