United KingdomI made a great decision by trying the new Sama Hotels. All the staff members were really welcoming and helpful, especially Ernest and Eli/Wili. It’s well located with many restaurants, coffee shops and even a great souvenir boutique nearby. The food and the drinks at the rooftop restaurant and breakfast were amazing, they clearly use good quality ingredients. I would definitely return to this hotel.

It is modern and spotlessly clean with a refreshing perfumed smell in the rooms after they have been cleaned. Staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make sure that guests are made to feel comfortable and welcomed. A good breakfast is served at the rooftop restaurant overlooking the city. The price of the rooms also represents great value for money. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again or recommend to others.

Casa Mara is a beautiful and relaxing place. Facilities were great: we tanned by the swimming pool, had a delicious breakfast in the main area, enjoyed some music on the rooftop and slept well in our spacious room. Thanks for the great recommendations as well.

Dakar is a great place to begin your holiday, but I would...
Dakar is a great place to begin your holiday, but I would not necessarily recommend staying there for too long. Take some time to visit the main sights, then continue your journey either to Casamance or to La Somone, which I found prettier and more enjoyable than Saly.
Saly is livelier, with a young, stylish, Afro-chic and artistic atmosphere, whereas La Somone is quieter and more peaceful. The ocean is lovely, the beaches are less crowded, and the overall atmosphere is much more relaxing. Both destinations have their own charm—it simply depends on the kind of experience you are looking for.

We initially didn't consider spending the night in Goree but...
We initially didn't consider spending the night in Goree but were convinced by people in Dakar and so happy with our choice.
It's great to see how the atmosphere on the island changes once all toruists are gone.
We had a great meal by the seaside (excellent fresh seafood) and enjoyed the calm and tranquillity of the island.
Wouldn't stay for longer than one night, but recommend the expereince to anyone coming to visit.

I believe that Dakar is a wonderful introduction to Africa, for first time visitors.
The people are gentle and very hospitable.
They greet you, even on the bus or the corner store!
The weather can be hot, however that is to be expected.
Visit the Markets -Sandiga, HLM, Tilen, or Colobane.
Just the peoples' everyday clothing is like witnessing a fashion show!.
Visit Ngor Island , with a traditional boat ride to the artists' retreat.
Go to Goree Island, where the enslaved inhabitants were housed before being shipped off to North, and South America.
The ocean alone is a sight to see, and its bountiful fish are a tasteful delight.

Goree Island is a trip most people make for just a day from Dakar. However 1 or 2 nights is even more special. The journey takes 20 minutes on the ferry and is an easy journey. Remember your passport to get on the ferry. The island is tiny, in 30 minutes you can walk all of it. It’s very picturesque.
The main place to visit it tinged with terrible historical sadness. The House of Slaves (Maison des Esclaves) tells the history of millions of slaves who were kidnapped from West Africa for the Americas. There’s little else to see, but many artists, little shops and goats and cats everywhere. It’s a place to relax and switch off.

It is a beautiful city but very very expensive.
It is a beautiful city but very very expensive. Without lots of money you will hardly enjoy it as you want. But to be fair one can enjoy staying in Dakar with humility if you want to enjoy the local life there such as travelling by public transport, eating what you cook or the local fast food,. This can be also a very pleasant experience. Although one most be mindful when shopping at the markets due to expensive prices by some vendors.

Small island with lots of history, old and well kept houses...
Small island with lots of history, old and well kept houses and a small community that probably completely depends on tourism. Wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle from Dakar.
Food is local and mainly at the beach and closes early.
Try other guesthouses such as adame on the other side of the island, which has sea view, airco and is treat for families and bigger groups.getting around by walking is easy and nice to explore the island. Either way. The only other vehicle is donkeys (mainly used for heavy loads and garbage).
One night is perfect. Two nights is very relaxing. 3 is a bit much.
