United KingdomExcellent location - you can either ski in/out directly from the hotel to the nearby drag lift and then ski across to the main chairlift, or walk 5 minutes (uphill) to a main chairlift. The car park of the main chairlift is directly outside the hotel (that’s how close it is).
We had the 2 bedroom sharing suite as a group of 4 and it was excellent - it had a mini kitchen for coffee and storing of cold food and drinks (in the fridge) and also a lounge area where we could watch TV together in the evenings.
The suite also gave us free access to the wellness suite allowing us to have saunas everyday (as well as the jacuzzi bath in the room) which was lovely after a long day of skiing. The wellness suite is very clean and we had to ourselves the whole week.
Also excellent staff - they let us check out late on the last day (5pm) at a cost and heated the sauna ready for us at 17:30 everyday. Very friendly and welcoming.
The free parking is also ideal. We had a hire car as were meeting friends in a nearby town and also used it to drive down the mountain to the bigger shops (about 15 min drive) to get a cheaper dinner.

Authentic, cozy hotel. Lovely staff, large rooms with comfortable beds. Loved the warm sunny balcony. Restaurant has beautiful sweeping views, serving authentic Swiss meals. Exceptional location, many hikes accessible from the hotel, and a short drive down to Weesen and the lake.

The room was fantastic, high ceilings, big curtains, a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was beautiful and modern, and everything felt thoughtfully designed. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I had a truly lovely stay.

This was the perfect base for our walk to Paxmal. Our host was very friendly and helpful helping us out with plenty of walking maps of the area, and providing us a fantastic breakfast on both mornings of our stay.

Great base for exploring mountains, either within this...
Great base for exploring mountains, either within this resort or using neighbouring lifts. Tannenboden area also benefits from a lift down to the lake, which is great for a soak after a long day hiking! Tannenheim is more suited for extensive downhill mountain biking. Skiing the area would be great if you can handle black and red runs.

A quaint village on the shores of Lake Walensee, under the impressive Churfirsten (mountain range). Can be busy and crowded on a warm summers day. Best time to visit would be early morning or early evening. If a keen hiker it's a wonderful mid-point stop or end point treat for a meal and a well deserved refreshment. Some lovely local products on sale. A small village but if you stop 'and smell the roses' you'll be rewarded with experiencing the energy that flows through the streets and vineyards.

Amazing quiet little town on walensee.
Amazing quiet little town on walensee. Views are just wonderful. The views are what you would imagine Switzerland to look like: Blue lake, mountains, green fields with a wooden farm and a Swiss flag 🇨🇭
Summer tips:
-take a day on the boat (family tickets available) and explore the other little towns on the lake.
- Go up to flumserberg and enjoy the hikes, mountain biking and more
- enjoy the lake :)

The location was just wonderful, perched high up with outstanding views, and access to the ancient castle. To get there, the satnav did not know of new roads! Dinner was good. Frankly, I expected more of the room: yes, it said shared wc and shower, but it was a bit basic for the price.

beautiful secluded area in the middle of Switzerland, that is 1 hour away from Zurich and 1 hour away from St. Gallen and Appenzel. in 10 min you are in Weesen at the shores of Weesensee (a beautiful and tranquil lake between two mountains (no wonder the area is call the fiord of Switzerland).
it is a great area for hiking, watersports, and just relaxation.

It’s a very cute small town with beautiful views and lake...
It’s a very cute small town with beautiful views and lake trails and benches, however not every train stops there so you always have to check the trains. Not much to do in the town, not even place to eat or have a beer but it’s a great location as a base for exploring the Wales’s lake area.
We enjoyed the piece and quiet and no tourists around.

The beauty and charm of the Walenstadt area captured my heart to such an extent that I found myself contemplating the possibility of calling it home. The mesmerising landscapes, coupled with the warm and welcoming atmosphere, created a deep sense of attachment that made me envision a life in this remarkable region. We used this motel as we were going traveling through for one night. The rooms were very clean and make sure that you eat at their restaurant as it was superb as well as the great breakfast they provided for their guest. The rooms are a bit small, but it was great for a place to rest. I would stay there again.

I stayed just one night here, a tag-on from a weekend with a friend. The actual skiing was really good, with some lovely runs. Not a massive ski area, but more than enough for 2-3 days.
Only down side is that I didn't see many apres bars, but I wasn't really there long enough to explore.
Really easy resort to get to from Zurich Airport - the trains are good and you can easily get the gondola up from Unterterzen train station, making this a good option for a weekend break.

If you like amazing views, boating, hiking, skiing, mountain biking or trail running then this is the perfect place. The views are out of this world with waterfalls everywhere and crystal clear water in a massive lake surrounded by snow capped mountains.
