We had booked two rounds of golf at Highland Gate over the weekend and the Stix is the perfect location with it literally being less than 1km from the course. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, letting us check in early and keeping us updated via WhatsApp. The room was clean and well stocked with wood for a fire and braai. The view from the deck was really nice and a great braai setup. All in all we were very happy with our stay and it was incredible value for money. I can really recommend staying here.

The location has a beautiful garden with lots of flowers and trees. The room was so clean, kitchen was nicely packed. We also had enough heaters to warm us up with electric blankets. The bedroom and bathroom were clean.

Everything. We could walk to the restaurants and to the park. Enjoyed taking pictures at the wall mural at Soho, loved the feel of the cottage and the size. It was well laid out and cleam.

It’s a charming little town with a basic supermarket, so if you forget anything, you’ll likely find something basic there. That said, I’d still recommend buying your self-catering groceries and essentials before you arrive. There’s also a great variety of restaurants to choose from.

The photos on the websites are definitely not a true reflection of how the place actually looks. Had I seen the surroundings and how dilapidated the buildings looked from outside, I would never have booked. I also arrived at "dead man's door". Nobody in sight for atleast 15-20 min. I actually thought I had been scammed. When someone eventually arrived, they were friendly and helpful.
Once I checked into my room I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was old but neat and tidy. The bedding and towels smelt absolutely amazing. There was coffee, tea, sugar and powdered milk available but unfortunately only 1 coffee sachet was given. I had hot water in the evening and morning which was great. I was given a torch for when load shedding starts. For the price paid, it was okay for a quick overnight stay. I do just think some effort needs to be made to the outer appearance as the location already looks dodgy. I don't know if I will book there again. This will be my last resort if other places aren't available.

This is a hidden gem and well worth the travel.
This is a hidden gem and well worth the travel. It is South Africa's highest town at 2100m above sea level and breathing can be an issue if you have lung problems.
Include the following in your stay:
Bird of Prey Rehabilitation Centre
Milly's food store
Whiskey, gin, brandy and wine tastings throughout the town
The Fudge shop situated in the antiques shop
The Clock Shop
A drink at any of the pubs or eateries just savouring the atmosphere.

It is quick to get to Dullstroom from Gauteng.
It is quick to get to Dullstroom from Gauteng. The scenery, restaurants, tourist activities and the people make the place whole. Even though there are no franchise grocery shops such as Spar and Checkers, a delivery service will come handy.
