How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The hosts were very welcoming. Had fantastic suggestions of where to visit to help us enjoy our stay more. We felt really welcome. The hotel was perfectly placed to enjoy Swanage.

Ensuite bathroom a little small - not a problem for us, but might have been for some.
Very friendly helpful host - lovely welcome, even from the dogs (she checked with us before letting them out!). Really well cooked breakfast, to order.

This was in a perfect location to access the centre of town. Having parking was a bonus. Our hosts were extremely friendly and knowlegable about the area with recommendations of where to eat.

Everything was good.
The owner was friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was lavish and freshly prepared. The decor was impressive and the rooms provided everything needed for comfort. Location was next to the town and the beach.

My departure was delayed by 1.25 hours because another resident of the hotel (working in Swanage)had parked behind me and I couldn't move my car. I had a long drive ahead (to Rugby) and wanted to get going. Claire was very helpful though, going into town to find where the chap worked. He came back with her, and did apologise. I was very grateful to Claire for taking the trouble to go and look for him. Just a lack of forward thinking. Otherwise I had a restful stay.

There was nothing i didn't like.
Stayed for 3 nights, was made really welcome by claire. Good selection of breakfasts , which you had the choice of having in your room or in the dining area. Beach, shops, restraurants and pubs are all walking distance and train station and coach station on door step. Would highly recommend and will definitely be staying again.

Great location in a cute little town and within 5 min walk of several places to eat. The rooms were clean and had such pretty decor. It felt so quaint and comfortable. The price for staying was a good deal, and they offered a really great breakfast, which was really large. Each item is much bigger than we expected. The owners were really accommodating and sweet. We had a really great stay, and will definitely be looking to come back again in the future.

Nothing. At first we thought that having a private bathroom downstairs from our room might be an issue, but it really wasn't. It was a cracking shower and we had our own key so no problem at all. We're not breakfast people, but if I was being critical a full English would've been nice, but the Salt Pig down the road did a wonderful sausage butty so that set us up for the day.
The location was spot on....close to the town and beach. Such friendly hosts.... Claire even offered us some chicken from the BBQ they were having. We've been travelling around the UK over the past fortnight and this was the most comfortable bed of the lot. We also loved the interior design. Good work.
