How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Self-service check-in was very convenient and easy to use. Location is excellent. Room was small but well laid out and with all necessary amenities so it still felt comfortable

Size of room & privacy

No big issues. One of the bedside lights was broken.
Very easy and comfortable stay at the Ibis. The flavoured water at reception was delicious. The staff were very professional.

No lock on the bathroom door which was a little unusual, but not really a problem. Went to reception a few times when there was no one at the counter, had to wait or find someone to assist.
Hotel was exactly what was needed for a 2 night city escape. Close to trams and 20 minutes walk maximum to anything in the city. Soem really nice food and coffee spots in the same street (overlay coffee and Sara ramen were both great). Room was comfortable, wifi worked well, liked that we could chromecast our own things on the TV. Notably one of the most comfortable beds in a hotel we've ever experienced. More spacious then we were expecting given the room is described as 'compact'.

There was no staff during the checkin time. Only the kiosk for self check-in, so it was a little bit confusing.
The location is very convenient and close to Melbourne Central and Chinatown

I ordered room service for a well done steak. When I got it and cut into it, it was still raw. So I ordered another one and left a note to cook properly. Got a call from the kitchen saying they’ll refund me and replace it but still waiting on the refund

Our only issue was that when we wanted to collect our luggage, there wasn't anyone on the Ibis stand and we didn't realise that we had to speak to the staff member on the Novetel side - who was struggling to keep up with the other people also waiting for help/luggage.
Great location and value for money, love the self check in service. Good hotel shower and the tea and coffee in the room. Although a small room, the lack of privacy didn't bother us as a couple, but maybe something to keep in mind for others. They will hold your luggage for you after you check-out. Walking distance from Melbourne Central metro which was convenient for us as we travelled in/out of Melbourne via V-Line and wanted to be near shopping and restaurants.

Overall was good, was a bit surprised at the sudden jump in price of the valet parking. $80 for an overnight stay is a bit ridiculous when the cost of living is so high.

there was a horrible smell from the drain in bathroom. Had trouble explaining to counter staff until I drew a diagram. Was fixed before I came back. Hot water in shower was very variable, last day had a cold shower

I printed two room keys using the self service check in at the beginning of our stay. My partner and I carried both keys with us until the third night when I left my key in the room while we went out and he took his with him. His key hadn't been working after the first night so I had to keep unlocking the room with my key. This became a problem when we came back on the third night of our stay and couldn't get into our room because his key still wasn't working. We went to reception and the friendly staff member gave us a new key, however that one didn't work either. We had to go back down and it was said that we might have locked ourselves out of our room, but we still had a key so I don't see how this would be possible. The staff member was very helpful though and took us up to the room and let us in himself, which we were very grateful for. The staff were nothing but polite and hospitable, but I suggest allowing both keys to work even if one is in the room.
I liked how central the hotel was to everything, it made getting around very simple and efficient. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful too.

The drain in the bathroom had an odd smell when we arrived but once the bath mat was down, it seemed to disappear. That was the only thing we found thar we didn’t like - everything else was great!
Great location - super close to everything and ideal to explore the Melbourne CBD. All of the staff seemed to be super accommodating and welcoming! We were always greeted as we left and as we arrived. The check in process was very easy! My partner used the gym and really enjoyed that too!
