We are very happy with everything at this accommodation—the friendly staff, the kitchen and bathroom, the breakfast, and the travel advice. They make the best waffles in the world! We saw walruses from only about 3 meters away, as well as seals, belugas, puffins, and even a polar bear from a distance! And, of course, the most beautiful snow-covered mountains and sea views!

Fantastic stay at this Longyearbyen apartment! Perfect location—close to town with stunning Arctic views. The place was clean, warm, and well-equipped (reliable Wi-Fi, full kitchen). The host was responsive, provided clear check-in instructions, and offered helpful local tips. It made our Svalbard adventure truly special. Highly recommended!

Longyearbyen is the most northern town in the world...

Longyearbyen is the most northern town in the world accessible via regular commercial flights (800 miles North of the Polar Circle), it has a unique balance between being "a frontier town with a long history of whaling and mining", an ideal departure point for treks, hikes and tours, and still providing the comfort of "mainland Europe" (with excellent hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping, safety, provisioning,...). As tourism is the main income for this community, most of the tour operators are coordinated via the local tourist information center/website, for a very wide range of possible adventures ranging from short (3 hours to 6 hours) hikes, sea tours, kayaking, dog sledding, ATV or snowmobile trips, etc.. to multi-day mini-expeditions (by sea or land) While being "at the top of the world" (800 miles North of the Arctic Circle), Longyearbyen never gave me the impression of being that remote (as all "mainland Europe luxuries" are available), and yet, it *IS* remote, very remote. I stayed for 2 weeks in the late summer (2nd half August), and we had anything from lovely sunny days, to 10 cm of snow in the morning. So be prepared with proper clothing (even in the summer), and more so, in the winter...

Barentsburg is a charming little town and somewhat off the tourist track: but it is worth spending at least two to three days because it has some very unique features. Hostel Pomor has excellent value for money: the bar/restaurant in Hotel barentsburg is excellent and cosy: the staff is very friendly and helpful

It is my 5th year visiting. I love the place. If you like snowmobiling, go in March and April. The nature is majestic. The food is varied and of very good standards considering it is close to the North Pole.

This was our 2nd visit to experience the polar night this time. We love this town. It’s in a spectacular location has all the facilities you need, including great shops and restaurants (Skinboden, Fruene, Kroa, Stationen etc.) The Svalbard Museum is a real highlight. Another great aspect is the contrast between the main town centre and Nybyen, further down the valley. It’s a bit quieter there. The town is really well set up for booking adventure activities, such as dog sledding, snow mobiling and guided hikes in the surrounding mountains. You can do this in the Visit Svalbard office in the Main Street. All in all, a fabulous and charming place to stay.
