Trip was preplaned . We love London, this trip we were on our own. Our first trip to London was on a tour of England and Scotland. We learned to use the underground and rail systems. Our favorite place to eat is Stephens Pub across the Westminster bridge opposite Big Ben. London has so much to offer.
Slough is yet another melting pot for nationalities living in England. The foods of the world bring people together as do the shopping malls. It is a road connection to go far & wide. Nearby is Windsor with its famous Castle & the Thames river Legoland not far off just a bus ride away. Eton College is almost under the castle walls- just across the bridge. Here all is old England conservation with a different type of shopping & people. Neither place is typical English Middle class but each represents its own kind of modern yet old style England. As Londoners say "you pays your money & you makes your choice" London is easily accessable from Slough by train.
We took the London Tour to visit Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath for a full day trip for £104.00 each and the guide Pete gave us a good history lesson on England from King William era to Queen Victoria era. But nothing can take away the awesome memory of walking into Windsor Castle seeing the royal lifestyle or the phenomenon of how huge blocks of stones can be stacked up with no glue or nail to hold it together, how did the people hinged it up?...who are these people?? So fascinating...Wonderful sights with the beautiful quaint city of Bath...the delicious Cornish pastries at Bath.
My absolutely favourite city in England. It’s simply magical - I could spend days just wondering around the cobble stoned streets, walking the walls or walking along the river. There are lots of great restaurants too and lovely little shops.
The UK's best shopping.lots of history of you walk around the back streets.very diverse restaurants and in the centre of the most scenic countryside in England
Great audio guide provided to explain all the sights in and around the castle. The staff were very helpful getting you in and going around. Good spot to see if you appreciate history and want to learn about the kings and queens of England.
In my opinion, Leeds is one of the best cities in England. It has a superb array of designer and independent shops, great restaurants and fantastic nightlife. It is a busy and vibrant city, with new bars, cafés and restaurants always opening. Leeds also one of the best live music scenes in the North, from Indie to Jazz to World music, there are gigs to suit everybody. I recommend visiting Briggate and the Victoria Quarter for your designer fashion needs, and take a trip up some of the side streets for the indie shops. You are never far away from great bars or restaurants in Leeds, so you can wander to any part of the centre and you’ll find somewhere great. For a bit more culture, visit the Royal Armouries Museum which is only a short walk out of the centre and visit Leeds Art Gallery right next to the town hall. If you’re travelling there by car be warned! The ring road system is the city centre is ludicrously designed so that if you miss your desired turning you have to loop all the way back round the city again! As you can imagine this is very fruatrating, and is only thing I dislike about Leeds. As to be expected, the morning and tea time rush hour traffic is pretty hectic.
I lived in England many years ago and now go back at least once a year. London is one of my favorite cities in the world. Also note for vegan travelers London is rising up to be one of the most awesome destinations for plant-based dining.
The SS Great Britain and the adjacent - included in your admission - museums are a must see. The ship is a stunning piece of living history, lovingly restored and interpreted to please the whole family. Brunel is a fascinating character any way you approach him. Walk the Clifton suspension bridge and imagine hanging over that awesome gorge in a basket as he did! Clifton is the place to stay, scenic walks, pubs, cafes, shops, charming rows of mansions, gardens around every corner and (when the sun is shininhg) massive views. Nobody does "slightly upscale but down-to-earth" better than the Brits. Clifton is simultaneously homey and cool. The GWR is not to be missed. This is a beautiful part of England and the trains allow you to relax and enjoy the countryside. I found the transit systems blessedly user-friendly; but if you're ever confused, just ask your question in the general direction of the nearest human being and you will promptly have all the answers you ever required and more. Love the Brits! Love'em!
Salisbury is an excellent location in southern England. It is close to Stonehenge, Bath, Portsmouth, and additionally has a wonderful Cathedral with Magna Carta.
4 mins from the pier and can be in town center within 10 mins. Located right on the seafront so i was ready for a bracing walk each day along the front and then into town. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice and served quickly at the table. My room was clean and tidy and bright with ensuite shower and toilet. Adequate for my needs and bed was a bit small for me but mattress comfortable. The price was excellent although eaqrly in the season and hotel pretty much full. Hard working family run and i willgo back on my next trip to England.
I cannot exactly describe the fabulous feelings I had. The room has kind of traditional antique and a little royal(ish) vibes. It reminds me of some kinds of English traditional films. I really loved the atmosphere. The shower was so great and the hotel provided more than enough supplies. The staff were very kind. I really want to stay in this kind of hotels again while travelling England. There might be a lot of similar hotels but this hotel has something unique and peculiar ambience, at least it appeared to me that way.
The Cathedral Lodge was a fantastic choice for our one-day trip to Canterbury. The location is perfect and the breakfast was well above our expectations. The tickets to the cathedral were also included in the room price, so are discounts in many restaurants across the town - which were not even advertised when we booked. Tourists who are like us on a budget should really check out this place. It was the best hotel choice we made during our trip around Southern England. Great value! Excellent service!
Having to travel all over the North of England for work, this is by far my favourite hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, professional and more than happy to assist with any queries. The hotel is presented beautifully in an industrial chic design to reflect its history, presumably as an old tobacco mill or similar. The rooms are absolutely enormous with ample facilities and a superb level of comfort & cleanliness. Will absolutely return as and when opportunity arises.
