Ruhondo island retreat was fantastic - both in terms of natural beauty and as a gateway to many local community experiences around lake Ruhondo. Jean was amazing and led us on a hike and community visit - he shared awesome info about the area where he was born. The tents were awesome - with great hot water showers. The food was also excellent, the chef Elias did a great job! I would recommend visiting lake Ruhondo , and the retreat, as an alternative to lake Kivu.

William the manager speaks english and french. He is very reactive and helpful. The food was nice but above the place whre the lodge stands is perfect. On the lake shore with a sublime view on the volcanos for the sunset and the sunrise. A small piece of paradise. Highly recommended!

The location is great. The staff is very helpful & polite; they would go extra miles to assist you. Even the owner created a personal touch she arranged for us outdoor bonfire under the stars & forest surrounding that all of us throughly enjoyed. Also we had good breakfast in open area of the restaurant while enjoying the nature too.

Food is very good. Planting alongside rooms is beautiful. Rooms are separate villas and are huge. with excellent bathrooms, also huge. Staff are extremely helpful. Good location near to national park. Quiet. Spa will be a great addition when it opens.

All of it but it's the staff that make this place so special. From Ibrahim's foot massages, to the attentiveness of the staff at all times following us round with a portable fire, making the fires in our room, cleaning our hiking boots and the food in the restaurant is sublime. Couldn't have had a nicer stay! The view of the volcanos is incredible, and the hotel arranged our bisoke hike transport and it was great.

Let the lovely Sonia and her fabulous team at the Virunga Hotel look after you. From organising tours to the Mountain Gorillas 🦍 in the Volcano National Park to a delicious meal in their restaurant. My room was comfortable, immaculately clean and quiet. The hotel is in the heart of the CBD within a few minutes walk of shops, cafes, supermarkets, restaurants, bus station, banks and pharmacies. The swimming pool looks lovely and makes for great wedding photos.
