Host and hostess (they are the owners of the hotel) were very friendly and welcoming. We felt at home. We had lovely, very tasty ostrich steak and roast veggies for dinner and a delicious cooked breakfast. Our overall experience left a very positive feeling about the hotel; old time grandeur!!

Absolutely everything was perfect. A little gem! We ordered a braaipack in advance. It contained so much more than expected. In addition to the meat, there was roosterkoek, jam, salad, pumpkin fritters and more. The rooms and beds were super comfortable. The kitchen had every utensil we needed and fresh drinkwater was supplied. The Swartberg Mountains around us were breathtaking. We loved our stay. It was booked for a stay-over location close to the Cango Caves but we will be back for a longer stay at some stage to explore the area further.

Great location for overnight travel between Joburg and Cape Town. Beautiful venue, perfectly appointed, great care in decor, and rooms have everything you need - if not more. The braai facility was perfect as were the lamb chops, braaibroodjies and salads.

After a long drive from Botswana that's what we needed a comfortable and clean place with all that you need for self catering. Fridge was filled with drinks which came with a price list. Welcomed with a freshly baked ciabatta bread and butter. Comfortable bed and excellent bedding. Will definetly come back to stay. Thank you Alet

What an unforgettable stay! Lemoen Fontein has the most incredible atmosphere — as far as the eye can see there are stones, bushes, and a koppie in the background, and then suddenly you arrive at a beautiful old farmhouse surrounded by a lush garden and big trees. It truly feels like an oasis in the middle of the Karoo. The dogs and cats on the farm made it even more special, and we loved that it is a dog-friendly place. Dinner was absolutely wonderful — real home-cooked farm food served on a large veranda with the most breathtaking view. After dinner, a giraffe came right up to the house to eat leaves. It was so close we could almost touch it! An unbelievable and memorable experience — we have never been that close to a giraffe before. Our room was spotless, comfortable, beautifully furnished, and had a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. The extra-large bed was extremely comfortable. We had an amazing stay and would highly recommend Lemoen Fontein to anyone looking for a peaceful, unique, and truly special Karoo experience.

We had the best surprise arriving at Lord Milner as we did not expect such a beautiful welcoming place with such fantastic gardens and fountains and a river to cross to access a very large beautiful swimming pool. The room was also so charming with large bathtub.

Prince Albert is a lovely small town in the Karoo, not too far off the N1. We saw more wildflowers in this area than when we visited Namaqualand and the West Coast. The people are very friendly and the food was excellent. We will be back again for one of its many festivals.

Great stop-over place to break the long Karoo drive from Cape Town to Gauteng. It is easy to get around the town and the shops are mostly along the Main road through town. Select a overnight accommodation away from the main roads in the quiter suburbs.

A pretty Klein Karoo town.

A pretty Klein Karoo town. There is the sense, however, that most people don't stay too long as it's located right at the foot of the Prince Alfred Pass, which people rush to go over to their destinations. So, Uniondale is a bit overlooked. Getting around is easy, it's tiny so you can walk everywhere.

I enjoyed exploring the town.

I enjoyed exploring the town. I was last in Matjiesfontein over forty years ago for a brief breakfast stop on my drive from Johannesburg to Cape Town. We got to visit the museum of old cars and walk through the dining railway carriage that is part of the museum. Matjiesfontein is a MUST stop for anyone travelling between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

I loved the Karoo nature.

I loved the Karoo nature. The owner welcomed us with delicious homemade bread, butter, and jam, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Firewood, charcoal, and firelighters are also available for purchase on the property. Our kids were excited to see several wild animals, including monkeys, springbok, and other small wildlife. The views were incredible, the air was cool and refreshing, and the use of rainwater and fully off-grid systems made the stay exactly what we were looking for. Free Wi-Fi was available, which was very helpful as there is no cell phone reception in the area.

Very conveniently next to N1 and a good place to stop between cape town and Gauteng. Place is as neat as can be , including the grounds and the units. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. They send you a menu the day before to order food, we ordered the braai packs and salads which was very good, braai on your patio. If you order wood as well, they pack the fire with blitz so you just need to light the fire. Very safe as well.

I loved the town. It was quiet and a true reflection of what we expected. We couldn't visit as many locationd as we wanted due to our scheduling misalignment, but with a lomger stay, we probably would have enjoyed the town more.

What a gorgeous little town!

What a gorgeous little town! One day, when I’m old and quite content to simply sit on a porch and look out at the world, I think Prince Albert might just be the place! There is such a wonderful sense of pride in the town. It is beautifully kept and incredibly clean — even the dustbins, which are decorated and strategically placed all along the main road, somehow add to its charm. The people are friendly, the foodie spots are AMAZING, and the little waterways that channel water through the town to the houses are fascinating to see. They’re also part of the reason Prince Albert stays so wonderfully green throughout the year. You absolutely have to try the sourdough from The Accidental Baker, who sells her wares at the Saturday market. It is worth seeking out! And if you’re active and looking for a proper challenge, do yourself a favour and ride a bike up and over Swartberg Pass — and back again! The scenery is extraordinary; at times you genuinely feel as though you’ve been dropped into the Alps. The Yellow House is an absolute MUST for accommodation and amazing food. Prince Albert completely charmed us and is most certainly a place worth visiting!

Uniondale was the centre point of our journey distance wise - so convenient . Also we had not been there before so it made an interesting stop over. Scenery was stunning and the road excellent. Hotel built in 1832 (I understand). Uniondale is about 14 kms off main road and entry and exit are through two mountain passes which were most attractive.
