Ciutadella

Old Town, Harbors & Ports, Turquoise Waters

One of 1,754 reviews:
"Ciutadella is a beautiful town, with everything in walking distance. The city centre is very pretty, with a character. It is definitely worth spending at least a few hours walking in the narrow streets, visiting the shops. There are a lot of art shops. The Catedral de Santa Maria de Menorca is also worth a visit. Delicious food, every restaurant we tried met our expectations. Very helpful staff at the Tourist Information Centre, too. The port is where the nightlife is, but there are nice restaurants and cafes for daytime, too. Lots of different buses available to get to the beaches, but you should book in advance to be on the safe side, and keep in mind that most of them are not available on Sundays. Overall, Ciutadella is a great location to stay in Menorca, with the island's most beautiful beaches easily accessible via public transport (bus). However, a car is recommended for Sundays or if you want to visit more of the smaller, less heard-of beaches or those on the opposite side of the island."

"Not an overly touristy location like lots of Spain. It felt authentic for the most part with many locals and Spanish holidaymakers. There are many small-medium grocery shops all well priced and wide range of products, within walking distance wherever you're staying. We recommend hiring a car to get around the island more and make the most of beaches out of walking distance. The beaches within Cala en Blanes are also fantastic (Cala en Brut, Cala en Forcat) but more cliff jumping rather than long, white sandy beaches (try Algaiarens and Platja Des Bots only 25 minutes drive). There is a classic strip of restaurants and shops aimed at tourists in Los Delphines which we avoided but tried Voramar Sunset Bar and it is definitely worth the visit!"

"Beautiful villa in a calm neighborhood that is split into several apartments for tourists. There is a common swimming pool, picnic table, hamac, lounge chairs and space to relax. It is perfect as there aren't many guests and they are all very nice. The host was super friendly and accomodating. We went back to the villa before our flight and just relaxed around the pool under the shade - it was perfect! I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for relaxation and calm while being able to access the rest of the island by car. It would also be appropriate for older children (pool isn't fenced) if they are well behaved as it wouldn't be nice to spoil the calm for others. Yummy breakfast too."

"We went in June before it got too busy, it met our needs in that it was peaceful and relaxing, it is a small town so the nightlife isn't what you would be going for, but the restaurants we ate at were decent and we always enjoyed our meals. I recommend eating at Club Menorca at least once during your stay, book in advance to get on the terrace as the scenery is amazing and its perfect to watch the sunset, the food is tasty and the staff were lovely."

"We loved this area. A very peaceful place for a summer holiday. The beach is sandy and big and the water is very clean, the cleanest sea water I have ever seen. The other advantage is that there are no waves and the water remains clear even in the afternoon. And the sea water was very warm, which I liked very much and I swam with pleasure."

Son Parc

One of 273 reviews:
"This is a quiet area on the North coast of the island. All the properties are built within a park, so there is a lot of greenery and the occasional peacock crossing the road. Beaches can be reached on foot but will take 15-20mins walking depending on which one you choose. The park is set 3-4km from the main road to Mahon so a hire car is recommended for getting around the island."

We stayed here for a few nights to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. And it did not disappoint. Our room was lovely- very spacious, came with a bath, and gorgeous sun terrace, which was really lovely- private and great views. Breakfast was included each morning and was fabulous- great selection of foods on offer, with an option to have extras made for you also. Good coffee too. Delicious dinner menu and great wines. We loved the pool area for relaxing and genuinely lazing about and we also enjoyed one of the picnic hamper lunches one day too, that we took with us out on a long walk. Staff are lovely- very helpful and friendly, and gave us some good locations for hikes.

Menorca highlights

Binibeca Town

Binibeca is a maze of narrow, winding streets and whitewashed houses, with architecture reminiscent of both Arab and Mediterranean styles.

Camí de Cavalls Trail

The Camí de Cavalls Trail traces the entire 185 km of breathtaking Minorcan coastline, linking ancient watchtowers, lighthouses and coves.

Fornells Port

Crystal clear waters at this natural port lead to unspoiled beaches and small islands only reachable by kayak or boat.

Cova d’en Xoroi Caves

These caves and terraces are a chill-out spot by day and a thriving club with international DJs by night.

S'Albufera des Grau Nature Reserve

Walking routes around the wild landscape of S'Albufera des Grau Nature Reserve are dotted with viewpoints and bird watching cabins.

Minorca's Lighthouse Route

Minorca’s characteristic lighthouses are dotted around the island’s coast, at some of its most unique and beautiful viewpoints.

Es Castell Town

Spain’s most easterly town, Es Castell is a charming spot to take in the country’s first sunrise of the morning.

FAQs about hotels on Menorca

Unhurried life in unspoilt nature

A beautiful Balearic Island, Menorca (or Minorca) has wonderful beaches, sandy coves and a more laidback atmosphere than its neighbours Ibiza and Majorca. Boasting the world’s 2nd largest natural harbour, its capital Mahon is the centre of the nightlife, with several clubs and bars. However, as soon as you head to one of the Menorca resorts, things start to slow down. Punta Prima along the coast has a lovely Blue Flag beach, while the longest beach at Son Bou on the south coast is lined by protected sand dunes. Much of Menorca’s unspoilt beauty is ecologically important, so it’s worth heading inland from the beaches to explore the mountains. The views from the highest peak Monte Toro are amazing. Also worth checking out are the ‘taula’ – prehistoric megaliths whose origin is a mystery. Another prehistoric monument is the Naveta tomb near Ciutadella, a city centred on its port, partly lined with walls. Fantastic Cala Blanca and Cala’n Bosch to the south have a good range of luxury Menorca hotels available on Booking.com, as does curving Cala Galdana where the sea appears almost green. In the more rocky north of the island, the main resorts are Fornells – a pretty fishing village – and Arenal d’en Castell, home to yet another wonderful horseshoe bay.

Hotel location is great. Just minutes away from the beach. If you are coming by car bear in mind that during beach hours it will be difficult to find the place in the surrounding streets but before 10h and after 19h it is no problem at all. Hotel has nice breakfast and rooms are pretty comfortable with good sound-proofing. Wellness area is very nice (but I think eur 24 for 90 mins per person is a bit too much). Staff is very helpful (especially Marta from the reception desk - if I got the name correctly) and available at any moment to provide any kind of information or help.

Our stay at 3A Ease of Living was fantastic. We loved the beautifully decorated space, which perfectly combined old Spanish charm with quirky vintage touches. Its prime location in Ciutadella allowed us to easily explore and immerse ourselves in the local culture, with charming restaurants and cafes right outside. Rodo, our host, was exceptional, providing recommendations that made our 5-day visit truly perfect. We highly recommend this boutique hotel and the classy destination of Menorca

This was our second stay in the area and we have booked for next year. The locals are friendly and the food is a very good standard. The harbour is lovely to visit and walk round by day or night. Our local go to bar is Tom's bar just off the harbour. Where Guinness is only 5.50 euros. Lol. Cala' n Bosch is easy to get to from Mahon airport and the hire of a car is well worth it.

It has been 40 years since we visited. This time with extended family. 1st week at a property that accommodated 8. 2nd week at the Vista Playa 1. Only one very poor failing in both. Neither property provided good wine glasses for drinking good Spanish wine. Glass tumblers are a bad image. Exception - Vista Playa 1 did provide 2 good wine glasses after our request. One exceptional pleasure was to be accommodated in apartment 0306 with superb views. Many thanks
