Trip was preplaned . We love London, this trip we were on our own. Our first trip to London was on a tour of England and Scotland. We learned to use the underground and rail systems. Our favorite place to eat is Stephens Pub across the Westminster bridge opposite Big Ben. London has so much to offer.
Slough is yet another melting pot for nationalities living in England. The foods of the world bring people together as do the shopping malls. It is a road connection to go far & wide. Nearby is Windsor with its famous Castle & the Thames river Legoland not far off just a bus ride away. Eton College is almost under the castle walls- just across the bridge. Here all is old England conservation with a different type of shopping & people. Neither place is typical English Middle class but each represents its own kind of modern yet old style England. As Londoners say "you pays your money & you makes your choice" London is easily accessable from Slough by train.
We took the London Tour to visit Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath for a full day trip for £104.00 each and the guide Pete gave us a good history lesson on England from King William era to Queen Victoria era. But nothing can take away the awesome memory of walking into Windsor Castle seeing the royal lifestyle or the phenomenon of how huge blocks of stones can be stacked up with no glue or nail to hold it together, how did the people hinged it up?...who are these people?? So fascinating...Wonderful sights with the beautiful quaint city of Bath...the delicious Cornish pastries at Bath.
My absolutely favourite city in England. It’s simply magical - I could spend days just wondering around the cobble stoned streets, walking the walls or walking along the river. There are lots of great restaurants too and lovely little shops.
The UK's best shopping.lots of history of you walk around the back streets.very diverse restaurants and in the centre of the most scenic countryside in England
Great audio guide provided to explain all the sights in and around the castle. The staff were very helpful getting you in and going around. Good spot to see if you appreciate history and want to learn about the kings and queens of England.
In my opinion, Leeds is one of the best cities in England. It has a superb array of designer and independent shops, great restaurants and fantastic nightlife. It is a busy and vibrant city, with new bars, cafés and restaurants always opening. Leeds also one of the best live music scenes in the North, from Indie to Jazz to World music, there are gigs to suit everybody. I recommend visiting Briggate and the Victoria Quarter for your designer fashion needs, and take a trip up some of the side streets for the indie shops. You are never far away from great bars or restaurants in Leeds, so you can wander to any part of the centre and you’ll find somewhere great. For a bit more culture, visit the Royal Armouries Museum which is only a short walk out of the centre and visit Leeds Art Gallery right next to the town hall. If you’re travelling there by car be warned! The ring road system is the city centre is ludicrously designed so that if you miss your desired turning you have to loop all the way back round the city again! As you can imagine this is very fruatrating, and is only thing I dislike about Leeds. As to be expected, the morning and tea time rush hour traffic is pretty hectic.
I lived in England many years ago and now go back at least once a year. London is one of my favorite cities in the world. Also note for vegan travelers London is rising up to be one of the most awesome destinations for plant-based dining.
The SS Great Britain and the adjacent - included in your admission - museums are a must see. The ship is a stunning piece of living history, lovingly restored and interpreted to please the whole family. Brunel is a fascinating character any way you approach him. Walk the Clifton suspension bridge and imagine hanging over that awesome gorge in a basket as he did! Clifton is the place to stay, scenic walks, pubs, cafes, shops, charming rows of mansions, gardens around every corner and (when the sun is shininhg) massive views. Nobody does "slightly upscale but down-to-earth" better than the Brits. Clifton is simultaneously homey and cool. The GWR is not to be missed. This is a beautiful part of England and the trains allow you to relax and enjoy the countryside. I found the transit systems blessedly user-friendly; but if you're ever confused, just ask your question in the general direction of the nearest human being and you will promptly have all the answers you ever required and more. Love the Brits! Love'em!
Salisbury is an excellent location in southern England. It is close to Stonehenge, Bath, Portsmouth, and additionally has a wonderful Cathedral with Magna Carta.
4 mins from the pier and can be in town center within 10 mins. Located right on the seafront so i was ready for a bracing walk each day along the front and then into town. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice and served quickly at the table. My room was clean and tidy and bright with ensuite shower and toilet. Adequate for my needs and bed was a bit small for me but mattress comfortable. The price was excellent although eaqrly in the season and hotel pretty much full. Hard working family run and i willgo back on my next trip to England.
We stayed just one night during an early autumn heatwave which this traditional English hotel -- and England in general -- are not used to, -- i.e., no air conditioning, or even windows that are easily opened. The hotel is excellently located in a quiet suburban area just a mile north of the centre of Oxford, on an easy bus route, and hsplenty of secure parking on the premises if you arrive by car. The staff were very courteous and helpful. Our room was comfortable and very well appointed. Spacious bathroom.
Norwich
The property is located in a quiet isolated area, but within a short distance of some of Norfolk’s best dining experiences! The Hall is full of history and restored to a very high standard. It feels more like visiting family, than a hotel. If bird watching is your thing you will not be disappointed (I was not) To too every thing off the owners source or produce everything locally even down to the homemade washing products!! One of if not the best overnight stays we have had in England!
