Staff were SO helpful because it was quite quiet, they even drove us to the bus station when we were struggling to get a taxi. And let us check out late no extra charge. Really close to the beach and restaurants but couldn’t hear any noise from the hotel.

The facilities and their condition are excellent!. I am as very impressed with the attention to detail and how fully setup my suite was. I stayed in the deluxe suite with sea views. It was outstanding! Each year I stay in over approximately 80 different hotels and this was one of the best ! Hence I highly recommend it. To the extent, that I actually changed a busy future itinerary, so that I could stay an extra night ! Can't remember the last time I did that ! Eva and the team who run the lodge were also exceptional. Don't look anywhere else , stay here and if possible in this Deluxe Suite, but the other rooms also looked excellent ! The pools ( yes two of them), and the surrounding courtyard is a great place to relax. This is where I ate the most delicious breakfasts, including fresh natural juices. Also, the lodge was so peaceful & quiet, yet only a short stroll to the busy main beach street for restaurants & bars. Enjoy !

The seperior customer service agent Tatiana and Manager Alexander provided us with above and beyond fantastic professional service when we were stressed out about getting our rooms expecially when my husband was sick. They really deserve to be mentioned and applauded! They were very very kind and gave us the nicest room in the hotel. It was just gorgious. We were so very pleased! The Jr. Suite was immaculate giving you every thing you need. Many bottles of water, the bed was wonderful. The view...was amazing. Great air conditioner. Gorgious modern room. The bell man was so helpful also. And I asked to show me how to turn on the english on the tv and they sent some one up immediately. The pool was wonderfull and we enjoyed immensely the live music which we imbraised as my spirit danced around the pool. Such ambiance. The breakfast was very good also. I also liked my Sons Bunglow room. Immaculate and fresh! So quite with a pool steps across from their room. The secret door to the beach was a find and ez passage to the beach. Loved it! And the showers for your feet was just a happy site when we came back through the secret door from the beach. The location is is the best in all of Manta...Seriously!!! The shopping mall is right across the street. Coffee is right their. Also out side their is a bakery that you have to try...Delicious.. ( Oh by the way the coffee for breakfast is delicious! Manta feels like a low-value-for-money vacation city and I don’t mean that in a negative way, just as a straightforward observation. I can imagine it may have had its charm at some point, but today it comes across as a run-down coastal town, similar to some of the poorer cities in northern France that just happen to be by the beach. If you’re coming from Europe, it might remind you of a low-budget party town in Spain not particularly beautiful, and with very little to do. The beach is average at best. The one true highlight is the fish, which is absolutely excellent. That said, I wouldn’t consider Manta a must-visit if you’re traveling to Ecuador.

There were many restaurants with good food, fresh seafood especially! There are many agents selling tours for whale watching, snorkling, skin diving, park tours and all sorts of recreational activities. Lots of small shops with tourist items. The whale season is local winter so the temperature is cooler than most expect. It gets down to 69F or 20C at night. The wind makes it feel cooler. The small motorcycle rickshaws are called "motors" and serve as taxis. The currency is US dollars and $1-$1.50 gets you anywhere in town.

I stayed at Mirada del Mar, and LOVED IT!!

I stayed at Mirada del Mar, and LOVED IT!! The family was so wonderful! I felt like I was part of someone's home. It was right in front of the beach, in between Ayampe and Puerto Rico, and I had wonderful walks to both villages. There isn't a big variety of places to eat, but there are a few comedores on the main road, about a 5 minute walk away, with great food for around $3-$4 for the Almuerzos and the Meriendas. There is also a pizza place. The hostel has a kitchen for guest use, which was nice. Although, if you plan to cook, you should probably go shopping before you go to Las Tunas. They have a terrace with hammocks on the roof with great views. Some of the people who stay there, stay long term. And they allow guests to bring their pets. I had wanted to stay in Ayampe, but it was too expensive, so I booked this hostel because it was inexpensive, and walking distance to Ayampe. I preferred this hostel and Las Tunas to Ayampe! Highly recommended.

I can completely say that I speak from experience and knowledge about this city. I'd lived in Manta, Manabi, Ecuador from December 1, 2003, until late June 2013. I felt that Manta was the lost jewel that I'd always been looking for. The city was bustling with commerce during the day and at night it came alive with fiestas and parties. The club scene was outstanding and little to no violence. Of course, they had the criminal element, but they knew to stay on their turf and not venture outward. The beaches were always alive and restaurants outstanding. I love the city and I go back often to visit my Godson and his family. Now, let's fast forward to 20 years later and the here and now. Since the uprising in Venezuela that led to the migration of their criminals to Ecuador and the corruption of the government of Ecuador since the presidency of President Correa ended, it has been a free for all of crime and violence. They have allowed illegals to enter and ravish the City of Manta, bringing their prostitution, drugs, and violent crime to a once peaceful and bustling city. No one, not even the police are doing something about it. Hence, la policia acostada, the term means the police laying down. I would visit Cuenca if I wanted to vacation in Ecuador or Guayaquil, but Guayaquil is much more down the drain than Manta. It is shameful what corruption and evil can do to a place. Now, you have it, the truth unfolded. My last time in Manta was May 19 thru June 1, 2023. The good people of Manta are still the best people on the planet. I feel so sorry for the situation that they are in.

PL is a very pleasant fishing village in EC on the Pacific ocean. The beach is fabulous and there are many good places to eat. We recommend eating at Ancora. The owners and staff are great. The chef is from Barcelona and makes some original Spanish dishes. One bit of advice for all these beach villages is eat early to avoid the loud music that fires up as the evening progresses. For some reason they think this extremely loud music is what everyone wants to hear.

Manta is a regional hub - hard to avoid but not really a tourist destination. We traveled by bus and the bus station is far from the city center. As experienced travelers, we made an intermediate hotel work for us but most tourists would probably prefer accommodations on the far side of the city above Murcielogo Beach. Downtown the restaurant Casa Rosada was great. If you want the beach and fishing village ambiance, pass by Manta and pick a coastal town further south.
