I was lucky enough to stay at The Camino studio apartment at Leipoldt Street 3, Clanwilliam, which my friend booked for me while travelling the route from Cape Town to Namibia. Staying here during summer was a real treat — the air-conditioning was a lifesaver and made the heat completely manageable. I was working remotely and found the internet fast and reliable, which made late-night online meetings in South African time an absolute breeze. Having Netflix with plenty of viewing options was a bonus during quiet hours. The host truly goes above and beyond. I was spoiled with a beautiful selection of Italian coffee, chicory, excellent Rooibos tea, and delicious rusks for breakfast. Little touches like this made the stay feel thoughtful and welcoming. I also appreciated being able to do laundry and hang it out while enjoying a peaceful late-afternoon Qigong session in the garden — such a calm and grounding space. The host even helped me book one of the best massages I’ve had in a long time, just a five-minute walk away in Voortrekker Street, conveniently close and easy to find. In the evening, I followed one of the many dinner suggestions provided, and it did not disappoint. It’s rare to find a hostess who puts in this level of care — she didn’t just go the extra mile, she went ten more. A truly memorable stop, and I would highly recommend The Camino to anyone passing through Clanwilliam, especially those working remotely or travelling long distances.

Wow! What a place! The location is phenomenal in the heart of the Cederberg Mountains. The chalets are beautifully situated in the valley, with privacy and views that make the very best of the landscape. And oh my the hot tub! The houses are very well equipped with everything you need for a self sufficient stay - or for you to benefit from the tasty braai boxes available. The service and staff are incredible, with attentive and flexible support, helpful information, and knowledgeable and very professional guides for the activities on offer. If you can, stay at Mount Ceder!

Clanwilliam is a pretty town, and well placed for simply relaxing, or exploring the West Coast of South Africa as well as the Northern Cape. Area is renowned for ancient rock art at various sites. Perfect as a base for the Namaqualand wild flower season between August and September every year.

We drove around the area and were really interested to see the farming activities in the area, particularly the rooibos tea cultivation. The weather was glorious though the nights did get a little cool.

We only stayed one night at Maskam Guest farm, but I will definitely return. We did not see much of the area as the trip was to see family only. The mountains are spectacular and the night sky is so stunningly clear. I would love to also roam on the farm and see more of it.

The Klawer hotel is something to visit.

The Klawer hotel is something to visit. We had a very interesting meal there. The place itself is not spectacular, but for atmosphere you must visit this Margo's restaurant, if only to see the "Halucinogenic fish" - at least that is what the waitress called the inhabitants of the fishtank that was sitting opposite our table.

We have visited Clanwilliam frequently and have always enjoyed our stay there. We were disappointed in our choice of stay this time as we felt that no one other than Peter, the Malawian assistant, was at all interested in whether we were there or not and that very little thought had been put into making guests feel comfortable or welcome.

There is absolutely nothing to see in Citrusdal, according to our hosts. They sent us to Clanwilliam for the Saturday. I was the last day of the Wild Flower show, so we went and enjoyed it. Otherwise, we had to view orange pickers shopping or loitering in the streets. Not our chosen pass time anymore. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. We actually went that direction, from Cape Town, to experience the hot spring baths, but it was fully booked for the Friday and Saturday, and no day visitors are allowed. We, however got a room for the Sunday night, at a special price of R1600 for the two of us, at The Baths, some 18 km out of Citrusdal. Very expensive but superb! Albeit, also, strangely enough, no coffee or tea or refreshments awaiting you in your quite expensive suite. But the accommodation is stunning. So whenever you want to go flower watching, cart all your stuff along, the nice Westcoast people isn't giving away no free coffee :)

Absolutely stunning views.

Absolutely stunning views. Definitely recommend high clearance vehicle. Lots of gravel roads, some are not great. When it rains, the roads are dangerous. Lots of driving through very deep puddles and some bridges washed away. But A+ for adventure.

The town is quaint and a nice safe walk around it in the evening was a pleasant surprise. The Old Jail is a must see together with the nurseries. Lodge was very accommodating and people seem friendly and helpful. The Shell garage attendants were funny and made filling up an experience. All told - fabulous little dorpie!

We were very well treated by everyone in Clanwilliam and had we not been having car problems we would have stayed longer to explore the nearby Biedouw Valley flowers and the Clanwilliam Gardens and big Dam.
