The location of the hotel was just breathtaking. I didn't know such beauty existed in Bloemfontein. The butler was lovely, charming and so helpful. I loved the extra touch of heated towel rails. The breakfast being 3 courses exceeded my wildest expectations.

My stay in Bloemfontein was truly wonderful. From the moment we arrived, even though we were late. We were warmly welcomed and given the keys without any hassle. I enjoyed the quietness and loved everything about the place. The owner was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, making us feel right at home. We will definitely be coming back.

I enjoyed the eateries and shops I went into.

I enjoyed the eateries and shops I went into. I would have changed my plans had I known in advance that Parys pretty much shuts down by 3 on a Sunday, until Tuesday. I found the town to be quite clean. It would have been good to have been able to access a comprehensive list of shops and food offerings (and closing times) in advance (my internet searches didn't provide that info). It is easy to navigate the town. Of course, the potholed road into the town is awful, but sadly, we're so accustomed to them in SA, that it's not surprising - albeit they are so very dangerous. I cancelled a previous trip due to the risk of driving such roads in heavy rains (or actually any rain!)

Harrismith is an outstanding base for exploring this...

Harrismith is an outstanding base for exploring this beautiful corner of South Africa. Rather than constantly packing and unpacking as you move from place to place, you can settle in comfortably and enjoy a series of wonderful day trips to some of the Free State’s most spectacular destinations. The town sits in a perfect location, with easy access to the magnificent Drakensberg mountains, charming Free State towns, and the breathtaking landscapes of the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. One day you can be driving through Golden Gate’s dramatic sandstone cliffs and open grasslands, and the next you can be exploring the quiet rural towns that give the Free State its unique character and charm. What I particularly appreciated was being able to return each evening to the same comfortable accommodation rather than living out of a suitcase. After a day spent enjoying mountain scenery, scenic drives, hiking trails, or discovering local cafés and shops, it was a pleasure to come back, relax, and plan the next day’s adventure. The roads in the area are generally excellent, the scenery is stunning in every direction, and there is a wonderful sense of space and tranquillity that is becoming increasingly rare. Whether your interests are nature, photography, history, road-tripping, or simply experiencing small-town South African life, Harrismith provides an ideal and convenient base from which to explore. For travellers who enjoy slow travel and prefer to experience a region properly rather than rush through it, Harrismith is difficult to beat.

The view of the dam from the property was amazing. The room/apartment had more than what we expected. The shower was nice and strong and the heater in the room made the room nice and toasty. It was great to have DSTV at our disposal. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Fouriesburg is a fairly nice and somewhat typical "platteland" town, due to there being a lots of potholes in the streets and many of the streetlights do not work. A few nice places to eat and the town itself is not as commercialised as nearby Clarens.

Don’t doubt just book and thank me later. Pack your food. There’s no shops nearby. And you don’t wanna Waste time finding a shop. You just wanna savour every moment you can. You can pack Braii food and other uncooked items too. There’s a gas stove, braai and bonfire there too.

The roads needs some work but it is a great area and I am definitely going back for a longer stay next time. enjoyed my short stay there. Loved staying at Pure Clarens at Quillets and enjoyed horse-riding from the guys in front of Xtream adventures, those guys are amazing. big ups to them. We had dinner at Charlies restaurant and the staff were friendly and serviced us well. A delicious and filling breakfast was enjoyed at Castello, the staff there were also amazingly great and welcoming, the road to get there was bad though, Castello can at the very least pitch in on the road works and ensure their guests enjoy a drive to their establishment.
