The team in the reception and cafe were SO friendly and helpful, we felt really at home and could have stayed a lot longer! We booked the hot tub which was great. Cooked a simple meal or two in the lodge and kitchen facilities were good. Absolutely loved it!

New ZealandI knew breakfast was included in the price, but I thought it would be just the usual basic Chilean breakfast. Luckily I was wrong. It was a great breakfast buffet. It would be considered quite decent even in places like Germany. The location is excellent. Less than a minute walk from the main square in town, not far from the produce market and the shopping mall.

Really in the centre of town, so best use satnav gps because of one direction streets.
Hotel is remodelled and rooms freshly painted. Breakfast room is non decorated and very simple but breakfast is great, choice of fruit too and freshly made scrambled eggs ,plus all the usual things.
We liked our short stay very much. Visit the cathedral, stunning architecture.
We felt really welcome and had a nice conversation with the receptionist.

Our stay was just perfect! The cabañas are literally next to the main road, but just enough off the road to give you an "in nature" feeling and not hear any traffic. So, very quiet and cozy! The area itself is very spacious, with a playground for kids, horses and a laguna. The owner was very friendly: we received information how to get there beforehand, and he even heated up the cabañas for us! The weather was really cold during our stay, but the oven heated up the cabaña very nicely- we didn't freeze when it was -2°C outside. Beds are comfy and kitchen was well equipped. Also, we had cellphone reception there.

Lots of restaurants, and a few mini marts.
Lots of restaurants, and a few mini marts. Plenty of options in town for renting ski gear and chains. I did not see any options for getting gas or a cash machine, but I didn't look that hard. The main road thru town is paved, the rest are not and very rough, full of potholes.

We went to see the Siqueiros murals, but unfortunately the building was closed the day we were there. The city is a pleasant place with several nice parks. Not being a typical tourist stop, it was a great place to experience everyday life. The market was interesting and fun to walk around. It's a great place for local Chilean dishes!

It´s a beautiful place, with cute and cosy cafés and restaurants but transportation there is an issue if you don´t rent a car.
The sky park is amazing but rather expensive.
I recommend renting your equipment in the store adjacent to El Leñador market, which is where we also bought food

The restaurant / bar attached to the casino has excellent burgers with unusual names and a large selection of local beers. The Volcano restaurant outside the casino was excellent for steak and tuna tartar. I recommend the limonada de menta; my fellow diners raved about the pisco sours.
Just a note for business travelers; laundry service and ironing boards are not provided.
The restaurant in the hotel has a good buffet breakfast and good menu for lunch.
The reception desk staff is very friendly and helpful. We needed to cut our stay short by one day in order to attend to some other business in Santiago and there was no issue making the change.
I will stay here again.

Las Trancas is a great base for the adventure enthusiasts...
Las Trancas is a great base for the adventure enthusiasts with excellent mountain biking, snow skiing, and trekking on your doorstep. There are good restaurants and cafes to enjoy and shops supporting your activities with gear for rental and sale. Access is very easy on a tarred road all the way.

Chillán is highly underrated.
Chillán is highly underrated. I love visiting the Mexican murals in the Escuela de México, seeing the Cathedral, walking through the vegetable and artesan markets, and eating in the Mercado Municipal. Eat at Cocinería Carmencita, they have amazing Chilean dishes! Also, if you crave a good coffee, and especially if you are gluten free, go to Cafetería Limarí. Amazing gluten free desserts!
