Marrakech is such an interesting city. Of course the square and the medina are the main attractions and are great fun but there are also a number of terrific small museums such as The Orientalist Museum in the medina, and parks to explore. The old city has interesting architecure to look at as we were walking around. We also visited La Marmounia Palace hotel with a wonderful garden and fabulous building. There is a great handicraft centre separate to the medina and the Marjorelle Garden and the Berber museum are stunning. I would recommend to go early as it does get crowded. You need to book ahead.
Marrakech is magical and exhausting. We have been there previously but it is changing. This time we went to the museums and garden of the Majarelle and they were all heavenly. We also took a day-trip to the Agafay desert and Imlil, which was very rewarding. And we went to a spa/hamman called the Kosyspa, which was excellent. We went to a fish restaurant in Guerliz. We ate tanjiah off the Djmaa al Fnaa. And we cooked for ourselves. We used the very reasonably-priced taxis to get around. Next time I would ensure we agreed on prices in taxis before starting journeys - it's easy to be ripped off in Marrakech -
I know that a lot of tourists go to Marrakesh, but I think it is a great place to go to get the flavor of Morocco. There is a lot that is accessible. The only problem I find is that the taxi drivers way overcharge and I find it rude. Other than that people are very accommodating and nice.
Marrakech was an amazing place to visit. We had initially booked to hike Mount Toubkal but due to flights, we ended up staying a week. The first half of the week we stayed in the delightful Al Fassia in Aguedal. This was beyond superb. Everything about this place was perfect and the food was out-of-this-world amazing. From here we went on our trek and stayed in the gorgeous and traditional View Point Raid. Service and decor was sublime although it wasn't the same quality as Al Fassia (nor was it expected to be). When we returned unfortunately our final 4.5 star "spa" hotel was a dirty hovel. Despite being sold as a luxury stay by Booking.com, Villa Amira et Spa was at best a 2 star offering where service, cleanliness and even the option for food and drink (we were told we needed to get a taxi to the nearest Carrefour if we wanted a bottle of water and cola) where nowhere to be found. Recommended activities - Hiking Mount Toubkal (with Atlas Travel & Much Better Adventures) Cycle Tour of Marrakech - although rather hariy at times! Spending time in Jemaa el-Fna Les Bains De Marrakech - we did the four hour treatment booked several weeks in advance! Bahia Palace - absolutely stunning We also did the YSL gardens, it was okay, would not rush back. Seemed over hyped. Food - Al Fassia in Aguedal - Lamb Shoulder and selection of finest salads -OMG amazing!!!! El Fenn - Book at least a month in advance, but was also delightful Dar Dar - Rooftop bar in the Souks when a great menu - I also recommend booking. Kosybar Marrakech for a brilliant sunset, although the food portions where rather small on this occasion.
People are friendly and walking around is safe. Local food is very good. You must try maroccan traditional meals and famous mint tea. We dislike the treatment of animals especially poor donkeys. Also cats on the streets looked malnourished and sick.
Visiting the three valleys outside Marrakech is awesome the waterfalls and lunch in Ourika valley is lovely, the souks of the old medina is a must, experience the authentic Moroccan culture by staying in riads.
Medina, Marrakesh
Not only is this riad stunningly beautiful, but the included breakfast and staff are top-notch. Their coffee was the best I had in Morocco during my 9-day stay. This riad is also quiet and peaceful; an oasis from the chaotic movement in the nearby souks. Their airport shuttle from and to RAK was convenient and punctual. If you want a good value for a beautiful riad in a decent location, this is definitely the one for you.
