Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOnly one shared bathroom on the floor of 10 rooms. No lift and no tea/coffee facilities. The walls were so thin that you could hear their text messages being received in the next room. Not great when they got up at 5am. Breakfast was adequate but staff were very offhand with lack of communication - perhaps a language issue. We weren't sure how to get a decent coffee so made do with what we were given.
Small hotel in the old town close to bars and restaurants with a view of mountains. Conveniently walkable from the station within around 10 mins. Clean, comfortable room and large bed.

United StatesThe room was extremely small! The floor was not even. The bathroom was shared with the entire floor. No elevator. We could hear people drinking downstairs and some construction early in the morning.
The property was in a very good location.

South AfricaOn my second visit, staff not always very friendly / helpful - especially at breakfast. Also a price discrepancy at check-in with booking.com which they wanted me to settle. Took some explanation and documents to make that go away, but they did agree in the end.
Very functional. Best location with great cafe with outside seating. Very basic, but this is reflected in the pricing. All in all a very good experience.

GermanyThe building does not have stairs inside to the upper levels so keep that in mind if you have heavy luggage. This was not explicitely mentioned in the website. We were helped by one of the staff members to get the luggage up.
The hotel is at walkable distance from the railway station, however a little difficult to locate since the entrance was inside an alleyway and google is not very informative. Room was small, but okay, Bathroom was also small, but clean. Essentially a basic stay. The retaurant seemed rather popular in the region since it was full on the night we were there. We too had dinner there and it was good. Breakfast was regular, not a lot of options, but what was available was fresh

BelgiumThe hotel has 4 floors but no elevator. This should be mentioned because it can be difficult to reach the upper floors with heavy luggage, and going up and down every time you go out is a bit bothersome
The location is nice, in the quiet Old Center, and is pedestrian-only. The personnel is really nice and making sure everything is OK, and the breakfast was good.

NamibiaVery noisy, the hotel itself as well as surroundings. Very basic. As the rooms are above tge restaurant, the smell of food is constant. No elevator, so be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs.
The area is cosy, with many restaurants.

United KingdomThis is an inn with a restaurant on the ground floor, so there is some late night noise and street lights. The furniture is a bit old and rickety and the curtains could be better. (for example, in the bathroom, the curtain doesn't cover the window from end to end so anyone in the building across the narrow street can see you). It would be appreciated to have an USB charging port as Switzerland has a different plug compared to the surrounding countries, so it might catch tourists off guard. The reception didn't have an adapter.
Central location, easy access to the train station if you're taking Bernina Express. Room and bathroom were clean and warm. Complimentary towels and soaps. Free WiFi and continental breakfast included. Check in and check out were easy and quick. For one night, I can't complain.

United StatesI made an error while booking - accidentally booked for 1 instead of a couple. unfortunately the price was nearly double for 2 people, even though it was the and room. I know by paying for 2 we also accessed museums with the guest card and both had breakfast, but the value was no longer quite right for our budget. my error, but still changed my perspective on relative value.
the breakfast was delicious and the staff were pleasant and helpful. the location and view were outstanding.

United KingdomWe had to drag our luggage up three floors after a long day of travelling. On arrival we had to stand and wait for check-in while the person helping us kept dashing of to help serving food. I would have liked a kettle in the room
Comfortable bed and a fairly quiet night. The staff were happy to provide us with boiling water for our coffee. The shared barhroom was not really a problem as were the only people on the floor.

LatviaA minor thing is that rooms need a refresh of the interior, it is very dated. Since I stayed for only 1 night, this did not bother me too much.
The location is great - in the middle of old town, not far from the central train station. The room is small but enough for 1 person. Everything in the room and the shared bathrooms overall was clean. The staff was great. The breakfast was ok, not much choice, but tasted good.
