This hotel was great. The room was spacious, clean, the bed was heaven. Breakfast had loads of choices. The staff was absolutely helpfull throughout. While in the hotel they used translation apps, so they could communicate effectively with me. The communication through booking worked well also.  They picked me up from the airport late at night and brought me back in the morning.   ( a tip for my fellow travellers; download wechat in your own country, to use that to communicate when it's time for your stay I felt sorry for myself, that I only used it for sleeping during a layover. I will come back someday and stay longer.

I am very impressed with the front desk reception staff and the GM, Ms. Zhang. They are incredibly approachable, attentive, and patient with all the in-house guests. Specifically, Mr. Zhang Jia Xing and Ms. Shi Lin always provided excellent information and guidance during our stay. Overall, the breakfast experience was positive. Mr. Yu Li was friendly and approachable, and Mr. Yang Yupeng ensured there were many fresh options. However, I suggest offering a wider selection of bread. Also, the housekeeper, Ms. Zheng Suyun, did a wonderful job. She kept our room very clean and always provided us with everything we requested, such as extra mineral water.

The staff were fantastic. They arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the ferry and stored our luggage until we could check in as well as giving us tips and maps for things to see. Later, instead of having to take a bus back, a local lady drove us back to the hotel. When we went for a walk up to the nearby Family Mart, it started to rain so the lady from the front desk brought us raincoats and picked us up in the car, and she was waiting again after our night visit to see the Blue Tears since it had begun to rain again. Absolutely top-notch and caring service from the staff. The local breakfast was also delicious, and the room was stylish and comfortable.

Gulangyu island was a disappointment.

Gulangyu island was a disappointment. There is so much potential but mass tourism has led to cheap and nasty food offerings whilst many historical buildings are empty or boarded up. The ferries are overcrowded and dare I say somewhat dangerous because so many people are standing on the upper deck. Zhongshan Road is pedestrianised and fun to walk down and window shop although there's nothing really original to buy there. The Yundang Wai Lake area is much more classy and worth a stroll around the leafy roads. There are hidden gems in Xiamen but you need to do a lot of research before going because the usual Top 10 sights are mass tourism and quite disappointing.

Nangan is a little treasure - an ecological wonderland...

Nangan is a little treasure - an ecological wonderland rolled into a frontline venue for Chinese-Taiwan conflict. There are lots of military sites to visit including the amazing Beihai tunnels. I did much walking on both Nangan and Beigan - including villages with their stone houses. Pity I couldn’t get to see the sika deer or blue tears. Can’t see everything.

Nature walk n near to Mt Tawu for a 2hr nature walk n exercise to enjoy the view. Only 1 bus ride of 25 min to town. Rent a scooter and nowhere is too far away. I didn’t have enough time to cover some attractions nearby as I took 2 x half day tours. Had interesting traditional food like oyster, mee suay , fried chicken in different flavors in Jincheng old quarters

We truly enjoyed our two day stay on Beigan.

We truly enjoyed our two day stay on Beigan. The owners of our homestay in Qinbi, 芹壁幸福海岸民宿-民宿編號051, were very hospitable. Beigan is a nice combination of nature, culture, and military history. The highlights of our stay were hiking the Luoshan Nature Trail, eating lunch at 金魚水手作坊, drinking tea while enjoying the views from our homestay, taking the ferry to see the sika deer on Daqiu, and getting to see the "blue tears".

A peaceful city with a slow and relaxing pace of life, friendly local people, amazing food, and convenient transportation. I especially enjoyed the fresh seafood noodle soup and truly loved every meal throughout the trip. Overall, it was a pleasant and memorable experience.

Beautiful, tropical-feeling island 20 nautical miles off the...

Beautiful, tropical-feeling island 20 nautical miles off the coast of the PRC mainland, this is a chapter in history kept alive with its abundant military fortresses, tunnels, inspiring patriotic slogans everywhere, and continued military presence. If you want to understand the Chinese Civil War and how it's impacted the ROC, come here (or to Kinmen.) Must visit for a real understanding of how modern Taiwan and ROC came to be. Also plenty of trails, sandy beaches, and animal encounters scattered throughout the islands known as Matsu. Most surprising were the lovely little bistros and bars and great restaurant gems tucked away in its villages!

Xiamen is a fascinating city that has a blend of European influence and traditional Chinese culture/ This city has a lot to offer. I would recommend a night on Gulungyu Island to really take in all the island has to offer. Also, it best to come in the shoulder months of summer as the heat made our trip less enjoyable.

We came to Nangan to hike one of Taiwan's Small 100...

We came to Nangan to hike one of Taiwan's Small 100 Mountains, however we got so much more from our stay. It is a beautiful scooter drive around the island. We enjoyed exploring the small villages with stone houses as well as the historic military locations. The highlight was a hike through the geopark followed by an evening of photographing the "blue tears" right, both just outside of our amazing homestay, Matsu Seaside View Homestay.

Compared to the main island of Nagnan.

Compared to the main island of Nagnan. Beigan is more authentic and quiet. Nangan does have more to offer, in terms of comfort but Beigan is more authentic. Definitely check out the stone villages. It is easier if you have a scooter, but you can rent a taxi for the day or take limited bus schedule.

What a beautiful, hidden gem! Im so glad we came here...it wasnt the typical tourist spot which is exactly what we were looking for. Seafood capital of China for a reason! Delicious! And the people are curious and friendly!!!
