The owners, Magne and Hege, are phantastic! Right at the arrival we had a car issue and they didn’t hesitate to assist us finding a garage and even accompanying me to the garage just before busy dinner time. The next days we had such an enjoyable time in the gjestehus thanks to their hospitality. delicious food was prepared in the evening and dessert was served in their beautiful garden. After dinner they stayed together with several guests in the garden having drinks and nice chats and lot’s of laughs. The Gjestehus is located very conveniently for many outdoor activities. We enjoyed the stay a lot. Tusen takk!

During a business trip, I managed to squeeze in a very brief visit to the beautiful Telemark region. It was a wonderful surprise. The apartment was actually a chalet in the mountains above Dalen, large enough for more than six people. Cozy, quiet, traditional, and secluded, it had a ground floor and a spacious attic. Even though it was June, we lit the wood stove and enjoyed the chalet, which also has a veranda perfect for breakfast. Just a short walk away was a very convenient 24/7 grocery store. The hosts were incredibly kind and pleasant; we talked with them a lot

A gorgeous period hotel that has been beautifully maintained in all of its historic glory. Tastefully furnished room looking over gardens and fjord - with a 'welcome' carafe of Port! Warm and welcoming staff, and the late evening 'parlour-room' talk on the hotel's history just excellent. A real bonus was being there on the same day that the historic steamer 'Henrik Ibsen' arrived in Dalen for the first visit of the season - complete with welcome speeches and a band! Excellent breakfast with table service; i.e. not the usual self-serve buffet as is norm at other hotels. Highly recommended.

Very kind and friendly staff. They made sure that I was able to get dinner at the restaurant before it closed, which I was most grateful for. This hotel was an oasis after hiking all day!

Really nice, cozy, clean and well organised place with great and helpfull people. They offer free use of canoe and boat. The shower is free and limiter only by your decency. Location is great and the rules are clear. We really enjoyed the stay.

We went to Fyresdal because it was the birthplace of my mother’s father. We were able to connect with a local that helped to find the location of my family’s farm.
We enjoyed a stroll through the cemeteries to find family grave sites.
The only thing that would have made it better would have been to connect with family members!
If you're planning a longer trip, look beyond Fyresdal and set off to explore the whole country!
