The fact that you can stay at a quality place so far up north is great. The location is quite convenient as there are lots of places nearby where you can go aurora hunting, hiking and more. It may look a bit overpriced, which would be indeed the case if you compare it to hotels based in cities, but if you consider that you are in Abisko, it is quite reasonable. The personnel was very helpful and responded to all our questions. We didn't go to the restaurant for dinner, but the breakfast was excellent with a healthy focus. We would definitely stay again.

The location is great and easily accessible. We got a cabin for 4 people instead of cabin for 2! Thus our night was very comfortable, the cabin was very spacious, though I am not sure you can always get such a big one for just 2 people. But in our case, many thanks to the host!

The Kitchen was great and the location was incredibly convenient with a grocer around the corner. The staff were super accomodating, especially when our travel plans were foiled with trouble getting across the Norway border due to a snowstorm.

We mainly used Kiruna as our hub in and out of the region.
We mainly used Kiruna as our hub in and out of the region. One night in the beginning before driving to Finland, and then a night at the end before flying home. We definitely could have spent more time here. There are a lot of activities you can book in the area. We loved visiting the Ice Hotel, as well as Abisko National Park.

When temps hit -18 but wind chill is -28 you're finger tips and toe tips are so cold that it doesnt matter if rest of your body is nice and warm. So ensure you have proper layering on your hands and legs.
Nature is beautiful even when its just snow all around there is sooo much to observe and notice from how snow is compacted to different way ice is freezing over. To sooooo many animals just roaming around to how the plants and trees adapt. Clear night skies where you can see stars is breathtaking ! If your used to being picked up after please this isnt the right place. But if you pick up after yourself love to appreciate nature and your not here to click photos for instagram or social media then this place is the place to be in the winters
Sad to see few tourists littering beer cans around. Please pick up after yourself this place is till not messed up bu humans its just few rotten apples so if you litter please pick it up and if you see someone littering please call them out.

The Ice rooms were spectacular.
The Ice rooms were spectacular. The staff were stupendous, couldn't have asked for a better experience. Loads to do and see in the area, Seen the Aurora Borealis stepping outside our room was supper special, The Dog Sled ride was an exhilarating experience. Taking a breat to heat ourselves up at the Sámi visitors center was delightful. AND the food, YUM YUM YUM....

Gallivare is a mining town and in itself not particularly interesting for holiday takers but it provides good transport options to several of the national parks in the region.
It is possible to make some nice walks in the immediate vicinity of the town but these alone are not a reason to travel there.

Very cozy place with wonderful views in the middle of...
Very cozy place with wonderful views in the middle of Lappland's montains. Over the 3.5 days we staed there we managed to ski, both alpine skiing and crosscountry and a few hikes. The weather was really nice, just a little cold (down to -22 in the morning, at the end of March), but dry, so the cold was not too bad. We managed to see also intense northern lights during one evening. According to locals it happens 1-2 times a week. The restaurant has good food at a decent price, but there are also several more expensive options that allows you to experience the local cuisine, with ingredients not much common in Stockholm as reindeer meat, cloudberries, etc..
There are only a few minor cons: The ski resort is nice, well made, just a bit small and uses only skilifts. Some of the possible other activities were in my opinion a bit overpriced.
One extra advice: pubblic transport is very limited, as one should expect here, but the road is well kept, so if you want to explore around I recommend to rent a car in Kiruna..

It must be the perfect spot to watch northern lights. We came in August to enjoy nature by the lake. There is not much else around tho. No public transportation, no restaurants or anything... no sidewalks either. So bring your own car!

Kiruna is a small, industrial town which, in spite of its small size, offers lots of activities, the most important for me being the Northern Light tours. It is also within 20 minutes from the famous Ice Hotel which is a MUST see. In summer, it also offers other activities. Our stay was quite short so we did not get to see the new city center where there is a museum and other things to see. The interesting fact about the new center is that the church and the houses were literally picked up from the old center and moved to the new one. The reason being the iron mining activities which were a threat to the stability of the old center. Hence the move to a new location. The airport is so cute: a small structure with one terminal and one gate. One walks to and from the airplane to the airport :)

Overall, i would rate the place a good base.
Overall, i would rate the place a good base. You are getting a "hostel" experience but more upscale and cleaner. Great location to explore trails etc. Only negative is the cost of food; be prepared for sticker shock. I would highly recommend bringing your own supplies - maybe from Kiruna as you can cook your own food and save $ EUR etc which can be put towards guided activities.

The oldest church in Sweden is located there.
The torne river/ lake is stunning.
The old homestead is a great restaurant located about 1km from the Icehotel.
Food is delicious.
Local people are very friendly and helpful.

Basic amenities like hand soap, shower gel was missing. There was no wifi. There was confusion on towels and bedspreads. When I booked, I checked that was included but doing check in process I got to know that it is not included. Worst quality toilet paper.
