We were welcomed late at night in the pouring rain by staff who provided a passcode for the room. Cozy, clean and well kept room. Very quiet, and nice place to stay. Also laundry and pool on site. There are convenience stores and restaurants in the area as well. Would recommend and stay there again.

We stayed in the Miramar area all weekend.

We stayed in the Miramar area all weekend. The people are the sweetest. We ate at small restaurants and talked with the owners/servers who made us feel welcomed. Beach was amazing! Clean, clear water great for swimming. We got around by Uber (if you take Uber, please note that you have to walk across the street from the airport to the OXXO for pickup as Uber drivers oftentimes do not have permits to pick up at airport. There are taxi drivers available also).

It is a good option for traveling between Central Mexico and...

It is a good option for traveling between Central Mexico and Texas - or other points in the U.S. It is less hectic than Monterrey, but still has all the food and hotel options you would want. The scenery around the city is also beautiful, and there are fewer big rig trucks driving through that part of Tamaulipas.

Aside from taking personal security seriously, the location seem safe, staff is willing to advise best options for food and moving around. The fact that they provide a mean for local transportation makes all the difference in the world. I parked my car and used their service. My experience was a safe trip but not trying to explore as other cities. As long as you take the usual precautions of a city tagged as insecure, you must remember that there are nice people all over the place and they want to make you feel at home. That is what I liked best. How people always had a smile and were willing to make you feel safe and comfortable. The issues I had at the hotel, were minimal and usually happens ( You don't want to be part of that statistic) but those issues did not last too long either before they got fixed.

I was told once I was there that like any other City, there are good areas and bad areas. I was also quite recommended to not go clubbing on the nights. Apart from that, during the day we went to restaurants and even walked on the streets and the food was great, and we didn't see or felt any danger. I believe Matamoros is a place where you go to do what you need to do, stay a few days, and then come back. At least at this point in time. We didn't visit it any beaches, we did try awesome seafood.

Tampico has grown so much.

Tampico has grown so much. It has a very nice beach and is pretty. You would not be disappointed. If you like seafood, you would get fresh seafood at almost every restaurant you go. Tampico has nice restaurants and places to shop.

I have never encountered anything disturbing there. more druggies and tranients where i live than what i see walking around Matamoros . Street light in El Centro .and having street signs make it easy to find places . nice parks and historical places honoring Texas and US , Mexico relations over the centuries , Museums , Galleries and Murals and Art , The streets were clean.