Good location for the Scarborough Cricket Ground, which was the main purpose of our visit. Our room on the third floor (there is a lift if this is important to anyone reading) had an excellent sea view. Bed was huge, much bigger than most hotels in England. Temperature in room was always comfortable, despite it being hot outside. Good selection of pubs and restaurants within reasonable walking distance (try The Scarborough Arms nearby for excellent beer and good pub menu.)
You get a warm welcome at the Union Hotel. The building itself is fascinating with great history. This was the first place in England where the outcome of the Battle of Trafalgar was announced! Our room was furnished with antiques and not only contained a TV but also a settee from which we could watch it. The shower-room was spotless. The shower itself was spacious and the inclusion of a rubber slip mat much appreciated. Breakfast was very good and served very promptly.
Bristol
We had a great stay. This apartment was outstanding. We stayed in several places for our tour around England, and this was our very favourite place to stay. We would definitely come again. Everything was very clean, and well thought of. The place offers everything you need and feels very new. We appreciate the complementary breakfast and the personalised welcome note. And I absolutely loved the dressing table which was very handy to do my makeup and my hair.
We have stayed at the Haven many times over the past 20 years. Primarily because of the location. It commands arguably the best postion of any 4 star hotel in the South of England. The vista is abslutely stunning. The swimming pool is set a contant warm temperature. So you can pleasanty bathe even when the air temperature is chilly. Food service is excellent once you have familiarised with the with the ordering systems.
Weymouth
My son is autistic and they were very understanding and even sweet with him. He has an obsession with Korean omelets with smiley faces and the cook even put a smiley face in his omelet for him. He loved their cat. The room was clean and the beds were just about even with most hotel beds in England. The room was very clean and the tea and coffee were excellent, as was breakfast. Again the owners were incredibly kind.
endless support and fantastic treatment from Moh’d the manager friendly staff very nice breakfast clean close to train station and city center I would like to thank Moh’d for his kind and special treatment providing light snacks as breakfast to take away with us as we had to check out 3 am to catch flight so thank you so much and definitely inshallah coming back to Macdonald Hotels either in England or Scotland
I love everything about this property from the staff to the owners and their security. The rooms are perfect size depending on what your purpose is I highly recommend you visiting this hotel for ever come back to leads to state this is the only hotel I would have to stay at. I highly recommend getting anything with a balcony which there is very few in England and especially in Leeds this is the ultimate one
Leicester
We loved this aparthotel. Everything looked new, hip and cool. The apartment was perfect. Had everything we wished for. The staff was very welcoming. On the groundfloor was a bar and restaurant which blended perfectly with the lobbyarea. The restaurant is run by a seperate company (Black steel). Very good food and the service was good. This stay was one of the height of our 12 day stay in England.
Kemptown, Brighton & Hove
everything about this boutique hotel is amazing. I’ve never seen staff so personable, friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. They helped us get our luggage downstairs to our room, recommended restaurants, served a great breakfast and more. our room was very comfortable as were the beds. in a month of staying in hotels in England, both large and small, this was by far my favorite.
The location is unbelievable. We always sit at the garden pavilion and to have it right outside the door was amazing. Central location to North Laines, Lanes and everything else. Simple 15 min walk to Brighton Station or the Pier. The apartment is beautiful. Split bedrooms for privacy, great kitchen, bathroom and sitting room. Only place we have ever stayed in England with air and heat.
It was our second stay at this hotel and it didn't disappoint again! Amazing customer service, with probably the friendliest receptionist in the whole of England! Great big room, excellent location and excellent food choices and service. This place is also heaven for people with special dietary requirements- soya and almond milk are available for breakfast as is gluten free bread.
Comfy, centrally located, with very reactive and responsive staff. The room was small but well furnished, with some charm and vintage chic. The breakfast was absolutely fabulous, the best I’ve had in England so far. I had booked a room at the rear of the hotel, and could not enjoy the magic view on the sea. If I come back to Penzance, I would definitely return to this hotel.
Cambridge
The townhouse is exceptional, never seen such spaciousness and high building standards in England. Enjoyed the smart house facilities, great sound system and flat TVs all over the place. Fully equipped kitchen with laundry. Well designed backyard that my kids enjoyed alot. It is close to bus station that takes you to city center and 10 min walk to jesus park.
The property is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, clean and stylish and the team working at the hotel were incredible. They were friendly, helpful and made sure that we had a great stay in Stratford Upon Avon. They even gave us tips on what to do in our next destination on our holiday in England. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Spectacular historic hotel ( 500 years of history). Tree in back lawn of hotel is where Shakespeare first kissed Anne Hathaway. Lawn was host to first display of midsummer's night's dream. Four poster bedroom is probably the most romantic room we have stayed in during our world travels. Highlight of our hotels in England.
The hotel and the rooms are beautifully decorated, bringing an old England atmosphere. The Alice theme restaurant is also charming, and the food is nice. My mother likes the Fish&Chips. The location is in the heart of Oxford, with supermarkets, restaurants, and coffee shops around. There is also a museum in front of the hotel.
