I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Argentario Lagoon Resort & Spa, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience that exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the friendly and helpful staff made me feel right at home, ensuring that every aspect of my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The resort itself is absolutely gorgeous. It offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and luxurious amenities. The rooms are beautifully designed, very clean, and provide a sense of tranquility that is hard to match. The attention to detail in the decor and the high-quality furnishings added an extra layer of comfort to my stay. One of the highlights of my visit was the spa. It is a true haven of relaxation, offering a wide range of treatments that left me feeling rejuvenated and pampered. The facilities are top-notch, and the serene atmosphere made it easy to unwind and de-stress. Dining at the resort was also a delightful experience. The on-site restaurant serves a variety of delicious dishes, prepared with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Each meal was a culinary delight, and the stunning views from the dining area made it even more enjoyable. A special thank you to Maria and Yoel, whose attentive service and dedication ensured I had everything I needed, making my stay truly delightful. Overall, Argentario Lagoon Resort & Spa is a gem. Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat, a romantic getaway, or a luxurious spa experience, this resort has it all. I highly recommend it and look forward to returning in the future.

The place has a lovely holiday village vibe, with a small supermarket nearby and convenient parking right in front of the building. The lobby area feels a bit outdated, but the upstairs rooms are nicely renovated. Breakfast was tasty, though by 8:30 the selection was already limited. The staff were warm and welcoming throughout our stay.

FAQs about hotels in Argentario

Tuscany's Lush Anchored Island

Linked to the mainland through 2 strips of land built thanks to the skills of sea currents and the Albegna River, Monte Argentario is an island-peninsula in southern Tuscany. Its rugged landscape is covered with lush vegetation and blessed with beautiful beaches, lagoons, and picturesque towns.

During Roman times, it was given to a family that had lent money to the state, which is probably the origin of its name: the Latin word ‘Arganterii’ means ‘money lender’. Spain acquired it in the late 16th century, handing it over to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany after Napoleon’s defeat.

The main town is Porto Santo Stefano, a charming mix between a fishing village and a modern resort. It spans between the sea and the steep slopes, creating a typical Italian postcard. Ferries leave every day for the Tuscan Archipelago from its pier, while some of the best Monte Argentario luxury hotels are located here.

The smaller Porto Ercole still keeps the charms of medieval times, with walls and fortresses, while Orbetello is a picturesque town located in the central strip of land and surrounded by lagoons.

I visited this property a couple weeks back and I have to say the stay was amazing. the tent house was spacious and had all the amenities. The receptionist was very helpful and the overall environment was good, the beach was clean. We had a little incident where we visited Rome and our car was broken into and a lot of our luggage was stolen and we ended up staying the night at the police station in Rome but when we arrived the next day back at the property and it was past our checkout time the receptionist was kind enough to let us stay and take rest and did not charge us extra, in total we stayed there for an extra half a day.

It’s one of a few dog friendly camping sites that are near to a dog friendly beach. It was perfect for me and my two dogs. It was very peaceful and chill. The air con worked beautifully and was a must at this time of the year. Also, there weren’t too many dogs around either, it was very balanced. The beach was not too crowded either, I could easily find a spot where I could swim and chill with my dogs without bothering anyone. There was also a perfect walking place for my dogs around the campsite with plenty of shade.

We loved everything about this gorgeous seafront hotel! From the friendly and welcoming staff, to the exceptional buffet breakfasts and fantastic evening meals served in front the bright blue sea! The rooms are bijou but beautiful decorated in a seaside theme with a soft bed canopy and wide windows that allow you to wake to sunrise over the Mediterranean. We loved it all! We even swam and sunbaked despite the cold water (it’s only Spring) We would highly recommend this hotel for its exceptional value for money.

Albinia town itself we were mobbed by mosquitos, so literally ate our food and dashed back to villa. Restaurant by the supermaket and the beach cafe the best. Porto Santo Stefano was our favourite place to visit and eat. Make sure you pay for car parking on one of the meters. Porto Ecole you can hire boat from for a few hours out on water. Again make sure to pay for car parking.

Porto Santo Stefano was amazing!

Porto Santo Stefano was amazing! An absolutely beautiful, small port town where the water is lined with shops and restaurants. The hills surrounding the town rise steeply from the water and most of the hotels and residences seem to be built up on these hills. I highly recommend the boat tour which was booked for us by Ashley at the Bike & Boat Hotel. It's an all day tour with three snorkeling stops, each stop with food prepared by the captain in addition to the swimming and snorkeling. Wine, soda and water were available throughout the tour. We loved our stay at the Bike & Boat Hotel, which was made even better by the help provided by Ashley.

Orbetello is a sweet town with wonderful shops and cafes and streets to explore. Parking was easy, as we visited in March (off season). We spent a few days in Rome, Florence and Umbria in July. After the hectic pace of Rome and Florence, it was delightful to spend time in Porto Ercole and slow down a bit and really enjoy the beauty and fabulous food of Tuscany. Highly recommend Ristorante Agriturismo Monte Argentario for a lovely farm meal in Tuscany - we went twice. Also Ristorante Il Gambero Rosso in town in Porto Ercole.

I had to be there for work, but Porto Ercole is not a place for a holiday. The village / city is old glory, mostly run down places and other than on the water front there is absolutely nothing to do. The peninsula is mostly for renting expensive villas, but even then I would not go there for a holiday. You will sit in a villa, far away from civilization, far away from the sea, from the beach, so you can sit in the villa, that will be it. In other words, just skip this destination.

This was my first time visiting Porto Ercole, and I have a feeling it won't be the last. There are many things I'll miss, but the house where we stayed is definitely at the top of the list. The view? One of the best you could ask for in Porto Ercole. The location? Absolutely amazing. A few days of sea, sunsets, and slowing down - and now I already find myself looking forward to coming back. ❤️ And when I do, I'm pretty sure it will be to the very same house.

Final remarks on Argentario location overall: in our opinion it’s best visited by boat, so if your expectation is to find long wide sand beaches, they’re not really here. The only alternative is La Feniglia natural reserve, but that implies moving by car hoping to find a parking spot - that is about 10 kms away.