I need to call Booking.com because I chose not to stay once I saw the room. The accommodations were like a Motel 6 in the states. Not at all what I expect from a hotel in England. A Premiere Inn would be nicer than this. This was my only booking that truly let me down. After seeing the room, I immediately checked out. I was there for maybe 10 minutes, and got no refund. They said because I booked through Booking.com they could not refund me. Would not stay. Will not return.
This historic hotel is centrally located with easy access to the Pavilion Gardens, the central shopping area and the many and varied bars and restaurants. The hotel provides parking permits (2.50 per 24 hours) for convenient parking spaces. Reputedly, this is the oldest hotel in England and so we found our room was splendidly furnished with inlaid antique furniture. We will book again. We visited during the Buxton International Festival, the hotel being an excellent base.
The hotel is in a very central location in Buxton and it is easy to travel to destinations around peak district. The hotel reception looks grand. Food was surprisingly tasty and good value and enjoyed how friendly one of the head chef was communicating with guests during evening service. A and e waiting time are much better than south East England I was in and out within 1 hour, however due to a small area a and e closes by early evening.
It was just as expected … a quaint, older, quiet pub and inn. We didn’t want to visit England and stay in a big franchised Hotel. Comfortable bed. The room included a couch (which would make into a bed). The bathroom was very clean and updated. And all of the staff were helpful and friendly. Gave us some great advise on visiting in downtown Canterbury. And dinner was convenient, just ran downstairs.
The hotel is wonderful. The magic begins right after you check in, when you are handed the keys to the room. But this is a surprise. Must see for yourself. The atmosphere in the hotel is in the style of old England, rich in tradition and architecture. Luxurious interiors are preserved and complemented with modern materials in the style of the 1800s. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
Kemptown, Brighton & Hove
everything about this boutique hotel is amazing. I’ve never seen staff so personable, friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. They helped us get our luggage downstairs to our room, recommended restaurants, served a great breakfast and more. our room was very comfortable as were the beds. in a month of staying in hotels in England, both large and small, this was by far my favorite.
It's rare to find in this corner of England these days, where so many old hotels have been given anodyne, cookie cutter makeovers (all the latest design trends but totally souless and uncomfortable such as The Great House over the bridge or The Bell at Hurley) whereas The French Horn retains it's old style English charm and character. Please don't change it!
Location / walking distance to Metro, restaurants, park, family member's apartment. We bought location (area) at a budget price. Spent rather money on our Graduate. After being in Switzerland, France and in a London Airbnb, we realized that choosing accommodations in England the trade-off between price and comfort has to be very carefully evaluated.
everything,Location in one of Englands most charming historic fishing towns, world traveller with experience of hotels all over the world old, isitrd by aristocracy for over a Hundred years known it all my life,Good enough for Winston Churchill and aristocracy good enough for me.and with booking com the price for me makes it a bucket list,I could live here!
Keswick
The location is perfect, easy, flat 45 min walk from Keswick, right on the water, great view, brilliant staff, after travelling for almost a year this is easily one of the top 3 if not the best Hostel I have stayed in, easily the best hostel in England. The hostel is warm at night, clean and well maintained, especially considering how old the building is.
new and clean property from Jesus college at the centre of Cambridge. This apartment is the finest accommodation during my trip to England, offering a fine kitchen, a lovely balcony. you got the chance to visit some colleges nearby such as trinity, Jesus, Magdalene etc. besides, breakfast here if fantastic! definitely recommend.
Wonderful ambiance of this charming hotel. Food in restaurant was delicious , the best we ate in England. The staff in the restaurant were very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was good with several choices and they happily made lattes. The front desk was very helpful in getting us taxis and giving directions.
Location close to the Cruise Terminal was great. Southampton is a major cruise port in Southern England. The bed was comfortable. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was just okay. It's a bar/cafe combo without much variety. Staff handled an issue with the room well (and seemed embarrassed as well).
Windermere
Location was fantastic. Beautiful view from the living room, especially with the pink sky sunsets this weekend! Apartment really spacious and everything we needed. Lovely little welcome touches like milk in the fridge and snacks which were very appreciated after a long drive from the South of England!
Nice business class hotel with all the comforts and amenities of a modern hotel. Nice functional bathroom, roomy shower, working air conditioner, large-ish room. They have a bar. Breakfast was pretty decent. A welcome respite after all the 'charming' little hotels in England.
The staff/owners were absolutely lovely. They made every effort to anticipate our every need and to make us comfortable. The hotel is adorable. Nice little "extra touches" throughout. What a great stay! This was the highlight of our entire 3 week trip to England.
Leicester
The apartment was well decorated. Facilities generally fine. The owner Mucktar was very responsive and we got in OK. Bed was comfortable, bathroom very good. Slept well enough both nights. On the whole a good break in the journey, coming from northwest England down to Heathrow.
