We recommend this place to those who want a lot of peace and quiet. This place is completely managed by an individual. It is very nice and clean. We stayed for one night. The rooms with a very nice breakfast were very clean. Everything was perfect. The beach is within walking distance so you have a way to go. We recommend this place to spend your holiday happily.

We stayed here in 2017 and it made such a positive happy impression that on this return visit we were determined to fit Sunrise hotel into our itinerary and it didn't disappoint! Super room Very comfortable bed Bed prettily decorated on arrival Superb pool Lovely sea for swimming Really nice food The best egg hoppers I've had this time in Sri Lanka and we lived and worked in Sri Lanka 2005-2010 so I've had alot of egg hoppers in my time. We were in need of some rest and relaxation after a lot of visits to former students and former colleagues and Sunrise was perfect. We had a lovely time.Thank you for letting us have a late check out. Much appreciated. If we ever return to SL we'll come back to you.

Amazing pool, Adil the resident manager was truly exceptional. The night time lagoon boat ride to hear the singing fish was amazing. The fish eagle family that live in a tree by the hotel was incredible. A great place to stay!

awesome place with extraordinary service. the garden pavillon was great it had a spacious living/sleeping room and outdoor bathroom which was still sheltered. the beach area is a perfect spot to relax and swim in shallow ocean or watch the sunset. pool is great too and very clean. for lunch and dinner you can order a la carte, if there’s enough occupation of rooms there will be buffet for 6k LKR. special thanks to our attentive waiter Gehan!

The location of the hotel is perfect and the beach in front of the hotel was amazing. The staff was very friendly, helpful and very thoughtful in every manner. The staff were paying attention to everything small thing which was very impressive. Special thanks goes to Mr Dammika the Manager for organising everything so well and also Mr Munas for his excellent service.

I had a truly wonderful stay at Giman Free Beach Resort. It was an amazing place to relax with a beautiful view of the ocean. The room is huge and very comfortable. The seafoods are delicious. The beach is lovely and great for relaxing and swimming.

The beach is lovely and great for relaxing and swimming. It is a safe beach for children and people who are not great swimmers as it is calm when we visited in August. The only thing that I was not keen on was it was difficult to find any shops nearby if you wanted to purchase drinks or snacks. We also did not find any restaurants on the beach - all seem to be in the back blocks. It is a very quiet area which would suit many people, however, if you are looking for a party time at night forget it.

Batticaloa is very good city, peaceful, less traffic, sort of more rural touch as compared to Colombo. People are also very cooperative and helpful in all ways. Its a small town. The beach is also very neat and clean. There are many local restaurants and hotel. We can find good food there.

Kalkudah is one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka!

Kalkudah is one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka! The water here has an amazing emerald colour and it is very clean, transparent. It is a very long and beautiful sandy beach with a free natural spirit, with hardly anyone around. We enjoyed swimming almost all the day! No tourist attractions but some restaurants like Laya Waves are and Swiss Cafe on the shore are the options. Kalkudah works fine for yoga, meditation, walking along, etc. There are some cows and their manure in some spots, but it is better than plastic garbage. Some days the waves were bigger than Passikuda, but no corals on Kalkudah. Comparing to Passikuda we liked Kalkudah much better. Passikuda is over crowded with a long chain of luxury hotels and is not as beautiful. Anyway if anyone is coming with children Passikuda has shallow waters, as well as some tourists attractions. In any case, on Kalkudah one can dig a hole in the sand for children, where the ocean water will come, while making the natural baths that way.

The beach and water are both exceptionally clean and pleasant. I enjoyed daily, multiple walks along the beach and swimming in the ocean. Since I was there to relax, I stayed and ate at the hotel.

Batticaloa was warm and humid, but that is more than made up for by its breathtaking beauty and abundant seafood. The town is exceptionally clean, surrounded by water, and radiates a serene charm. Pasikudah, in particular, took our breath away. With its pristine beaches and tranquil waters, it’s nothing short of amazing—a true gem on the eastern coast.

Overall, it was a great experience.

Overall, it was a great experience. We found that the buffet items for dinner were repeated over the 3 days. Try to vary the dishes. We had to be after the housekeeping staff to get our room cleaned and get fresh linen. That was a bit disappointing.
