This place is magic! So much genuine hospitality and care in wonderful, tranquil nature. Francisco came to pick us up from the bus and waited for an hour because the bus broke down. We arrived to wonderful dinner, made from ingredients grown on his farm. The next day we explored the Somoto Canyon, which was amazing. Returned to more wonderful meals and hanging out with all the cute animals which are all part of the family. It was our highlight in Nicaragua!

Lovely stay with Juan and his family. This place is really a home stay and not a hostel, which was a pleasant surprise for me. I had tremendous fun jumping and swimming down Somoto Canyon with Juan on his tour. Delicious (and inexpensive!) meals by his wife. I extended my stay an extra night it was so pleasant. Cool air in the evenings, and warm during the day. Far enough off the highway to barely hear the trucks going by. Great WiFi to watch Netflix. What a wonderful introduction to Nicaragua this was!

From the moment we arrived at Hostal San José, we were greeted by three adorable dogs who welcomed us with pure canine love every time we came and went. They truly set the tone for the warmth and care that surrounds this special place. Emir is an exceptional host who goes above and beyond to make his guests feel at home. His breakfasts are absolutely fantastic - delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and the perfect way to start each day. But what impressed us most was his genuine willingness to do everything possible (and seemingly impossible!) to ensure our comfort and happiness. He even allowed us to use his personal refrigerator, which was incredibly helpful and just one example of how he treats guests like family rather than customers. The entire hostal is surrounded by an atmosphere of care and coziness that makes you never want to leave. We genuinely enjoyed every single minute of our stay. If you're looking for authentic hospitality, a comfortable place to rest, and a host who truly cares about your experience, Hostal San José is the perfect choice.
