How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Because you have to use public parking, if you leave in the morning, you need to wait until later in the afternoon to find a spot nearby. It wasn't really a problem for me, though, because I had planned to do day trips while staying here.
Breakfast was great, and the bed was really comfortable. It would have been nice to have a real chair to work at the desk rather than the stool. Otherwise, I really liked the room. I'm so glad I chose to stay in Espelette during my stay in the French Basque region. The larger places (Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz) really weren't my style, and several of the other small towns I visited (Sare and La Bastide Clairence) were great, but both had fairs/festivals during my stay, which made them extremely crowded. Espelette was perfect!

Access to the hotel by car is not easy. Parking is a couple of streets away, but free.
The breakfast is a real treat. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly.

The rooms are a bit little.
The owner was very kind and flexible. We were supposed to be 2 and we just add our daughter 2 days before the stay. No space available but the owner contacted other hotel to find a solution. At the end, they manage to host all the family. Other point, every thing is like new. Hotel has been refurbished less than 2 years ago. Last thing: very well spotted.

Rooms are relatively small, but good for overnight.
Your will stay in the heart of small village Espellete which is nice. It's nice to stay overnight and spend few hours around local specialties shop. Parking is distanced from hotel 300-400 meters.

no problem with the beautiful hotel. but it is in the middle of the VERY touristy centre. some may love this; I do not.

The gentleman that met us at the front desk was just outstanding! He went the extra distance to make sure we were well accommodated and even brought out glasses in the evening for us to enjoy a bottle of spirits we had purchased in town and opened up an outdoor patio for us too. An added fan to each room was a blessing as it was so hot that week, a thoughtful touch.

The breakfast was very good and the staff opened for breakfast 15 minutes early to allow us to make a transport connection . They also kindly arranged a taxi for us the previous day when we arrived in a nearby village after walking a stage of the GR10 .

On the day of our stay the temperature was 34 degrees, possibly more in the room. There was a fan for use in the room, unfortunately when we returned from our evening meal out (8.30pm) we switched it on but it wouldn’t work. I rang the reception which was permanently engaged and was told the next morning that no one is available from 8pm. We slept on top of the bedding with windows wide open but had a very uncomfortable night. This could have been avoided if someone had been available to sort out the problem with the fan. Also if there was a more serious problem I wonder what would happen.
The location is perfect within each reach of the car park.

Parking was difficult and distant as most of the village was closed to traffic and sadly and disappointingly the hotel restaurant was closed that weekend.
