This may have been the best hotel I've stayed in. Only 27 rooms and not a bad one as they all face the same direction. From check in with Sunny to check out the whole experience was classy and relaxing. I messaged ahead saying I was vegan and for the two days I was there, I got a specially made vegan breakfast. The room was spacious and comfortable and with a balcony to sit outside and enjoy nature. I used the spa two times every day and it was lovely. The location is amazing set back away from Furano. When the price I paid is considered, it was just incredible.

This was such a sweet, friendly and genuinely heart-warming experience. They picked me up from the bus, which was a lovely and unexpected surprise, and even organised transport for all guests who wished to attend a New Year’s event in Kami-Furano with fireworks and traditional drums. In the morning, they served a ceremonial breakfast, which felt very special. There is clear care and respect for both the guests and the space itself. Rika is sharing her craft and we had lovely talks about the joy of sewing with textiles from old kimonos. I can wholeheartedly recommend this guesthouse.

The ryokan is located in a beautiful valley, close to the bus terminal, to the the ropeway entrance and walking distance from some very beautiful hiking trails. The outdoor onsen is breathtaking and the water temperature is just perfect (around 42 degrees). The breakfast buffet and the evening buffet are very rich and varied (sushi, crab legs, Japanese and western dishes). The quality of the food is really good for a buffet. The Japanese style room was very large and comfortable and so were the beds.

Best ski in ski out hotel in Furano. Breakfast buffet is phenomenal, a must have included in the price. Onsen is big and enjoyable especially after a long ski day. This hotel is big with many restaurants options and you don't feel its too crowded even though it's full house during peak Ski period in January. We love our corner double room layout with fantastic views of the snowy mountains. Highly recommend its the ideal ski resort hotel

There was a lot of love put into the details of the interior. Cute but elevated. Like a hostel but for adults with a lot of extra offers for example spa, breakfast and tours which we unfortunately didn’t have the time to take advantage of. Room was spacious enough, actually quite big for Japanese standards. It had a little area to sit and storage under the bed to maximise space.

Asahikawa feels much more comfortable and relaxed compared to larger tourist cities. It is not overly crowded, but still has everything we needed, including big shopping malls, many restaurants, and convenient facilities. It feels like more than just a stopover city and is worth staying for a few days to explore.

It is a bit of a hike to town but there is a Lawsons about a 10 minute walk , we usually bought dinner , etc from there and ate it in a room at the hotel . I really liked the ski resort , plenty of great runs with something for everyone , almost always skied straight onto the tows as it was March . Had the best view from our room , could watch people skiing from my bed . Will definitely be going back next year for longer .

I went to Wakkanai for two purposes. I wanted to see Cape Soya - the northernmost point in Japan. I ended up taking a taxi to get there which wasn't cheap. I also wanted to ride the train the entire length of Hokkaido and Wakkanai was the starting point. Unfortunately Wakkanai seems to be an economically depressed town.

I stayed in Sounkyo from 8-11th March 2024. Sounkyo is a very picturesque small town. There are Sika deer that come into the town center to eat! The Sounkyo Gorge is impressive with mount Kurodake toweing over the Gorge. Take the Daisetsuzan Sōunkyō Kurodake Ropeway and on a good day you can see a 360 degree panorama of the Daisetuzan mountain range. There is a very good Visitors Center in Sounkyo with very friendly and helpful staff. One of the staff took me on a walk through the deep new powder snow which had fallen the night before. The lady took me just because she loved that area and was pleased I was interested in finding walks to explore. I would love to come here again in the summer and Autumn to see the changing seasons.

We were there on 3rd week of Sep 2023 but somehow perhaps due to climate change, the autumn leaves didn’t feature . So I would recommend 1st week of October to visit. Regardless the Asahidake Ropeway did offer great views and the Sugatame Pond trap walk was most enjoyable with good views.

Nayoro was a pleasant, quiet town. I was only there for 2 full days and I definitely wish I had stayed longer! Cafe Now has excellent service and great cold refreshments for the heat. Sun Pillar Park Nissin was beautiful! The sunflowers were unfortunately not open, but the rest of the park is stunning too. The Brazil Bakery is a must visit too! It is closely located near the station and stocked with delicious Nayoro baked goods. The staff in all the stores were friendly and helpful. I had an amazing time!

I visited in winter mainly to ski.

I visited in winter mainly to ski. The city has made a lovely effort in lighting up streets in the centre of town at night with pretty lights. The skifield at Kamui Ski Links where I skied is nice, good facilities, all well looked after and lovely varied runs. There is a ski bus running up there starting from by the railway station. There are several other skifields in the region easily accessible for a day. The zoo is amazing! It’s a great place to see some of the wildlife species from the local region that would be pretty difficult to see for yourself in the wild. Also very interesting is the privately owned museum of the indigenous Ainu culture. Those local people of hundreds of years ago did very well to look after themselves in the hard climate of Hokkaido, the museum has many objects from their typical everyday life showing how they managed. There are plenty of good cafe and restaurant options in town. The shrine Kamikawa-jinji is a beautiful building in a peaceful forested spot less than a half hour walk from the station. There are beautiful shrines to visit which look inviting but I didn’t have time for them all.

The hotel lobby atmosphere was warm and welcoming.

The hotel lobby atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The concierge and front desk staff were very polite and helpful. The rooms were clean and surprisingly big! We had the view of the forest - it was wonderful to look at when it snowed. The ski area is just beneath the hotel which made it very convenient to access. The buffet breakfast was generally good - slight variations of food options but could be better given that this is a big hotel and for what we paid for accommodation (we had better buffet breakfasts at other smaller hotels in other towns/cities). We had difficulty finding a parking space (could it be due to the Dec peak period?) and perhaps we were unfamiliar with driving during the winter season - it was pretty challenging to manoeuvre and park with all the ice sludge, sleet and snow in the carpark. Overall, it was still a very great and wonderful experience and stay!
