Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRoom a bit small and tired. Nowhere to put or hang anything in bathroom. Pillows poor but fortunately had our own in car (following two weeks in a gite). But clean and tidy.
Location, handy for Cherbourg ferries but not in Cherbourg. Lots of safe parking and decent restaurant nearby (Le Donjon).

IrelandFabulous to stay in the environment of the castle...dining room in particular is fab. Great continental breakfast. Obviously the rooms aren't modern...but everything is clean. Would recommend no problem. Don't depend on the bar etc being open...no staff in situ in hotel except for to check in and at breakfast. That's fine..as long as you know.b

SpainWe arrived to find the hotel had no food and the restaurant was closed, also the breakfast was overpriced for what was on offer, also the the price we booked via booking.com was not what we finally paid as everything including the breakfast AND taxes was subject to a further 10% VAT, which made the price very expensive, poor Sue was unable to elaborate on my querry of this charge, i am presently investigating as to whether this is possible.
The communication was very good and they did ensure someone was there due to us arriving early. We were met by a super lady named Sue, she did everything in here power to ensure we could find food after our journey, at breakfast she was smiling and happy and it made the stay enjoyable.

United KingdomThe room was smaller than expected, moving around was a little cramped. It was clean and tidy but the decoration did not reflect the outside of the building. Paper cups provided for tea and coffee and in the bathroom. We would have expected china or pottery. The restaurant was shut and we had to pay to park as a fun fair was being set up in the town square outside (not the fault of the hotel at all!).
Beautiful location, very interesting building in the heart of the town, close to the ferry port. Breakfast was good and the staff helpful.

Gluten Free offering VERY VERY poor having notified on booking 4 months ago. Given one very dry GF roll delivered by HAND not even on a plate. Charged for cark parking - when our Booking confirmation stated Free Parking. We will NOT be staying here again.

United KingdomWould have benefitted from a functioning restaurant and bar as restaurants mainly closed on Monday & Tuesday evenings. The savior was the DomJon Hotel across the road which was open fortunately.
Staff were exceptional, friendly and helpful. Hotel room comfy, warm with an ensuite bathroom. Wonderful views of the rest of the chateau ruins and an interesting monument to WW11. Easy ample parking. Easy access to the town's boulangerie's and bars.

United KingdomWe couldn't get UKtv channels. A minor point but annoying. The fridge in our room didn't work either so our fizzy had to be cooled in the sink. We took our dogs. I received an email saying it wasn't a problem for the dogs No mention they were going to charge €6 per dog. Don't mind but advanced notice of charges would have been appreciated. Our main complaint was the restaurant . We are the rare thing of vegetarian in France. We will eat some fish. Our main veggie plate cost €16.50 each for basically some pureed potato, a thin leek, a tomato and some courgettes with mushrooms. It was tasty but €16.50 is well well overpriced. Id recommend if veggie go eat elsewhere. No wonder they gave us an extra bread roll. The desserts almost made up for the shock of the main meal but not quite.
The location in the town is great and I do like some history so the grounds were interesting The room itself was a nice size, well maintained and the bed was comfy. Bath and shower both used and v. satisfactory. The staff were helpful and polite. There were times I struggled with my French - and so did they - but they were patient so we got there. The view from the bedroom over the courtyard was nice - we travelled with our dogs and sometimes you feel like you're in a broom cupboard but here we were in the main part of the hotel - even if we were at the end of a long corridor.

United KingdomVery disappointing that there is no bar or restaurant. There is a brasserie outside the entrance but the menu is a bit odd. The other brasserie is more of a drinking place for young people although they did do a good tagliatelle. Completely unacceptable to be a hotel resident and to be charged 12 Euro to park.
We slept. We had breakfast. Interesting place. Otherwise not much to recommend it.
