Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandThe room in the attic had a sewer stench coming from the bathroom. We suspect it’s a missing trap in the shower drain.

Isle of ManThe hotel, from the road, looks awful. Being next to the railway line means that although there is double glazing you do hear some train noise. Although it was not clear if there were any trains running during the small hours of the night. We should also note that the walls dividing our room from the one next door was very thin and certainly not soundproof.
The breakfast was very good and it was pleasant to be able to sit outside and eat it under the trees. The host was charming and made helpful suggestions for sightseeing in the town. The property was easy to reach when arriving by car, is close to the station and it is a short walk into the old town and about twenty minutes down to the central attractions. The carpark was secured overnight.

ChinaThe younger one at the reception let me carrying my heavy bag for 5 minutes just to explain tour things I don’t care about. And he accidentally doubled the city tax. He’s a bit indifferent towards me. And of course I carried my own luggage to my room by myself. It’s not clean, there are fly and mosquitoes.
Close to the train station. Breakfast included.

AustraliaThe stairs to the upper level rooms are a little precarious and extreme care needs to be taken when carrying your bags up and down, especially if you are an older person. The cheaper rooms are quite small and would be very congested if there were two of you and you were staying for several days.
Great location within easy walking distance to the city centre – restaurants and attractions. Peaceful shady rear courtyard for some space to relax. Some staff speak good english and were very accommodating re leaving my bags from check out for collection later in the day.

AustraliaPutting 2 double beds in room 8 made it uncomfortable., to be classed as a family room is not realistic. The tv was huge but no streaming services were available despite being in the remote. The shower needs a glass screen or curtain. Location poor due to railway noise.
It was an oasis for the area that it was in. Gorgeous outdoor area, delightful breakfast and charming staff.

ItalyPrice is quite expensive for the size of the room. The hotel is so close to the Avignon Train Station, which means, the place is so noise because the trains are passing by. Ps. Neither taxi nor uber exist in the whole city of Avignon.

United KingdomRoom 10 is a tiny double. The toilet and shower/sink are each behind a sliding screen that is hard to move and neither shut properly. The rainshower head is too big for the tiled floor area so water goes everwhere, spilling out into the bedroom. Clearly a known issue as a folded towel was in place on the floor, but this was soaked in a few seconds. Small shower head was broken.
Good location for station. Good breakfast. Nice couryard garden at rear. Pleasant manager.

United KingdomThe photographs on Booking.com are all of the rear of the hotel which does not show the whole picture. The front of the hotel is on a run down street and almost underneath the railway station. Trains and station announcements can be heard in the rooms and garden. There was a festival taking place and the price was increased to an unrealistic level for the standard of the hotel.
The property is very close to the old city wall and within walking distance of the city centre. The staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was good. Nice bathroom with overhead shower. The garden area is nice for al fresco dining.
