My stay at Casa Rural Fuente la Teja was absolutely wonderful — so relaxing and calming, surrounded by nature and just steps away from an observation deck with the most breathtaking sunset views! Mieke and Mark are truly exceptional hosts. They go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable, accommodating every need, cooking delicious meals, and sharing great recommendations for hikes, sightseeing, and activities. They even helped me with a car issue — something I’ll always be grateful for! My room was cozy and inviting, with a balcony overlooking stunning views where I loved reading my book. I slept like a baby. The Casa is also very dog-friendly, which was such a joy. My dog was treated like a guest himself, free to explore and even spoiled with treats — he loved it as much as I did! The saltwater pool, with its panoramic mountain views, was another highlight. Spotlessly clean, with a shower, plenty of loungers, and umbrellas, it was the perfect place to unwind. I also noticed they provide games and toys for children and adults alike. Next time, I’m hoping to return with my kids to share this hidden gem with them. Highly recommended!

We cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay at La Almunia del Valle! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. They remembered our names, checked in on our plans each day, and went above and beyond to help us organize hikes, activities, and dinner plans. Their warmth and attention to detail genuinely set this place apart! The food was incredible! Fresh, thoughtful, and beautifully prepared. Breakfast and dinner overlooking the mountains was a highlight! And the views… absolutely breathtaking! The hotel sits quietly in the hills near Monachil (a quaint town with some great local spots for tapas!), close to some fantastic hikes and just far enough from Granada to feel peaceful without being inconvenient. We loved our stay so much that we actually extended it — and would have stayed longer if we could! This is one of those rare places where you instantly feel both cared for and completely relaxed. Highly, highly recommend. We can’t wait to come back!

We liked everything about this place including that they have parking but we didn't need it because there was parking right in front of the hotel! The breakfast was good and they maker their own churros batter on site! The hotel lobby was decorated for Halloween which we all found fabulous! The gardens were lovely and the hotel is fabulously situated in the middle of the town. Everything was walkable. I would love to go back in the summer to use their fabulous pool overlooking the mountains!

Perfect if you don’t have to travel far.

Perfect if you don’t have to travel far. The snow was fantastic but the skiing can be unreliable. Wind often shuts the lifts; fog and cloud is a big factor that can spoil your skiing. Great resort with decent runs and a nice village with plenty of options for eating, drinking etc., loads of good ski hire shops. But check the forecast before you go.

Güéjar-Sierra is essentially a mountainside village.

Güéjar-Sierra is essentially a mountainside village. It's interesting getting there as the road reminds me of driving in the mountains of Colorado with lots of switchbacks and hairpin curves. The villages up there are replete with too many speed bumps and we found that the Spanish roads have oodles of potholes. But, the drive is kinda fun and the scenery is lovely. It was really nice to be in a place that was not dominated by the sounds of ambulances and other noise as well as light pollution. And I can actually see the stars here. I always enjoy walking around the little villages. There are lots of things to see including many fountains and other water features. I believe that on one day it was -3c, but with the lack of any wind, the village was cold but not frigid. 😊

The most perfect place I have ever stayed!!

The most perfect place I have ever stayed!! I almost don't want to write a review because everyone will want to go! :) This was my second time here, and it has become my sanctuary and my happy place, I plan to return every year if possible. The gourmet breakfast is delicious, with different options available every morning, fresh juices, fresh fruit, and excellent coffee! Dinner is fabulous with excellent service, tasty Michelin level food, beyond expectation! The place itself is perched up on top of the hill very close to a beautiful hiking trail called 'Monachil Los Cahorros' - (anyone can do this trail whether you want to do a shorter or longer route). The hike has hanging bridges, caves, streams, uphill and downhill routes! The most tranquil and beautiful spot you will ever visit, whether its a solo trip like me or with family, friends or a loved one! The most amazing views from the hotel (which is a boutique sustainable hotel) - The bed was an absolute dream, and all the rooms are perfect, with beautiful detail!

Durcal is a very quaint, traditional Spanish town.

Durcal is a very quaint, traditional Spanish town. There are many restaurants and bars and a few shops and a couple of supermarkets and pharmacies. There is also a church in the square. There are almost no vegetarian options except pizza and veggie burgers occasionally available in the area. Also of note is that there is very little English spoken here. Durcal is a very friendly place and a short drive to the mountain range and the town of Granada.

The "Cafe Europa" serves an absolutely splendid 3-course lunch. Pampaneira is walked through in a couple of minutes and makes for some nice pictures, but this is the highlight for us, every time we get here. Other than that you can take a considerable 10km hike all the way up to Capileira and down the other side of the river. This can be shortended by making it down to the river from Bubion. We had a very pleasant hike, partly shadowed by trees. No water source on opposite side, so fill up in Capileira.

Great family mountain but it was WAYYYY too busy when were there. Our dates were from Jan 1 through the 4th so you can imagine this is a busy time....and it was. If you're a beginner then you're waiting 30 to 40 minutes to get on a lift...just brutal. Also, restaurant seating is hard to find and much of it is outside so make sure you are always dressed warm. The fact that some restaurants didn't open until 8pm and needed reservations was also a pain. And no real coffee shops around. The one main one was just as packed as everything else with lineups starting a half hour before it opened and never ended. The online ticket buying process was a nightmare and I couldn't complete my purchase no matter what. So I had to get up at 7am to get in line for the ticket office that opened at 8am....it was cold. Then 8 am rolls around and they don't open the tellers until almost 8:15....grrrrr. Even if you had an online ticket you still had to wait in line to redeem them from their machines at the ticket building...and these aren't available outside of ticketing hours....what is the point of having online tickets if you still have to wait in line to redeem them? Lastly, there are lot's of places to rent equipment....I mean too many. They really should set up one or two places for rentals and create many more restaurants and indoor seating places to dine. I really think the layout of this mountain is done poorly and could be a lot more efficient. Overall the skiing was pretty good, all the lifts seem to be working, the hotel Kenya we stayed at was greatly located and run well and we had a good time overall. I would definitely come back but only when it was not so busy.
