Alex spent a lot time with us explaining the different things we could do in the area with maps and great suggestions. Room was very comfortable And cleans the breakfast was amazing ! It was incredibly clean and light. Very comfortable. The help from a very kind gentleman in the breakfast room with tea in our room( we English!) was over and above his duties whilst the breakfast was superb. Wonderful village on the Douro and wished we could have stayed longer.

One of the most special places we have ever stayed - the location is just stunning, the rooms are immaculately clean and beautifully designed, and Cedelia and Deri and their team are the most generous hosts. They were particularly kind in helping my husband who injured himself before we arrived. We also enjoyed the wine made in house (we particularly liked the rosé) and delicious meals from Deri (we tried most of the tapas menu including cod fritters, cheese board, salad, burger, fries and pizza and all were very tasty). Thank you again for this special stay.

The staff surprised us with cake and a bottle of wine on our arrival (it was my husband's bday). Beautiful hotel, spectacular views, great food, friendly staff, a chef's garden, vineyard and relaxing pools and spa. We enjoyed our time relaxing. Amazing place, this was the highlight of our trip in Portugal. The host was the best. He helped us book a local wine tour and gave us very good recommendations for everything that we needed. This is quite a busy little town, as it seems to be the biggest place on this stretch of the river. There are plenty of facilities, including several supermarkets. The best part of the visit, for us, was a half-day cruise down the Douro. There are several options, one that we chose went to Pinhao and back and included lunch on board.

Nice and modern hotel with a relaxing atmosphere. Nice restaurant with a view on the hill. We also enjoyed the indoor heated pool. The hotel is located in an area of cheap apartment buildings and the surroundings are not enjoyable. Seen from the outside, the hotel is also ugly, except from the outside swimming pool area.

The location is perfect for visiting the wineries.

The location is perfect for visiting the wineries. We thought that an overnight was plenty of time but that depends on how many wineries you want to visit. An olive oil museum tour at D'Origem was great, especially for a family, because they gave a tour and then bread to try with olive oil, honey, and 3 different kinds of wine (or port-I can't remember). The solar boat tour was terrific, too. Couples may want to stay longer if they want to see several wineries. Beyond that, the town itself is really run down. So worth staying for access but don't expect to be walking down beautiful streets.

Vila Real is a nice town with all factilities available, some nice and affordabled places to eat or have a drink. It is within 30 minutes of driving from the Douro valley. A great ride will bring you in the wineries over there. Be prepared that wine tasting in the Douro valley is overpriced.

Breathtaking views. The area is stunning and so peaceful. We drove into some of the small villages and the locals were so friendly. We prefer to eat away from the tourist areas and we were not disappointed in this area. The food was fresh and tasty and very reasonable.

Next time we visit this area, we will get the train from Porto and then do a car hire in the location. Both to enjoy the train journey and also to avoid adjusting to the very narrow roads after a long journey to the area.

This is a wonderful town from which to explore the area. We visited in early March, just before the Almond Blossom festival. Unfortunately we had to leave right before the festival started, but we saw the preparations and it looks like a fun event. The Coa Archeology Museum and tours to the rock art sites are a must-see. Especially the night tour. It’s worth it!! This area is also a great base for exploring the local castles and wine growing areas. Gorgeous scenery, friendly people and no crowds!!

The hotel is situated in a quiet spot which suited us perfectly as we wanted to chill. There’s nothing much to do in the area. If you’re looking for boat trips, wine tours etc it might be better to stay further up river in Pinhao or Porto.

The Quinta de Sao Luiz, where we were staying, made a reservation for us at a restaurant in Tabuaco. The drive to the restaurant was challenging due to the serpentine road and rainy weather. I don't think there was much to do in that small town, but we had an okay experience at the restaurant.
