We spent just one night during the week on our travels and it was such amazing value for money! The room was impecable, with a view to the garden and pool, and river. Very clean, quiet, cozy. Free coffee and water included, and breakfast included. I really liked the toiletries offered, too. The staff was very nice and helpful. Easy to park nearby, too, for free. Very centric even if it is a small town.

Great place with swimming pool outside, inside spa area. Our kid of 10 years old loved it too. Quiet and easy to access. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The restaurants are of great quality. We’d like to highlight the gastronomic restaurant, a must do - every dish is a delicious surprise, it’s all local and service is top! Congrats to the Chef!

Cidalia and her son were outstanding, warm hosts, and showed real care towards me and my friend. It didn’t feel like we’re staying in a hotel, as much as going to visit close family. They went above and beyond to meet our requests, and have a wealth of knowledge about the region, history and gave us very detailed and practical recommendations. The views from the room were gorgeous, overlooking the river and rolling hills of vineyards. In the morning, we were treated to an amazing breakfast- the son represented Portugal in competition for young chefs. It’s a feast for senses.

This is truly a hidden paradise. The scenery is so green beautiful and calm. You hear the birds, you see birds flying, you hear the river. The swimming pool is amazing. The water was a perfect temperature to refresh without being too cold. This is a perfect getaway from city life. The hosts are so welcoming and eager to help. They encourage guests to ask for what they need and they are extremely accommodating. For instance, we had the privilege to choose our room and during breakfast they asked us if we wanted eggs made in any way we liked.

Great view on the beautiful river Duoro valley. Many animals, that you expect to see in a zoo, live on the villa territory. A train station just 200 meters down the hill. You can swim in the covered pool, outside pool or in the river (which water is clean as the river basin upstream is a territory of UNESCO-protected national park). The villa produces its own fruits, jam, milk and yogurt, etc

This is a very isolated but unique hotel. Difficult to find staff as the facility covers a large area and most staff we did find, have multiple responsibilities. The room was unique and comfortable, but needed some updating. The restaurant was lovely and the dinner was nice as well. it was a bit expensive for the experience

This is quite a busy little town, as it seems to be the biggest place on this stretch of the river. There are plenty of facilities, including several supermarkets. The best part of the visit, for us, was a half-day cruise down the Douro. There are several options, one that we chose went to Pinhao and back and included lunch on board.

Nice and modern hotel with a relaxing atmosphere. Nice restaurant with a view on the hill. We also enjoyed the indoor heated pool. The hotel is located in an area of cheap apartment buildings and the surroundings are not enjoyable. Seen from the outside, the hotel is also ugly, except from the outside swimming pool area.

The location is perfect for visiting the wineries.

The location is perfect for visiting the wineries. We thought that an overnight was plenty of time but that depends on how many wineries you want to visit. An olive oil museum tour at D'Origem was great, especially for a family, because they gave a tour and then bread to try with olive oil, honey, and 3 different kinds of wine (or port-I can't remember). The solar boat tour was terrific, too. Couples may want to stay longer if they want to see several wineries. Beyond that, the town itself is really run down. So worth staying for access but don't expect to be walking down beautiful streets.

Vila Real is a nice town with all factilities available, some nice and affordabled places to eat or have a drink. It is within 30 minutes of driving from the Douro valley. A great ride will bring you in the wineries over there. Be prepared that wine tasting in the Douro valley is overpriced.

Breathtaking views. The area is stunning and so peaceful. We drove into some of the small villages and the locals were so friendly. We prefer to eat away from the tourist areas and we were not disappointed in this area. The food was fresh and tasty and very reasonable.

Next time we visit this area, we will get the train from Porto and then do a car hire in the location. Both to enjoy the train journey and also to avoid adjusting to the very narrow roads after a long journey to the area.

This is a wonderful town from which to explore the area. We visited in early March, just before the Almond Blossom festival. Unfortunately we had to leave right before the festival started, but we saw the preparations and it looks like a fun event. The Coa Archeology Museum and tours to the rock art sites are a must-see. Especially the night tour. It’s worth it!! This area is also a great base for exploring the local castles and wine growing areas. Gorgeous scenery, friendly people and no crowds!!

The hotel is situated in a quiet spot which suited us perfectly as we wanted to chill. There’s nothing much to do in the area. If you’re looking for boat trips, wine tours etc it might be better to stay further up river in Pinhao or Porto.

The Quinta de Sao Luiz, where we were staying, made a reservation for us at a restaurant in Tabuaco. The drive to the restaurant was challenging due to the serpentine road and rainy weather. I don't think there was much to do in that small town, but we had an okay experience at the restaurant.
