We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and truly enjoyed our experience. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was a pleasant, fresh scent throughout the space. We would especially like to highlight the delicious breakfasts — a great way to start each day — as well as the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. Their hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable. Thank you for such a welcoming and comfortable experience!

We stayed here for 2 nights, as we wanted to go to Carrara for a tour of the marble quarries. The hotel is in a great location, close to the beach with private parking, lovely room with great air con. The restaurant in the hotel is outstanding, but we didn't know about it the first night. The breakfast was excellent and the evening meal was of a very high standard indeed. The food and service in the restaurant was outstanding. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Versilia highlights

Villa Puccini

Giacomo Puccini’s world renowned opera compositions live on in this museum. Outside, rare water birds glide over Lake Massaciuccoli.

Carnival of Viareggio

This seaside city hosts one of Italy’s most celebrated carnival festivals, where masked characters and Papier-mâché floats wind along the promenade.

Pietrasanta

Nearby marble quarries have attracted sculptors and architects for centuries. Their work is displayed throughout the city and Museo dei Bozzetti.

Forte dei Marmi

Luxury boutiques and sensational beach discotheques are a big crowd-pleaser, while charming seaside promenades offer a calming reprieve.

Lido di Camaiore Beach

Fine white sands set before a dramatic backdrop of the Apuan Alps inspire relaxation, while the calm sea is perfect for a swim.

Marina di Pietrasanta

Pinewood forests slip down the Apuan Alps until the landscape gives way to Marina di Pietrasanta’s sandy beaches.

Church of San Pantaleone a Elici in Massarosa

This medieval church’s bell tower rises over the surrounding village. Plain limestone walls conceal an adorned apse and marble triptych.

Hiking and mountain biking near Corsanico

Hiking and biking trails carve down the forested hillsides of this town, making it the perfect spot to embark on an outdoor adventure.

Cecina

Flaky and savoury, this freshly baked flatbread is a local favourite made from chickpea flour and is sold in most bakeries.

The hotel is perfectly situated on the promanade and offered views of the beach . The hotel is also perfectly located for restaurants and beach bars . We arrived by train and is only a 15 min walk from the station . Upon check in the staff were very helpful . The room was fine and was cleaned daily .

Lido di Camaiore was a wonderful surprise and, having visited both Lido di Camaiore and Marina di Pietrasanta, I personally found Lido di Camaiore to be much livelier, especially in the evening. There is a fantastic atmosphere along the seafront promenade, with plenty of restaurants, cafés, bars and shops that stay open until late. We had dinner at Cantina da Bruno, a restaurant I can definitely recommend, and stayed there until around 11:30 PM. Afterwards, we walked along the seafront, which was still full of people and atmosphere. We were even able to buy souvenirs at midnight, and at 12:30 AM we were still sitting outside enjoying an espresso and a cocktail. Even at that hour, the area was lively and there were plenty of people enjoying the evening. Having experienced both destinations, I would say that Marina di Pietrasanta is a little quieter, while Lido di Camaiore is the better choice if you enjoy a lively atmosphere, evening walks, restaurants, terraces and shops. You certainly won’t get bored here. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and would happily return.

We found the town to be a bit dead through the week, almost like we had arrived early. The shops were not open or didn't appear to be. Mind you they are mostly high end designer shops like Prada and Dior, not my thing at all. However at the weekend the town had more people around and the streets were busier. It was not the welcoming Italy we had hoped for. There are hardly any pavement cafes and casual dining for instance pizza and pasta, or coffee and cake places are hard to come by. The hospitality in the town was also poor and they do not appear to be welcoming to tourists. We read a bit about Forte while we were there and it appears this is a place for Italy's mega rich. Hence they don't need to worry too much about English tourists. We could find a couple of places for evening food but they didn't serve until 7.30. We could not recommend the town but the hotel we stayed in was absolutely lovely. The Olympia hotel which offered an amazing breakfast served until midday and they also had a restaurant which served lovely food but not until 7.30. I gather this is an Italian thing, however Florence, Rome and Venice all had places you could eat all through the day which is what we had hoped for in Forte.

Torre del Lago Puccini is truly a unique and special place, full of atmosphere and charm. It is here that one of the greatest opera composers, Giacomo Puccini, lived and created his masterpieces. Today, you can visit the museum in his former villa, where he composed his operas – an unforgettable experience that we highly recommend to all lovers of art and music. The town itself enchants with its beauty – located by a picturesque lake, with a beautifully designed open-air theatre dedicated to opera. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the people are kind and friendly, and everywhere you go you can feel the authentic Italian spirit. On top of that, the food is absolutely delicious – especially the pizza, which is a must-try.We have already had the pleasure of attending two breathtaking opera performances here, and we are already planning our third visit. Torre del Lago Puccini is a place that draws you back again and again – we sincerely recommend it to everyone who loves opera, Italian hospitality, and the beauty of this country.

We visit Massaro every year to rest after leading an aroma–herb group trip. Love this little town with friendly people and agricultural scene. It even has an Ag walk and bike trail past lavender, herb, and butterfly farms and then acre of beautiful lotus flowers. There’s also close access to both beach and spectacular mountains. Have to love a town where the mayor actually walked us to the records department to help us seek information about ancestors from Massarosa. ♥️

Viareggio does have style, particularly in some of the Modernist buildings. There are trains and buses to nearby towns, such as Pisa, Lucca. The main thing we did not like was that all the beaches in Viareggio were private, with payment for hire of deckchairs etc. On holiday we do not spend all day on the beach, but like to sit by the sea relaxing for periods. When we asked a couple of places whether we could hire chairs, umbrellas for a short period they said no, it was 20 euros for the day or nothing. It was pre-season and all the chairs/sunbeds etc were empty.

Very nice way to escape the heat of Florence!

Very nice way to escape the heat of Florence! Lots of people rent bikes and ride along the promenade. The water at the beach could be cleaner. It's nowhere near the "blue" that you see in Sicily or other parts of mainland Italy. But the sand is nice, and you can walk far out in the water without needing to swim. There was free nightly entertainment along the promenade, and it was great to eat outside at a rooftop restaurant. Beautiful sunset.
