Good welcome. Very efficient staff, smiling and speaking English. Impeccable cleanliness. The floor of the room and bathroom are impeccable. The sheets and towels are immaculate and smell good. The cleaning service cleans the room, changes the sheets and towels and gives 2 bottles of water every day. Very Quiet. Free morning time coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby. Shared microwave in the lobby. Reservation of a tuktuk to go to the train station, the driver was on time. Perfect. I highly recommend.

The grounds were beautiful and quiet! It was a breath of fresh air from the city. It was a little far from a lot of the attractions in the main part of the city - but definitely worth staying at for a portion of your time while you are in Vientiane I loved sitting on the patio and hearing the birds. The room was very clean and comfortable.

The hotel, once big, modern, well-equipped and expensive, is still big and not that cheap. There were enough facilities for me, however. And the staff is perfectly trained, which makes every small talk a pleasure. The breakfast is plentiful, with made-to-order soup, and tasty. I would definitely recommend it to anybody.

I went to Vientaine to renew my Vietnam visa, as so, it was very effective. But more than that, it was a great place as well. I had an injury just before i went there, so I wasnt as mobile as I would have liked, but I managed to hobble down a kilometer or so to the the Mekong river, and gaze accross at Thailand! Get a multiple reentry visa if you want to visit it! (over the "Freindship bridge", just down the river) Vientaine itself is quite laid back, less scooters and honking than Vietnam, but the population is much lower as well. People were great (all over se asia in fact). There are conveinience stores for most things, but also the odd mall dotted around. Dont expect to be able to find everything though. Huawei and Xiomei are banned in UK, so it was refreshing to see them here. Overall, a great place to visit!

The promenade / Walking Street along the Mekong is fabulous.

The promenade / Walking Street along the Mekong is fabulous. There are public performance venues, places for kids to play, numerous shops and restaurants, large sculptures of the local fish. Sunset along the river glints off the chrome railings. Lots of fitness activities and joggers. Don't miss the Mut Mee Garden Restaurant (and Guest House} right along the Mekong. The owners are just a delight and a wonderful resource. Great vibe! The city punches way above its weight for a city of its population.

(I also visited Luang Prabang which I found to be spoiled by the numbers of tourists). Vientiane was not so crowded with visitors, but turned out to be a very pleasant place to visit with lots of things to do and keep one entertained. There are agencies that sell local tours, bus & airline tickets etc. The night market is a bit of a let down as most of the stuff in it seems to be Chinese tatty goods, but I did actually buy several small things there which were useful. The night food market is a must visit place. Bustling and a huge variety of comestibles on offer. In town. Ask for directions or type into Google Maps. Take the lido along the Mekong for a leisurely evening walk to watch the sunset over the Mekong and also try a seafood dinner from the numerous restaurants that line the road. The quality of the fish and seafood on offer is surprisingly good. I ate breakfast in the hotel (it was included) but otherwise ate & drank in bars and restaurants in the town and along the river. Beer is cheap and the Lao food as to be expected. There are plenty of European style restaurants as well as Lao ones (& Korean, Indian, Thai & Vietnamese ones). On the river it's possible to pick up a Thai mobile signal; which can be useful if your roaming is not working in Laos but does in Thailand.

Sleepy small town by the river, relaxing if you come from a large city like BKK or VTE. Rent a bike and take a tour along the river. Don’t forget to visit the spectacular Buddha park (sister to the Vientiane version). It is a good stop to relax a few days on your way to / from Laos.
