What a place! I could honestly go on forever about how amazing Madikwe Hills Private Game Lodge is! We were return travelers and had another truly incredible stay. From stunningly beautiful rooms, wonderful and very friendly staff, absolutely amazing wildlife and delicious food- nothing is short of perfect. We just wish we stayed longer! We will definitely be back!

Everything was perfect. There are no words to describe the wonderful experience we had.
The staff, accommodation food and amazing game drive and ranger Patrick were perfect!!!
We will most certainly visit Tau again.

It was such a peaceful 2-night stay. The game drives were amazing with great sightings.
The Lodge was comfortable, and the food was outstanding 👌
The staff were great and always attentive to our requests.

Madikwe Game Reserve is, without a doubt, my favourite game...
Madikwe Game Reserve is, without a doubt, my favourite game reserve. The breathtaking landscapes are unlike anywhere else, with a beautiful mix of open plains, rocky outcrops, and lush bushveld that make every game drive a feast for the eyes.
The wildlife is simply incredible, and Madikwe never disappoints. Every visit brings unforgettable sightings and unique experiences, making each trip feel as special as the first. Whether it's the Big Five, endangered wild dogs, or the abundance of birdlife, there is always something amazing to see.
What keeps me coming back is the consistency of the experience. Madikwe combines spectacular scenery, exceptional wildlife, and a true sense of wilderness that is hard to match. It is a place that captures your heart, and I can't wait to return again and again.

Not a big town but since I was going to the villages I enjoyed a lot of open land driving and walking. The district is very big though. Although the name is fancy is not that upmarket town. Is a very welcoming town where everyone just fit in. I like the mixture of town and village setup.

Difficult and bumpy road to get there when you cannot locate...
Difficult and bumpy road to get there when you cannot locate the proper route to Madikwe River lodge but the magic unravels as soon as you get close : the animals, the vegetation and one lonely but warm lady at the post who welcomes you to adventure!
Blissfully peaceful, Matildah gazing at you while the other impalas peer from the bushes, one cheeky monkey sitting on the roof while the invisible chirping and singing lull you to quietude, right next to the river.
The lady at the reception readily informed the Chef about my meal preferences and I was served fish, veggies and rice for dinner.
The morning safari was conducted by a guide who read the tracks in Nature and drove us to a cheetah, a napping lion, a rising rhino, munching wildebeests and 3 black rhinos not happy at visitors for disturbing their early morn routine ;), and another napping lion! We looked fondly at the baby elephant and had to be careful when a big male elephant "in mas" came our way.
It was one beautiful experience.

Zeerust used to be a town you just travel through to get to our destination. Since the new mall Autumn Leaf and a few other new establishments we have found the town more inviting. There is actually more to Zeerust than the main road and grabbing a bite to eat at the wimpy.

This reserve only allows visitors that stay in one of the lodges so their are no day tours. The guides all work together so they give eachother locations of animals they’ve spotted but than they go in turns to the animal so they don’t get overwhelmed by a traffic jam of tourists.

Because I had not pre-booked supper i eventually went to the Mall and had a very nice meal at their Spurs Restaurant. The acoustic of the restaurant is terrible they must do something about it and the entrance to the same restaurant is terrible you will miss it and try find it elsewhere Management must do something about this.
