We absolutely loved our stay at Stella Maris Shore House. Every room offers stunning ocean views - so close you can hear the waves day and night. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, especially enjoyed in the glass-covered patio, which makes even stormy days feel cosy and special. But the real magic here is the people. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, with locals and travellers alike enjoying this little place of paradise. And then there’s Rolf - the owner and heart of the place - whose kindness, humour, and dedication make you feel less like a guest and more like an “old” friend. We’ll be back the first chance we get. Thank you, Rolf and team, for making our stay so special.

A lovely hotel with welcoming warm staff, and a great atmosphere in the bar. Clearly the locals like this place as Saturday night was a cheerful affair with the mix of them, visitors like us and a wedding in the private function room. Our food in the bar was filling and tasty, in fact we had to take half away with us as the portions were so generous! Our room was airy and warm with adjustable heating. Free parking overlooking the bay. Breakfast was a fresh buffet with cooked food and cold food (fruits, cereals etc). Perfect visit, thanks everyone.

We informed the management of the estimated time of our arrival and told them we would get a taxi straight to the facility. When we arrived at the Westport train station we were met by a member of the management in a mini bus. Lovely surprise. When my husband and friend arrived much later that evening the kitchen was closed but they cheerfully reopened it and fed them with a fabulous plate of fresh fish and chips. The food was absolutely delicious and very plentiful. The owners and staff were wonderful, very warm and friendly. The apartment was very pleasant and comfortable. I cannot speak highly enough of the people of this warm and welcoming place. I hope to return there someday and very highly recommend it to people looking for a lovely vacation experience. Thank you again to the owners and staff of the Helm. Westport is a great little town in a stunningly beautiful location.😁👍

The full Irish breakfast was really full and the Eggs Benedict was special. Room was well equipped and extremely comfortable. Curry at dinner was really good. Reception and Bar Waiting Staff are really exceptional for advice on local walks, impromptu glasses repairs and general friendliness. The warm friendly bar waiting staff blew others out of the water. Andrew at the Leisure centre was welcoming and helpful. Great music and a little dance in the bar Saturday evening was a surprise bonus.

The town, the shops, the manners of all motor traffic, they don’t blow you off the road crossings if you are slow in walking due to injury. The people are friendly and shops off good value. We dined in the hotel Wytt for all meals and visited 3 pubs, the town landscape is excellent and Christmas lighting beautiful.

Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.

Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The National Museum of Ireland is just a few minutes drive away. Castlebar is ideally located for exploring County Mayo. The local library is excellent too with very friendly helpful staff who were only too willing to help with a little family history enquiry. We only stayed for one night and had our main meal in Lana, an Asian restaurant. The food was lovely and plentiful. So much so, we didn't bother with breakfast the following day.

Ballina is like most towns or cities now. Outside influences are starting to take hold. The addition of some of the fast food shops and multiple barbers is a manifestation I find worrying. The old charm of the town is not what it was.

There are lovely forest paths behind Cong Abbey that we enjoyed. It was fun to go into the pub/restaurant that was used in the old movie The Quiet Man. A lot of it was filmed in Cong. We really enjoyed John Burke’s Restaurant in nearby Clonbur. It was recommended by our host!

Mulranny is so central to North South East and West Mayo. We visited Achill, did Croagh Patrick and cycled the Greenway. Mulranny itself is so beautiful with lovely walkways and excellent beaches for swimming. Had a local shop well supplied and two main Bars with entertainment on the Saturday night. Westport and Newport are well worth visiting and there is so much more we did not get around to doing.

I like the warmth and friendliness of the people I met, and the helpfulness. Achill Island is very beautiful and because I came by electric car I was delighted to find a new charger near the hotel - a practical point but important for me. Also having a car made getting around easy. If God could be persuaded to hold off the rain next time I visit that would be great
