Excellent location with breathtaking view of the area. It is within a walking distance to the old town. The facility was very clean and the room well equipped. The bed was spacious and comfortable. This is just about the best stay experience we’ve ever had. First of all, the location, the beautiful town of Cortana is a picturesque gem of Tuscany, not very crowded and not far from Florence, Siena and other touristy towns. Our goal was to see the Christmas events in Arrezzo, which we reached by train FromCortana (just two ttrain stops). But best of all was meeting and making friends with the manager owner of the hotel, Sara. What a great human being!! We were running late to check in and she stayed waiting for us until we arrived. When we went to Arrezzo, we did not know what train to take back to the hotel and she gave us directions and information, and even stayed up waiting until we arrived back at our room safely. She met us every day at breakfast and cooked eggs for us, told us the story about the hotel and her family. This was a great experience and we are blessed to have Sara as our new friend.

Cortona is the perfect Tuscan town for a solo traveler like myself who speaks some Italian, but mostly needs to speak English for day-to-day matters during a long (2 month) stay in a foreign country. The train station is nearby, rental cars only about 30 minutes away, shuttle bus service allows for train travel most of the day and even on weekends and access to the town for visitors is fairly easy. The town has a lot to offer, but is not so big as Montepulciano, for example, one can spend a full day exploring on foot and see most all of the sites. Outside the wall, one can explore even further. Market days and medieval events add to the charm, and the cost of living is very favorable. I would not change a thing!

The town is nice.

The town is nice. It is a quiet time of the year, but the merchants we encountered were friendly. The Terme Theia was ok, but the management inflexible when I tried to inform them of a booking error within 24hours of making it they did not reply to my emails, and when I spoke to the they said that once I paid there was no refund or changes. I prefer the Terme sensoriale, but unfortunately they are only open on weekends

My dad, my brother, and I stayed at Agriturismo Villa La Fontina for 8 days, and it was honestly the perfect base for our trip around Tuscany. The Villa is in Castiglion Fiorentino, which turned out to be a fantastic choice. It’s a really beautiful, authentic town that doesn't feel touristy at all. There are plenty of great local restaurants and spots to check out, and since it’s not overcrowded, you get a real taste of Italy. Plus, the location is ideal for day trips—we managed to drive out and see so many different parts of Tuscany easily every day. The property itself is part of a beautiful old Villa that’s been renovated. Everything looks fresh, clean, and modern, but they still kept that authentic Italian charm. The Villa has just four rooms in total, so it feels very quiet and peaceful. The three of us shared one room with three beds, and it was super spacious with a great, large bathroom. The grounds are also lovely—there’s a really nice, well-kept garden right by the house, and then it opens up into beautiful, wild countryside all around. Breakfast each morning was excellent and gave us a great start to the day. But the best part of the stay has to be Valentina, the owner. She is incredibly warm, friendly, and just a lovely person. She genuinely goes out of her way to make sure you have everything you need and that your stay is perfect. Staying here was an amazing experience. If you're planning a trip to Tuscany, definitely book this place. We’d love to come back!

A beautiful Tuscany village, like out of a postcard.

A beautiful Tuscany village, like out of a postcard. Narrow winding streets, a really neat town square- the Piazza Garibaldi- had breakfast there every morning at the Bar Langola. Neat restaurants and shops. Great location, only @40 km from Florence, 200 km to Rome. Easy access to anywhere in Tuscany and the Chiani Valley. I could retire here. FYI, no public transportation, best to rent a car. The streets are beautiful but challenging, drive carefully.

Sarteano is a small, picturesque hilltop town.

Sarteano is a small, picturesque hilltop town. It has a range of shops, bars and restaurants, a castle and a lot of typical winding streets. A good base from which to explore the local sights. While we were there we visited Siena, Monteriggione, Pienza and Montecchiello, Montepulciano and, one of the highlights, Bagni di San Filippo, where you can bathe in warm sulphurous waters.

You need a car. However you can park at the nearby train station & get cheap train travel to other sites. We were there in early June, and already the famous towns of Chianti area were busy. Best restaurant La Tavernetta. Doesn't look much from outside, but if your lucky you can get a seat on the terrace. Great food & staff. 15 min drive to big supermarket in Sinalunga.
