The location of the place is very nice, and also the look and location of the cabins next to the sea. The cabins are well equipped with kitchen stuff, microwave, dishwasher, coffe maker, tableware, etc. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel and the islands in front are very nice with beautiful houses. The place has a pool, sauna, store so you can buy groceries, and a restaurant (but was not open during my stay because of the season).

Kristiansand is a beautiful and peaceful city.

Kristiansand is a beautiful and peaceful city. The people were generally very polite, kind, and helpful, and the city itself felt clean, safe, and well-organised. I appreciated how calm it remained even over the weekend, not loud or chaotic. There is plenty of sightseeing, lovely architecture, scenic coastal views, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to enjoy at a slower pace. However, my experience at Kristiansand Airport was extremely disappointing when trying to travel internationally. I would strongly recommend, if possible, flying or travelling to Oslo first for international departures. The check-in staff appeared poorly informed regarding visa procedures and were unwilling to properly review my valid documentation. The interaction was stressful, dismissive, and at times felt unnecessarily hostile. As a result, I missed my flight, the last flight of the day (only 6pm), and had no practical options at the airport. There were no main airline offices to escalate the issue to, no lounges, and no real facilities to stay comfortably while trying to resolve the matter. I had to book an extra night at a hotel and reorganise my travel entirely (was compensated afterwards by KLM as it was then verified that the denial to board was unjust) The following day, I flew to Oslo and completed my international journey without any issues, which highlighted how much smoother and better equipped larger airports are for these situations. So overall: Kristiansand as a city: highly recommended. Kristiansand Airport for international travel: I would think twice.

I never heard about Mandal before, and I had not prepared for our stay well, but I really enjoyed my 2.5-hour walk around the city. We also went to a beach, but just to walk as it was cold that evening. Certainly worth better preparation if you want to combine sightseeing and hiking in one place.

Grimstad is a charming little town with a lovely seaside atmosphere, nice views, and a pleasant marina area. It is definitely worth stopping by, especially if you are travelling along the coast. However, for a longer stay, the town felt quite limited in terms of attractions and things to do. The restaurant scene was also rather disappointing. The only place I would really recommend was Marina Bar, mainly because they served local fish and the food felt more connected to the region. The shops were cute and had some lovely items, but the prices were extremely high, probably due to the lack of competition and the town being aimed more at wealthy tourists. In nearby Arendal, similar things seemed to be at least 30% cheaper. Grimstad also felt more oriented towards Norwegian visitors than international tourists. In many restaurants, the menus were only in Norwegian, which made things a bit less convenient. Overall, it is a beautiful and charming place to visit briefly, but for a longer stay I think there are better options nearby.

My phone has no Wi-Fi couldn’t get the code. No front desk. We had to call in long distance to get a hold of someone. A guy was nice enough to help us out. We ate out at the sushi Asian restaurant, I had a refried rice. It was real good. We walked the trails which is hilly but enjoyable looking out at the ocean. We saw a big boat going by. It was a good day, we walked 14,000 steps!
