Colorado

Colorado’s Rocky Mountains are its signature, a playground of alpine peaks, wildflower meadows and world-class ski resorts. Known for outdoor adventure, craft beer and dramatic national parks, the state serves up active family holidays and solo escapes filled with hiking, skiing and laid-back mountain-town charm.

See Rocky Mountain National Park and Mesa Verde’s cliff dwellings. Hike or drive Trail Ridge Road, or try a family lake walk. Stay in Denver for flights and culture, Estes Park for RMNP access and Durango for Mesa Verde, scenic railways, southwest charm and hot springs.

I would live here if I could.
Denver

I would live here if I could. The weather was exceptional, the locals are kind, and the things to do are endless. We explored many bars and restaurants and made the most of our trip. Love that within a two hour drive you can see/do so much as well. Such as Idaho springs, Golden, green of the gods, etc.

Estes Park

We really enjoyed the drive through the Rocky Mountain National Park on Trail Ridge Road. So much that we went back a second day to see a few more areas. We also enjoyed the Aerial Tram in Estes Park and the hike to the Summit. There were so many great restaurants to choose from in Estes Park. And many great different types of stores for shopping. We had booked 2 nights to stay and last minute added another night.

I spent part of one day at Garden of the Gods park.
Colorado Springs

I spent part of one day at Garden of the Gods park. It is a free park run by the city. There are interesting and unusual rock formations. There are many levels of hiking and it is a great place to spend some time. Bring plenty of water if you go during the summer - it gets very hot. And arrive early to beat the crowds.

Glenwood Springs

There are many other things I have not tried but the Glenwood Hot Springs or should I say pools water is pumped into then need repar and cost way to much. The hot springs are way over priced for the rundown condition and no hot springs there at all just rusty pools.

Boulder

Boulder is fun and entertaining. We love the vast variety of restaurants and shops. Great cuisine from all over and unique shops. Outdoor activities are abundant and great. The climate may be iffy; we had very hot and a bit smoky weather.

Aurora

There are basic facilities here and it is convenient to the expressway. It is also convenient for visiting senior properties nearby. Overall though it is not a community that draws white collar people. Nearby restaurants are quite ordinary. A well prepared healthy meal in a sit down setting is hard to find. There are fast food franchises and a lot of fatty foods available in most restaurants nearby.

Vail

We liked our very first trip to Vail 4 years ago. We normally goto Breck but we were just just reminded of how everything is overpriced. The food, restaurants... If you're planning to have homecooked meals, there are nearby markets to shop which is what we did. We just didn't feel it was worth the amount of $ to be spent on food everynight. We'll be going to Breck from now on and if we really want to return it's because of the back bowl powder skiing.

Buena Vista

We traveled in mid April, and it turns out quite a number of the restaurants and shops we like to frequent were still closed for the season. But the town is very picturesque, and it has quite a few great dining and shopping options during peak season. Turns out shoulder season may not be the optimal time to come, but then again, there is a lot of great hiking along the Arkansas River, both in and around town and south in the Browns Canyon area. And it was kind of nice not to have crowded trails. It's also a reasonable drive down to Salida, which is also a wonderful place to explore.
