FAQs about hotels on Djerba

Unforgettable Island of Forgetfulness

Djerba is so relaxing that it’s called the ‘Island of Forgetfulness’. But that doesn’t mean your stay won’t be unforgettable. Far from it. Djerba has an incredible sunshine record and wonderful beaches with calm, turquoise waters.

It was in antiquity that this Tunisian gem first came to the fore, with a mention in Homer’s Odyssey. More recently, Ajim was a film location for the 1st Star Wars film. Inland Erriadh is the closest town to it and is home to impressive El Ghriba synagogue, over 2000 years old and with vibrant blue tiles inside.

Most Djerba hotels, all inclusive ones included, are found along the north coast and many have spa facilities. Several are in Houmt-Souk, the largest town and the closest to Djerba Airport. Its name means marketplace, and it’s easy to see why, with its colourful markets selling handmade goods.

Mezraia is around the corner from the Ras R’mel peninsula which offers a seasonal home to migrating flamingoes. Just east, Midoun has typical domed, whitewashed buildings and Djerba Explore Park which has a surprisingly large collection of Nile crocodiles. Nearby Aghir has a long beach with a lighthouse silhouetted during the beautiful Djerba sunsets.

Whichever you choose from the range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Djerba, last minute deals are often available on Booking.com.

Excellent food for breakfast. Very much to our taste. Nothing was too much trouble for our host. We also had dinner at Dar Bibine more evenings than we ate out, and that was excellent too. Erriadh is not on the coast, but it is easy to get anywhere on the island from there using the cheap and easily found taxis. It does have marvellous and extensive street art which kept us pleasantly occupied. The world's oldest surviving Synagogue is a short walk away and worth visiting. The local people are very friendly. The town seemed very safe and hassle-free. If you want the beach, then an option that worked for us was to take a taxi across to

It was my second time in Djerba, and this hotel was so much better than my previous hotel. The hotel was clean, and the staff was very friendly. The food was delicious, and the animators were really good fun. Special thanks to bartender Mohamed Ali Selmi and receptionist Ayhem, who made sure our stay was special as ever.

Djerba was interesting and we did a tour of the UNESCO sites. We also did a tour to the Berber villages which was very good. The old part of Houmt Souk was interesting and there are some good restaurants. Otherwise Houmt Souk is very similar to other North Africa towns

Djerba is a beautifully, calm and relaxing island with good weather and lots of activities to enjoy. Most things are absolute value for money with food options plenty. The island is pretty easy to get around although for convenience, I’d recommend hiring a car.

We stayed for a week. Sidi Mehrez is the beach we were at. Clean water, white sandy beach. It is slightly spoilt by people trying to get you ride a camel or have a horse ride. Tunisian food is great everywhere. We tried Essofra in Houmet El Souk. ChouChou in Midoun. Also had street food in a stall around Mosque Sidi Ibrahim. Le Foundok was great for an afternoon tea and a calm surrounding. Pavillion is good if you are after a Shisha. Easy to get a taxi everywhere

The graffiti art in Djerbahood is definitely worth visiting as is the nearby ancient synagogue. Hamt soukh is interesting but beware of some of the traders as they can be so pushy and hence over priced. Dont be afraid to bargain hard. There are some amazing quiet beaches that are off the beaten track that taxis will take you too and pick up and they are so inexpensive it is cheaper than getting a hire car. We had a four hour tour with a driver for only £35. We visited during Rammadan so there were limitations of bars and restaurants but not at the hotels.

Djerba was a real dissapointment for us: everything dirty (resorts ar perhaps better), we wet to restaurant with name: Restaurant Savana. It was real disaster: very expensive, so unfriendly person who brought us food, everything was burnt, he didn´t bring us new plates (only small ones were there), at the end he charged us also for service... We strongly recomend to avoid that restaurant.

entered my room, the duvet was already dirty and clearly had not been properly cleaned. This is completely unacceptable for a hotel stay. What made the experience worse was the receptionist’s response. When I reported the issue, he told me that the duvet was “fine” and said this was their standard. Only after I showed him the visible dirt did he acknowledge the problem. Being told that dirty bedding is their standard is shocking and unprofessional. Clean bedding is a basic requirement, and the way this situation was handled showed a lack of care for guests and hygiene. I was not happy with the quality of the room or the customer service, and I would not recommend this hotel.
