Marrakech has a great vibe.
Marrakech has a great vibe. It was a lot easier to navigate our way around than we expected, and far less hassle from shopkeepers and restauranters than we expected. People were friendly and fun. We took a tour on day one, which helped - as we became familiar with major sights and this made it so much easier when we went exploring the next day by ourselves. Driving was fine - we've driven from Tarifa to Marrakech via Meknes and El Jadida. On arrival we checked in they told us they would let us know if the room was ready! We waited two hours ordering two lattes in the meantime that definitely weren't lattes more like sugary coffee water with no milk we then went to check an they took us down there was no sun lounges on the cabin we booked which is advertised in the photos there was building work going on in the cabin behind us so we asked to get some loungers brought down so we had something to enjoy the sun in! Considering we paid £200 we waited maybe an hour before anyone came down there was cigarette butts around the pool that we had been checked into on our private room neither me nor my partner smoke so was dissapointed as we hate this. They then came down an told us to move cabin so we moved to the one in front hurrying to get our stuff back in suitcase and down to the second room forgetting some of our belongings we then go back to check if we left there an gone (someone had collected them an not informed us even though they literally moved us in the 10minute period so took some of our belongings to reception without telling us). Our new cabins half the decking had collapsed and fallen through and been covered up with a rug 3 floor boards we're sticking in the air that I tripped and hurt my ankle on. The new cabin had a bath with no bath Matt and no bath plug so it was a weird bath with a hand held shower which is difficult to wash in! We didn't really understand. The next day we had hairs in our food that we ordered I informed staff an they replaced the food I noticed another hair in the second food an couldn't be asked to complain again also the tea in the morning tasted like it had salt in! Either they didn't like us or the attention to detail really isn't there. Marrakech is an assault on your senses.
Marrakech is an assault on your senses. It's loud, chaotic, colourful and welcoming. Beware of the bikes that fly through the Medina. It's best to walk as close to the street sides as possible and be prepared to move fast. You will do more walking than you think, comfy shoes are a must. The food is delicious; we didn't get to sample the street food but every stall was crowded of an evening. We ate at Al Baraka restaurant on our first night; a chicken and olive tagine, a veggie tagine, cous cous, olives and bread. It was exceptional and not expensive. We had a desert excursion on our second day and again had a delicious tagine. Our third night dinner was at our Riad and excellent too. Our only bad experience was one night in the Market Square. My friend had a guy brush past her three times trying to find a pocket. We made eye contact with him and he scuttled away. The Souks are an experience not to miss. We didn't feel hassled and haggling was fun. Again, so many sights and sounds. What has to be remembered is that Marrakech is still being rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of '23. There are damaged buildings and rubble and a building site to the side of the Square, but what you feel is that you're walking in the footsteps of an ancient culture.
