An extremely pleasant boutique hotel, very well designed for both enough privacy and interaction with other guests (very friendly atmosphere, I may add). The staff was wonderful and very helpful with suggestions about events (like a huge merchants’ and farmers’ market), restaurants and places to go to. The breakfast was simple but with all the needs and enough variety for a sustainable morning meal. The cosy atmosphere was really appreciated. A very well-run place indeed 😊. The large backyard lawn with the swimming pool (small as it was) was a very relaxing place to lounge, and enjoy a drink or a simple sandwich. We really enjoyed our stay. Its location is perfect to visit the centre of Amarante, a very charming town indeed.

It was incredibly clean and light. Very comfortable. The help from a very kind gentleman in the breakfast room with tea in our room( we English!) was over and above his duties whilst the breakfast was superb. Wonderful village on the Douro and wished we could have stayed longer.

A truly magnificent hotel! Stunning views, a cozy and elegant atmosphere, beautiful rooms, and an incredibly friendly and attentive staff. We were pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful gifts and compliments from the hotel. The cuisine is absolutely fantastic! Special thanks and great respect to the chef — every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and tasted exceptional. We celebrated our wedding anniversary at the hotel, and I couldn’t be happier. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. We enjoyed excellent wine (with special thanks to the sommelier) and had a wonderful, relaxing time at the spa. Our stay couldn’t have been more perfect. Our hosts were so kind and caring we felt like they had become our friends. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. The breakfast offerings were delicious and we had home cooked four course dinners both evenings that were very satisfying. Our hosts arranged a winery tour for us that we greatly enjoyed.

The pictures do not do it justice. This property and the surrounding area was JAW DROPPING! I saw one of the best sunsets of my life right from my room. The sun dipped behind the mountains bathing the surrounding valley and vineyards in mango orange, it was absolutely beautiful. The quinta itself was so lovely with lots of walkways to take in the fresh air and the surrounding landscape. There was a little waterfall, a lake, and some swings around the property. This is a place you go to relax and refresh your mind. The size of the room was really nice and breakfast had plenty of options. The restaurant is also really good! I had a wonderful steak with some of the wine from the quinta. And I loved the wine so much I bought bottles for loved ones. Everything was really chic and beautiful. I would definitely come back!

Marta served us your famous port wine upon arrival. she gave us helpful with suggestions re sights to visit. we enjoyed the full view of the Duoro River from our balconies of our premium deluxe rooms. your restaurant staff were friendly, for example, Bruno Ribeiro, Justin Timberlake, lookalike, service's was attentive and responsive. we enjoyed our meals. breakfast was delicious as well. the rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable. bathroom was modern and spotless. towels were soft and white. free indoor parking was secured with easy access. the location is private and serene. highly recommend.

The service has been consistent over the years, the team really does love their work and their job, you can tell from the passion and warmth they serve. Louis - one of the OG sommeliers/manager and his colleague were fantastic - trying to recreate the best steak I've had at their property over 3 years ago. We say that time changes everyone, but I'm so glad to see that Six Senses remains exceptionally well run ~ please don't ever change that part! Also had a really enjoyable and dare I say life altering Osteopath Massage session - learnt a lot from my body and Lorenzo really did make my spine feel looser. Thank you!

The staff in all areas of the hotel were pleasant, efficient, informative and very happy to help in anyway possible. The hotel is beautiful and the view over the river is beautiful. The breakfast was lovely and we had dinner in the hotel one evening which was wonderful. The other night we ate in a local more traditional restaurant which the hotel booked for us and was a good choice too. Pinhão is lovely and the hotel was an oasis of calm after a busy stay in Porto.

We had the most wonderful suite for our 3 night stay - spacious and beautifully furnished with lots of little extras. And a magnificent view of the Douro River from our room and private, tree shaded patio with a little pool to cool off in. This is quite a busy little town, as it seems to be the biggest place on this stretch of the river. There are plenty of facilities, including several supermarkets. The best part of the visit, for us, was a half-day cruise down the Douro. There are several options, one that we chose went to Pinhao and back and included lunch on board.

Nice and modern hotel with a relaxing atmosphere. Nice restaurant with a view on the hill. We also enjoyed the indoor heated pool. The hotel is located in an area of cheap apartment buildings and the surroundings are not enjoyable. Seen from the outside, the hotel is also ugly, except from the outside swimming pool area.

The location is perfect for visiting the wineries. We thought that an overnight was plenty of time but that depends on how many wineries you want to visit. An olive oil museum tour at D'Origem was great, especially for a family, because they gave a tour and then bread to try with olive oil, honey, and 3 different kinds of wine (or port-I can't remember). The solar boat tour was terrific, too. Couples may want to stay longer if they want to see several wineries. Beyond that, the town itself is really run down. So worth staying for access but don't expect to be walking down beautiful streets.

Vila Real is a nice town with all factilities available,...

Vila Real is a nice town with all factilities available, some nice and affordabled places to eat or have a drink. It is within 30 minutes of driving from the Douro valley. A great ride will bring you in the wineries over there. Be prepared that wine tasting in the Douro valley is overpriced.

Breathtaking views. The area is stunning and so peaceful.

Breathtaking views. The area is stunning and so peaceful. We drove into some of the small villages and the locals were so friendly. We prefer to eat away from the tourist areas and we were not disappointed in this area. The food was fresh and tasty and very reasonable.

Next time we visit this area, we will get the train from Porto and then do a car hire in the location. Both to enjoy the train journey and also to avoid adjusting to the very narrow roads after a long journey to the area.

Firstly, this hotel is no longer owned by the Pousada (Portuguese Government) and is now operated by a private company. I am told the same staff remain under the new ownership. We stayed two nights at this hotel. First impressions are the interior is a little dated in places. That said, it did have the best [powerful] showers of or 10-night stay in Northern Portugal. The staff are friendly and helpful, but the hotel does "close down" at midnight each evening and there is no front desk staff or any staff as I could determine in the property so if this is a concern for some travellers, be aware. I would say the hotel is a comfortable place to stay in a town with few options. The breakfast was again adequate, but I found that to be the case in all the hotels we stayed in as opposed to in Spain where the breakfasts are sumptuous especially in the Pardores. My comments about the restaurant are separate.

The Quinta de Sao Luiz, where we were staying, made a reservation for us at a restaurant in Tabuaco. The drive to the restaurant was challenging due to the serpentine road and rainy weather. I don't think there was much to do in that small town, but we had an okay experience at the restaurant.

This is a wonderful town from which to explore the area.

This is a wonderful town from which to explore the area. We visited in early March, just before the Almond Blossom festival. Unfortunately we had to leave right before the festival started, but we saw the preparations and it looks like a fun event. The Coa Archeology Museum and tours to the rock art sites are a must-see. Especially the night tour. It’s worth it!! This area is also a great base for exploring the local castles and wine growing areas. Gorgeous scenery, friendly people and no crowds!!

Great jumping off point for Douro River and wineries.

Great jumping off point for Douro River and wineries. Pleasant train ride to get there from Porto. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance around the town and boat trips from the pier. Short train ride to next town and winery tours.
